has there ever been any reputable conclusion as to why this man is no longer around?
-
Death.
-
Well yeah, but did he fall down the stairs or what..he's last interview with juice magazine seemed like there was decades more for him and totally positive
-
He is a gost
-
99% sure it was opioids
-
Doesn’t matter.
Died to young - didn’t build enough crazy parks.
it’s a pity.
I blame the U.S fentanyl pest

Who?
Not trying to be a dick, no clue about this guy.

Google his name...it's 2024 why the fuck didn't you do that before posting...
Also RIP, he was a mate of mutual mates...and anyone remember that batshit lady starting crap at parks in his name? Drugs suck.
-

Based on age, where he was from and his line of work this is the most likely answer sadly.
RIP
-
Yeah forget her, anyways his band, parks, and attitude towards life was wicked, I can see why people say drugs...he liked to drink, but I was just wondering if anyone knew without speculation, he had such a great thing going with family, career, skating ect... Guess its been on my mind because I'd hate for the real cause to be drugs, story's like his that end in such a way make me take a look at myself cuz I ain't perfect either, Monk was/is a giant inspiration to commit yourself to whatever your dream is..

Because I wanted, hopefully, a more educated answer and insightful one than just a Google find. That's why.

Like just watch the hour long Thrasher doc on Grindline. I've got a tribute zine to him somewhere I'll scan it and upload it next week if I can remember.

Kinda wild to have almost 5k post on a skateboard forum and not know a pivotal figure in the current tsunami of skatepark building.
But I’m from the PNW where Monk and Red are basically held as apostles from the skate gods.
And since we’re talking about it… obligatory Lovetters plug

Can the industry stop "hush-hush"ing that a shit ton of skaters are dying from fentanyl overdoses and actually warn them?
Monk OD'd.
Phelps OD'd.
Grosso OD'd.
Tell people this, that this shit will kill them and their friends that use them.

There was this SF Standard article last year but still the secretive stigma persists https://sfstandard.com/2023/01/23/the-killer-of-a-skateboarding-legend-went-unnamed-for-years-could-deaths-have-been-prevented/

It’s not just in skateboarding. People just don’t love to talk about that stuff. Basically any time the obituary of a younger person doesn’t have a throwaway line about cause of death, it’s drugs or suicide.

Then the cycle continues. Every few months I get to see another "RIP homie" on IG

unfortunately most concrete guys (excluding myself) fall into hard drugs.

There are plenty of other opiod deaths such as dave abair and that guy Kurtis that was on world industries. it's insane to think that so many skaters are doing opiods on the downlow because it's really hush hush.

Tim Pool is over that way, brrrro.

I’m sure that a smart fella like you is aware that it is entirely possible to have strong feelings about both opioid overdoses AND “yell(ing) at a girl” as you so artfully put it.
You a dummy for real, or just playing one online?

Add Van Wastell to that list. With Fentanyl it's hard to know which are actual opioid dependency deaths and which are accidents from laced cocaine. Not to condone cocaine too much but doing a couple lines of bing isn't the same as being hooked on opioids and the two need to be treated differently. Otherwise you create the effect where kids go in not knowing the difference and once they do one, they do them all.
Pretty sure Grosso wasn't a full time addict and died to an accident.

Wouldn't having to play a dummy online make you a dummy for real?

Grosso has gone on record numerous times as saying he was a (recovering) addict.
That recovering part in parenthesis is a lifelong occupation, once you set yourself free of the addiction.
No doubt an accident (MOST overdoses are) but that guy was going to be a recovering addict until his last day, regardless of when that was.
Regrettable that he didn’t live to be Grandpa Grosso & regail us with his wonderful stories for another 30 years, but life isn’t always rad.
Check in on your homies.

Laced cocaine doesn't make sense to me. The high is an upper and not a downer. I don't want to mess with cocaine in the states since I don't want to OD on fentanyl accidently. I read that Kurtis Colamonico died from that from a night out.
