Title: 8" axle on a 8.25" board
Post by: wax poetic on November 06, 2024, 04:36:07 PM
I skated this for a bit and didn't mind it and now I'm back on 8" all but lately have been considering going back to the 8.25"...  Anyone else rock this and or have thoughts on their experiences with this setup?

If I could only have one setup for the rest of my life, would be 8" trucks 8.25" board and 54mm wheels. I like the tippy magic carpet feel much more than having wider trucks. I wear a size 10.5 shoe.
I rode only that from about 2003-2013 and had my "prime" years on it.
Though now since I've made a quiver and happily ride anywhere between 8" and 9" through I try to get my trucks one size below matching.

Love the way it looks more than with the same size trucks.

I ran Indy 139s on 8.125 - 8.25 decks for a while. For me it felt too tippy. Like the setup would flip over a bit too easy and would present my tender ankles to the cruel concrete. But I also only have like 12 flip tricks left. 8.25 trucks on 8.25 decks fit better for my kind of skating and it feels way more stable.

8.25 with 8.5 trucks is the truth.
Magic unlocks.

kind of enjoying it on venture lows with harder bushings, not sure when it comes to other trucks but its a preference thing really

The Boss does it. I think it depends on the height of the trucks. 55mm Indy's and 54 would feel a bit weird to me personally. On 8.38 I was on 8.25 trucks for years and as my wheels got larger it got a bit weird so I went to 5.8 and am happy with the choice.

That was my magic combo for a long time. Probably 96 to about 2006. With 58 or 60mm wheels. Tight 139s and 1/8" risers.

Wasn't until I surrendered to wider trucks that I realized how bad it had been for my skateboarding....

i heard ishod, wade desarmo and lots of pros actually skate the 8 inch thunders on wider decks.

If you are riding bigger wide wheels 56mm and up. It hurts your pinching game on crooks when you ride an 8 truck on a bigger board. With small wheels 52 and below, it is fantastic for flipping and everything else.

I like venture 5.0 lows (7.625) but I've been sizing up to 8 decks and it looks goofy. So now i skate 5.2 low ventures on a 8.1 and 8.25 but with bigger wheels. I see the grind marks for bs and fs crooks getting closer to the middle of the hanger than the toe/heel side of the hanger. But hey, some people can make that work.

i have 8.75" Anti Hero Blue Meanie Shape Board on thunder 148s and it looks and feels way better than it did with the indy 159s.

I’ve rocked it plenty in the past and many others have as well, especially in the times before everyone began making 8.25” axle trucks. Mostly I ride 8.125s with 8” trucks but wouldn’t hesitate to put them on an 8.25 if I ended up with one. Magic carpet is great for flip tricks because it is obviously lighter and it keeps the majority of the weight tucked in so you have more leverage when you flick. One thing I dislike about it is aiming into grinds feels a little more dicey but overall I think it’s worth the trade off for the above reasons

you probably wont notice any difference tbh

I have skated an 8.25 board with 139 indy's and 54mm wheels for about a decade now, works great.

Been doing it for a while now. Even did it with an 8" board and 7.6 indys. Pinch feels good. Can't really tell a difference in flip tricks or anything else.
