longtime lurker, first time poster. I've made a website which I think some people might find useful. It's called Union Discount, and i was curious to see what people think and if they'd find it useful. the story is:
In 2017, I realized Grey Skate Mag has a list of stockists on it’s website. I was broke and wanted to buy clothes, and the shops which had Grey were generally good, skater-owned stores, so I realized I could look through the sale section of each shop, and get a bunch of good shit for cheap.
In 2023, I realized I could pull all those together into one place, so you can filter and browse through everything at once. Everything on here is on sale from 120+ skate shops which I chose myself by lurking on google maps.
You don’t buy anything on UD, it takes you through to the website of the shop itself, 100% of the money goes to the store, and always will.
I’ve got friends who own stores and I’ve read articles about how hard it can be, and after the 2020 boom in skating, loads of stores are stuck with a ton of stock (in europe at least, the article was in SOLO mag).
Maybe one day I’ll run ads on here so it pays for itself, but first and foremost I want it to be something good for skating.
I’m aware of Parade World, but i don’t want to make another Parade World. This will stay as an aggregator, always going through to the store, a collection of links. I don’t want the hassle of getting into the business side of things with the stores, I don’t want that kind of relationship.
You get cheap stuff, you support a real skate store, and they get more sales/get rid of stock they might be struggling to sell.
I wanna hear what you think, especially if you own a store whether it's on there or not, or know what's up in the industry!!
it's https://uniondiscount.net

this is cool, will you be able to add any sort of sort by price feature or something like that?
-
Thank you! :) yeah, a search feature and a sorting by price filter are both next up — you can follow the insta here @union.discount https://www.instagram.com/union.discount/ 8)

this is sick! great idea man :D

That’s dope! Any chance you will consider making a Canada region? If not, the US one is still pretty dope.

yep, got canada and aus in my sights next, shouldn't be too hard to add! currently i can only support shopify stores too, so im hoping to cover all stores eventually.
Is shipping US -> CA something you generally avoid for taxes etc? I'm in the EU and if you order from the UK it can get taxed extra during shipping which sucks :-[
-
This is awesome, thanks so much
-
This is basically just ParadeWorld but without taking a 20% cut from the shops, right?
Edit: sorry, that wasn't meant to be dismissive. I think this is a really cool thing, and I see now it's limited to sale items.

yeah you usually get dinged with brokerage or despite paying shipping at point of purchase, you might have to pay some cash on delivery.
-

damn, is that how much they were taking? i'm curious to understand more how they worked. but yeah, basically i dont wanna take a penny from skateshops who are all generally struggling. and it only displays sale items, not all items.
Weirdly, parade world shut down just as I started making this about a year ago. On my last visit to it when it still worked it all seemed to be hypebeast/fashiony shit on the homepage and nothing skate related. i heard they also hid the name of the skateshop items were on etc. no shade to them but i am definitely not trying to do anything like that ::)

ah fuck yeah similar story then, i'll see if i can get canada added for you ASAP, i find stores by lurking on google maps so if there's any sick online-only stores i wouldn't find plz let me know (or anyone else, anywhere, not just canada)

The Sale Gear Thread already takes my money and now this?!?!?
Truly doing the lords work here my friend, thank you! Have a gnar.
Would it be possible to filter shoe sizes as well? Apparel seems to work well, just need that shoe size filter and the money will be flying out of my account.

Once you've selected 'Shoes' as the category, the size filter switches to shoe sizes :) i think i am gonna revisit that to make it clearer! Also, the automatic size cleaning i do isn't at 100%, so i would recommend taking a look at the sale sections of the stores you visit, and see if you can find your size within there.
and thanks for checking it out! glad it's helpful, super stoked with the response so far :)))))

Would be amazing if it was possible to list by shop, location or coupon code availability.

I don't know what their exact cut was, but every time I received an order placed through PW, there would be a card or a note inside the box from the shop with a code for 15 or 20% of my next order if I went direct, so I assume it was in that range.

This is sick, thanks! Is there anyway to see what shops are on it?

Amazing work.
I guess it must be kinda hard to do that kind of work.
Do you work with the shops to generate the products in real time or do you do it on yourself?

The hardest part was cleaning the data up. One store calls them 'Tees', another calls them 'T-Shirts' etc so I had to standardize everything for categories, sizes and brands. And currently, can only do shopify. Haven't told any of the shops yet (except one my homie owns shout outs to mooseskateshop in bournemouth) but i'm hoping they won't mind—it's basically just free advertising for them. Doesn't use any bandwidth more than having one real human visit their website every hour.
Hoping to build a platform on insta around it so I can promote shops that might be struggling or need extra exposure, so gimme a follow if you can https://www.instagram.com/union.discount/ @union.discount :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Oh hell yeeeeeeeah, I see it now and it's beautiful! Would it be possible to implement a "sort by" feature, that way I can score those sweet sweet deals easier? Or am I overlooking that as well? This is so great though!
Edit - Two other features:
1. The ability to clear only one filter instead of only having the option for "all"
2. The ability to make multiple selections on one filter (i.e., choose multiple sizes at once)

It’s like pointandclick said, sometimes things get held up for a bit at customs and you have to pay duty charges when you pick up the package, or the shipping charges can ruin the discount, but it’s not too bad. It’s just something I avoid if I can, as I am super broke. That said, sometimes it still works out to a good discount overall, even with surcharges. Either way, awesome work!

Dude, this is awesome. Thank you for an amazing effort to you and your team. Let's keep the independent shops alive.
Edit: Just a thought: would it be possible to add a shop name identifier under the product in the browse view? Not vital, but could be helpful.
Also, if I choose e.g. Decks, the Size dropdown still gives me pant size options. Hmm?
-
Kudos man, great job but I'm not sure if I should congratulate you or blame you for my future financial debacle.

A shop filter is coming soon, I'll see how adding the shop name to the product card looks too! And for decks, unfortunately deck sizes don't seem to be stored in the same field as other sizes, so for now you'll need to browse through to find your size. I'll add this to my backlog to see if there's a fix :)

Yeah that's right! Filter for shoes first and then you'll see the sizes will change over to shoe sizes. Stoked you guys are finding it useful, sorting by price should be dropping early next week, and a search bar not long after. Adding Canada ASAP too.

Easy, this was not an accusation as I don't know the details. Very possible a shop site has been hacked. I understood the automatically detected bogus charge came from "boozzzskate", which I don't recognize, but the time connection to purchases I did is pretty obvious.

the closest match by name is 'https://buzzzskateshop.com/' — is it possible you made a genuine purchase which your bank gave as a false positive? either way i'll check it out and see if they post anything on their insta/site, and remove it from UD, glad to hear your bank caught it and thanks for letting me know :)

the closest match by name is 'https://buzzzskateshop.com/' — is it possible you made a genuine purchase which your bank gave as a false positive? either way i'll check it out and see if they post anything on their insta/site, and remove it from UD, glad to hear your bank caught it and thanks for letting me know :)
It could have been a legit purchase attempt actually. However, they're not using the now-mandatory-in-EU strong purchase 2-factor authentication and that probably triggered something. I think I thought the site was broken and left it be, until my parking charges started to bounce...

@b00tyclappa69420 you should but the link to the site in your sig.
@Bongwater Mojito the 2-factor auth. thing only works for French sites for me (I'm in France). Like when I bought some stuff from Last Resort it didn't as for that stuff. For me after I put my card details in etc, I get a text with a code I have to put in then another code which I know, if that makes sense.
