I am 34!
-
Actually a good question you have going here. I’m curious now, too.
Are there many other old and jaded skaters that started in the 90’s like me? That pretty much recognize that skating is not serious, and we’re here just for a good time, because, really, who cares? ;D
-
39, started skating in 97. had a few accounts over the years going back to 2007
-
35, been on here in some capacity since I was 20. Kinda crazy.
-
33. Been on here in some way for more than half my life.
Fuck that’s stupid.
-
At least 6, maybe 12!

49 - I started skating in '86. I still get out at least once or twice a week. I've lost my 360 kickflips but I still have Ollie Impossibles. Do your stretches and pick up some form of cycling (gravel/mtb/road) to keep your skate stamina going.
-
33 and never kicked a flip in my life
-
51. Curbs, old man spots, backyard. Need to get back to the park, want to start skating mellow bowls again. Helmet city though, got paranoid of big parks and head injuries within the last few years. just glad to be still rolling around and getting a sweat going
-
Let me put it this way, I am old enough to say "Today, I am ____ years young" with a half smile that gives you the impression I think I am cleaver and this is the first time you've heard that expression.

I'm 38 and gonna be a pro skater

37. First posted here when I was 16 in high school. Quit skateboarding and SLAP more than a few times but of course I always come crawling back.

I’ve been reading far too long and have always been to stupid to figure out how to use this site and still suck at using this website. I’m 32.5

37, skating since 00 with a few gaps in between because of injuries and life.

old fat are SLAP members?
-
35 and have been lurking hard since like 2006. Its the only place that feels like home to me as far as skating is concerned. Alabama doesn't really have much of a scene outside of Birmingham and Faith, so thanks to all the pals over the years for bringing me so much joy and commeradery. 🛹💗

Torto but with the lettuce wrap option.

I’ll be 50 in July and I’m so stoked my hair is finally going grey. Went skating tonight but goddamn is it ever low impact these days.

I’m sorry to hear that. At least you contributed 10.25” popsicle decks to this world. More than I’ll ever accomplish.

been reading SLAP the past few years after I got a job where I stare at a monitor all day. didn't sign up until last year or two

Stats are kind of giving the middle finger. Nice.

Definitely too old when every other thread is about how no one likes Emerica anymore and why none of the kids care about "OuR CuLtUrE" anymore in fucking 2024.

I’m assuming it’s the 50 year olds that always have a hard time posting pictures or embedding YouTube links

In fairness, this site changed some shit with YouTube, before you could just use the share link off the app and it embedded, now you have to use the browser link.

48. First board in 84. Daily obsession by 86. Currently on the road hitting up some bucket list spots.
-
32. started skating at like 9 or 10, probably started lurking SLAP in like 2005ish. More or less quit skating and following skateboarding entirely from roughly 2010 until I got back into it during the pandemic in 2020. Made another account then and been spending way too much time on here since. Get out several times a week during the warmer months, more like once a week during the winter unfortunately. any nyc pals hmu to skate!
-
33 bout to be 34 and can’t believe how fast time moves but also learning tricks I couldn’t do when I was younger while simultaneously being held back by the thought of getting injured and fucking with my job
-
32. First board at 6. Started doing things other than sitting on it at 10. Sprinkle in a 4 year hiatus. Lurked on here for a few years. Account is almost a year old. Still can't operate the site properly. I'm 50 in computer years.

started skating in 1988, never stopped. I'm stubborn that way...

37 and I’ve been posting here since Filipe Mota was swimming around in his dad’s nutsack.

-
37 years old. Started skating in 98 or 99. Quit skating around 2007.
Restarted skating in 2018, landed a kickflip first try first day back, blew my ankle out that summer.
Restarted again in early 2019, didn't land another kickflip until almost a year later because the ankle was that fucked.
Can't see myself ever stopping again.

I hope our resident 50+ age like a fine Ron Allen or Lance Mountain, and not like a Bill Danforth or Duane Peters.

Basically there's two types of old skaters, if you're kinda old you think of Shorty's when you hear the name Steve Olson, and when you're really old you think of the OG Steve Olson.
The latter is a separate age category (65 plus or so) not even included and I don't think they would come here.

Kinda old is fine with me

41.5. Been skating since 94. Never quit although there was a year where I was partying super hard and didn’t skate much but I never completely quit. Still get out 3-4 times a week for a solid hr at least. Finally joined this godforsaken hellhole around 2011/12. I love it

Holy shit, learning to kickflip at 40?? There’s no way in hell I would try to actually put effort into learning a flip trick at this age.

I thought for sure most people were in their 50s. I’m in my 40s and I’m nowhere near as closed minded and jaded as who I assume are actually around my age. It’s crazy when people in their 30s and 40s complain like they’re 80.

Wild. I started two years ago at 35 and quickly decided to never learn flip tricks lol. It’s just not worth the wear and tear on my already busted knees. I understand the mechanics behind them, but can’t afford to try them thousands of times 🫨

Im gonna be honest I think emerica isnt appealing, my feet dont like their shoes at all, but their riders are monsters and I loved every video they released these past few years. Especially emerica green, that video blew my tiny mind appart.

I’ve got a good crew of people from late 30s to 50 and honestly IRL no one is a hater. Everyone is pretty positive about what’s happening in skating right now. People are mostly stoked that even our dumb dork tricks are considered acceptable. No one is dumping on && (even if personally think he’s goofy). People have nostalgia- I do too.. for my young body. Skateboarding on the other hand is better than it’s even been.
If you’ve got good people to skate with, fun spots, decent weather and you’re not injured- wtf do you have to be bitter about? You’re living the dream.

Thank you. Us oldies have a soft spot for Emerica nostalgia, and I was curious what someone your age would think about the shoes/brand.
Sole tech is the overall brand that owns éS, Etnies, and Emerica. one theory is that sales from èS and Etnies keep Emerica afloat.
-
To all old folks out there:
Watch a video you've seen very often years ago (Video Days, Questionable, Mouse, Menikmati, PJLWHL, Sorry etc.) and then try to remember the next trick while watching.
You will probably be amazed how many tricks are stored in your brain.

I got into skateboarding late and stuch with dunks for a while and now i pretty much only skate in pop company jack purcells, I was too late for ajy of those brands. Skateshops in my city actually stopped selling all three brands because no one bought them, and i dont think ive ever seen a single skater wear any of those… bummer the brand seems to be going under according to a couple of threads, their riders are amazing

I'm 34 and I've been posting here on one account or another (including a few satirical "fake accounts") since I was 15 or 16. Can confirm that we've seen some dark moments.

Currently 26
skating since 2012 and the last 3 years I've learned more than ever (transitionwise), partially because im riding with the young bucks that pushes the session furtherer and sketchyer every time. In those 3y, the first was mainly mastering carving and 5050s on block, the rest i was able to learn consistently bs airs, bs ollies, fs air, and some variations of roll outs.
I don't want to miss those and im still in the learing window of life (can get folded sometimes without dying a full week too)
