Was having a convo with someone today about where Bastien sits on the GOAT ranking, in terms of style, and we watched that Paris contest where he destroyed. I would put him comfortably 20-30, maybe somewhere in the 15 to 20 range.

Lakai has fully entered the GnR 'Chinese Democracy' era. Outside of the Flare logo, there's not really any identifying traits of the brand anymore, and I dunno if Bastien is ready for the role of lead guitar.

Maybe a hot take but this doesn’t really bother me, just because I feel like Bastien is trying to prolong his career by any means. Dude fell off in his prime and clearly doesn’t have a backup plan. He’ll be on this bastardized Lakai for a year, maybe 2 and then his career is done.

I didn't want to include IPATH only because didn't Keeny Reed get the rights and brought it back? That to me feels like he got custody rights of a kid from a shitty mother. Plus he brought back original IPATH riders. All these other 2.0 brands have new ownership and new riders.
Either way, I hope IPATH is successful because they look like they're doing it right.
Edit: Missed the posts saying Creature & Plan B but those are good ones that I'd say definitely worked out. Honestly didn't know creature died originally.

And the original owner of IPATH brought it back and hired Kenny to be the creative director, team manager, etc.

I’ve been supporting AWS2 since the start but they’ve really just let the brand become more irrelevant than when it didn’t exist. They just don’t have IT. Directionless, imageless, just a few guys who don’t skate together doing separate video parts.

As Gordon Ramsey always said “move with the times before the times move you”.. the times had moved Lakai, it was the laughing stock of the skate shop shoe shelf, and everyone knows it!
This is an attempt to keep a dying skate brand alive and honestly, the skating was really good.
Let’s see where this goes..

BUT, they were cool bc Rick and Mike and the rest of the team made them look cool. I remember pining over MJ3s and the Mariano shoe with the Italian flag colors for the logo after Fully Flared dropped. While not outstanding shoes, I loved them bc I was supporting Rick and Mike et al.
Not having a single soul, including the founders of the goddamned company, no matter how lackadaisically they handled it up to this point, makes it no longer the same Lakai I grew up with.
