From his Village Psychic interview regarding the Dime x Vans XLT
"Was having creative liberty with designing these shoes part of the decision you went to Vans?
That's why I went to Vans, entirely. I was with a huge company before Vans, three times, four times bigger at that time, and I left and took a 50% pay cut. I went to Vans because I wanted to wear the shoes. The other company was having big growth issues, and I knew that they could go the wrong way..."
I can't for the life of me think of who he's talking about...

Dear god. What an abomination. Looks like they could handle re-entry into earth's atmosphere though with minimal damage
-
They don't look much worse than the xlt's people are drooling over again since the re issue. In fact I'd rather be seen wearing those Airwalks.
-
Even tho I brought them up I'd def agree they look like better shoes than the xlts. I know it wouldn't work because it's based off nostalgia but an updated xl2 could of maybe done well with how popular sambas are these days. Anything puffier or more visually "tech" than that is a waste of time.

Oh yes. I hadn't realised that they were basically a samba clone. I think you are onto something though. They are a bit sportier looking and I think there is a demographic for that

they were certainly in line with other designs at the time

that is some ugly ass shoe.
But staying with the XLT – was there a Vans model that was similarly looking, but without the Rowley signature? I remember having the Rowley XLT, but also another Vans that looked similar. But maybe i'm just mixing things up...

I would say there were most likely a bunch of other similar shoes out around that time. That whole foam midsole look was popular for a couple of years.
