Title: I'm wondering if the individuals promoting these bearings as Swiss
Post by: NathanBuck on November 07, 2023, 02:24:29 AM
I was intrigued by the number of people in the set-up thread who use Bones Swiss bearings, so when I came across some Andale Swiss bearings for sale, I decided to buy them, assuming they wouldn't be significantly different since they're also advertised as "Swiss." However, upon closer inspection at home, I noticed a Made in China sticker on the packaging. Now I'm questioning whether I made a foolish assumption thinking they would be made in Switzerland like Bones bearings. Alternatively, I'm wondering if the individuals promoting these bearings as Swiss are being deceptive by labeling Chinese-made bearings as such. Since they were inexpensive, it's not a major issue, but I could have either invested that money in Bones Swiss bearings or stuck with the reliable Chinese reds that I usually go for.

I’ve skated the Andale Swiss, got a few sets of them super cheap maybe 3 or so years ago. They weren’t any better than Reds IMO. Not in the same league as Bones Swiss, for sure.

I almost snagged a set in the past two years because it was $30/set. The description on the shop’s website mentioned, “Designed in Switzerland, Made in China,” so I passed on them.

Check the sales gear thread. Thanksgiving/BF sales are a couple weeks away so you’ll be able to get 25-40% off on Bones Swiss/Swiss 6.

On the skateone website Swiss are only 50 and Swiss6 are only 53. I think they just had a 15 or 20% discount, and maybe they will again for holiday sales.
My oldest set of Swiss 6 are from 2016, and some people on here have had Swiss for nearly 20 years. The best bearings for sure

I had a friend in 1999 that skated bones swiss for two years and wore the metal balls down so small they fell out his bearings.     He only cleaned them with WD-40, so I think that had a lot to do with the metal wearing the metal down...

Why the fuck are they $50 USD but 100 euro here (France) if they are made in Switzerland.

I wouldn’t bank on them being Swiss.

because they go switzerland > usa > france ? even the swiss pay them 80 chf which is way more than us retail price, so they also probably go switzerland in production > usa > switzerland for sale

I guess it's legal in the same way that Nestle can sell "Swiss Miss" hot chocolate which was produced by child slaves in Africa; where "Swiss" is the brand and not explicitly from Switzerland.

But yeah, if you wanna skate Reds or Bronsons, that's fine, but as far as I know, if you want high quality Swiss skateboard bearings, they gotta come from Skate One.

They’re not real Swiss unless they’re from the Bones province. Anything else is just sparkling Chinese

It's all lies. If bones Swiss are actually from Switzerland then they just assembled them there the metal parts come from China. Maybe Russia. Germany at best.

Probably. They still say "Made in Switzerland' but doubtful they're required to use 'assembled' in (with chinese parts).

Bones Swiss, still the best. Joey Bs chinese swiss lol, riiiight. Shit must be selling cause he's getting fat AF.

Would you rather… (bearing edition)
Would you rather: ride Joey “You Ain’t Street” Brezinski’s Andale Swiss or Quantums w/ the baked on Diamond Like Coating?

I think Uncle Joey is hilarious.

Calling them Swiss is just part of the joke.

I bet you can't even find burritos in Switzerland.

Also I believe that the only difference between swiss Bones and reds is the plastic cage and the shields

Full ceramic? I'd expect a full 4-wheel blow-out on the first gap/set.

So all things being equal, the cage is what makes Swiss last for years (decades)? That's a hell of a markup for a retainer =D

Bones Swiss do feel and sound different, even the 6s; I don't know what voodoo they do but it is noticeable.

Raws, for example, do sound different but don't feel particularly faster than anything else (their ceramics do, however).
