RIP to a legend
-
goddamn.. gone too soon. Guy was only 61....
RIP
We're bumping Big Black at full volume today
-
Holy shit!
-
what a bummer. The list of incredible records with his fingerprints on them are a mile long, both as an engineer and an artist. Huge loss.
-
so sad so young rip
-
brutally sad. what a beautiful guy
-
My favorite personality in music. Hugely bummed on this.
He had a cooking blog for a minute that was very signature Steve Albini. Smart, opinionated, and funny as hell.
Shellac, and his guitar sound in Shellac both slayed.
Song of the Minerals is an all time fave.
RIP Steve.
-
An absolute legend. He honestly had such an insane impact on the world from his own music and of course on the music he recorded/produced. RIP
-
Massive loss. Undisputed GOAT of modern engineering.

CABLES

Such a huge loss

Shellac has been one of the best bands to follow over 30 years. Always some weird gimmick to every show I've seen and no album was anything like the last one, down to the packaging. I'm bummed I've blown off the LA Shows but I was at the Baseball Strike show so fuck it. Steve is on the hero's list.

Well gee since you were trying to be cute by posting some receipts for the shitty things that Steve did or said over the years in an obituary thread, allow me to post Steve's interview from 2022 where he deals directly with all the shitty things he's done and said over the years.
Only GenX dude who has done that. The rest all try to dodge it, fade out or walk that line by going on Fox News to discuss some made-up culture war. If you're metal enough, maybe you're actually in the Oath Keepers.

In the spirit of memorial does anyone have a list of skate parts that are set to tracks Albini performed or engineered?
I saw a part at the skate shop set to Big Black - L Dopa, not sure of the skater/part
-
Just looking through SkateVideoSite, I got the following short list:
The Magic F (91) Tod Swank - R*peman - Song Number One
Land Pirates (02) Donny Barley - Shellac - Copper
Consolidated - Behold (04) Ryan Wilburn - Shellac - Crow
St Losers - Comb (17) Ryan Sublette - Big Black - Kerosene
Here's a compilation that has a mostly forgotten Steve solo track at 1:13:47 where he has the Shellac sound about 2 years before their first release. There's also a J Mascis song on this comp at 13:07 that you will probably recognize if you started skating before 2010 or have done your homework.
