you're really awsome man. I've had a hard time being motivated to stay in school, last year I signed the papers to quit but I was put into a crisis-situation program..I got myself into some trouble and have been out since last may, but I'm starting my senior year october 1st and hopefully getting out at the end of january. we have short marking periods (5 weeks) so I'll deffinately try and get some stuff for you!

for the past three years i have sucked in school, but this year i have at least a "b" in all of my classes, including my anatomy class in which we receive twice as much work as an a.p class. i have done every homework, every work sheet, taken every quiz/test this year, and for once in my life i am psyched to be in school. do i qualify for this?

you should put an ad in slap or something and get the word out. get a couple other companies to help out so you can get EVERYONE into it. think about how many motherfuckers on this planet read slap and thrasher and such. it would also be one of the most impressive advertising campaigns ever, tricking kids into being smarter and making sure they all have the words "WE RUN THE BAY" on their chests.

first. I'd like to have it so I can possibly see the grade improvements and can varify them thru fax to the school sent to your counselor. I have
a couple major companies that are willing to also directly send stuff. I'm hoping it gets momentum and someone like Greg steps up and becomes the face of the idea once it picks up steam. I just want to help and get it started and be involved. This is kind of like a trial run. I'd like to have it so it helps out skaters but also has something going on directly with schools with low grad rates/grades. I tip my cap to those who make it without educations but I also know that it makes it waay easier if you do have those credentials or what not. Not so much a gamble and it ensures that a higher percentage of kids will be living a life they want to live and deserve to.

I really don't know who my counselor is. I got a letter from the school this weekend telling my parents I made it into the High 5 club (raising your GPA .5), would a scan of that be enough?

Seriously a cool program--giving back is a stand up thing to do Sanch... And prody works perfectly; it's like a product toss for grades. Kids eat that shit up like pigeons on bread crumbs.
I'm a school counselor and work in a poor school/Mexican barrio and unfortunately the kids I work with don't skate. It'd be cool to set something up though if you're game.
Also, would you take quarterly test score improvement instead of grades? Like if a kid falls below the state standard in math or writing in beginning of the year but gets his shit together and meets the standard later in the year? In AZ it's all about test scores; you've got to pass the AIMS test to graduate.

Thanks but the thing is I'm working fulltime and going to school fulltime. I have zero time right now. I'm gonna do this but for now I'd like to gather more backers so it could be some serious shit instead of just effecting a guy here and there. In two months I'll have a little break from school and will really get the ball rolling.

Mags always talk of stories of heads making it without a degree and it can be sending the wrong message. Of course people can make it without a degree but do
they tell you how lucky those heads are and how much of a minority they are in terms of percentages? Do they give you updates on these guys at a later point who might not be living it up anymore? I think this idea is the right thing to do and sends a more appropriate message to the youth. It's going out on a limb for something I believe is the way. A lot of companies are to image conscious to be involved in this and for that they are slaves to money.

The mags show kids a lifestyle of partying, drugs, and drop outs that are rich. I'm happy for those fortunate few but it aint a realistic take on life. Kids are impressionable to the lifestyle that the mags present to them. To the mags it's merely pushing an image for their repution and gain. For kids it's a path. Not all kids but the ones that have to look elsewhere for guidance cause the lack of at home. Anyhow, when I was young I felt my dad didn't push me hard enough to do what I had to do. So now I came up with a way where I could be in a kids ear but also offer an incentive for following thru. I'm very much over skating and all the fake bullshit that follows but before I say fuck yall haters for one last time I'd like to use whatever name recognition I have left to do something cool. There's huge companies backing this but some want to stay discreet cause they're scared of what this could do to their rep. Fucking regular if you asked me.

Strange to me that big companies who back you yet want to stay discrete. You mean maintain street cred or someshit? So they'll sell their shit in Zumies but are embarrassed to kid shit down to kids who make some decent choices in life? Whatever.
Anyway, keep me in mind when you're ready to set this thing off. I'm happy to help you by calling school counselors, writing letters, whatever. Can also help you weed out the bullshitters if that's a concern.

i had to withdrawl from highschool with 29 credits, one shy of graduating. they said if i wanted to come back for another semester id have to take 3 other classes with the one i needed and pass 3 out of 4 of them. needless to say i dropped out and did that last credit through the government. point of the story : i want a free t-shirt

Trying to figure a way to make it scam proof. I'd like to just send it to the school but they'd just try to control it and it wouldn't seem fair cause of all the other students. I was thinking
of getting the confirmation from the school and also confirm the address. Thing is, I think that's against school policy to do that. But maybe I can tell them the address and they can either say that's it or it's not it. Any ideas? I really want this to work and will give this a lot more attention in 2 months after the semester is over.

Yeah confidentiality laws can get dicey. We can't give out names, addresses, grades, etc. unless it's to a legal guardian. Unless there's a release of information signed by a parent or guardian. Maybe I could help you come up with a form where the parents read and sign a release at the top of the page, the counselor fills out the form on the bottom with grades or whatever marked improvement, and the counselor faxes the form right to you with the school's coversheet. Then once you get the form you could call the counselor and verify.
Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through but once you had the form it'd be easy, and pretty scam proof.
And sending the box to the school might not be a bad idea, and if it's addressed to a kid the school can't dick with it. And who cares if other kids aren't included, not all kids get scholarships who apply.

I know some companies don't want to mess with certain companies cause of image and what not but this isn't about business, this is about giving back and doing something positive for once. I'm really hoping Greg Carroll can
get involved in this somehow. He's a good leader and can be a leader that can push this in the right direction with his connections and heart. I have heart but am no leader
in this kind of thing. Heck, I'm a leader in class and one day I'll be one in work but I'll never be the savy dude that can use my words well like a lot people. And if I haven't gotten back to you I got your info and will when it's rolling.

I'm at a conference this weekend but when I get back I'll work on a form and bounce it off my principal to make sure all the bases are covered. You should come up with an organizational name and letterhead though so the form seems more legit.
Once we've got the form I'm happy to help logistically by calling/emailing forms to school counselors and doing follow-up. Then giving you the green light to send out the promo.

No but that's a good idea. Jaime seems like he has a kind heart. I'll ask him. I got a box from him and his Zero tee had a label on it stating that it gives money to help endangered species for every tee sold. The tee had a cool looking wolf on it. So I'd think he'd be down for that maybe. I wouldn't care if he or anyone else wanted to stay in the shadows either. The importance to me is to give a kid a variety of products. If he don't like Magik he can dig into the black box stuff or whatever else we're offering. Magik may not be enough of an incentive for a kid. I know this is a stretch but I'd like to get Diamond involved simply cause those tees mean alot to kids and if it makes that much more motivation possible than I'm with that. Damn Henry, at least your heart was in the right place and props for that. Needless to say I'm sure there are a whole lot of people out there who wanted you to succeed. If there's still any way of buying a shirt or anything then let me know - and if there is anything I can do to help (business-wise) before its too late give me a pm or something. It is hard starting any new company - losses for the first while until it takes off and that's hard for someone to sustain unless they have the funds to pay their way and give them time to devote 100% to the business. Fuck the industry, it's not about friendshiop or collaboration any more, it's mainly about big corporations and the almighty $ return - there aren't many out there in a position to help the core smaller companies come up because it's against the bigger corporations interests and individuals who could help aften don't have the power to influence in the way they might like to.

Loser status is a bit rough--his heart was in the right place. No love lost here.
But what I don't get is how he went from reppin' it out hard one day, saying basically the packages are in the mail, to basically pulling the plug the next. Didn't he get the feeling it wasn't coming together enough to maybe tell everyone it was on hold? I guess next time it'd be better to get backers all lined up, fill the garage with prody, and have postage on hand before collecting applicants.
Whatever though, it was a noble thing to vision. If any other industry heads want to set something similar up I've got the forms ready to go and am happy to background check candidates by contacting school counselors.

Going from a C to a B+ is what I'm looking for. The longer you can uphold those grades the more shit ya get. I'll work on some new sponsorships before the weekend so get me those email addys.

Something else you might consider is hooking up packages in line with the improvement the kid makes. Like a C to a B might warrent some stickers or a T. But Ds and Fs to Bs and Cs would get some serious loot. A bunch of Cs to As and Bs would also warrent something proper.
You've got a seriously good idea with this one Sanch, I think it'll fly if you stay with it. The key is getting the right industry folks behind it so you don't get burned out scrounging for promo. Speaking of which, is Blackbox on board? Another industry head who's pretty generous, even though he takes a lot of heat on here, is Mike V. He always hooked me up with decks/wheels no questions asked when I put together special events.

today but after I'll make it a mish to contact some heads. Might run with just a few heads and get more companies involved.
And to anybody thinking this is some publicity stunt or something(I've been reading posts) please realize if I just make a couple calls my wife will think I put more effort into giving tees away than selling them. Magik will most likely go out of business while this is going on but there's still tees and I could at least keep it going till I run out of them and if it's going than they'll be plenty of more from other companies.

Would it be helpful to do the slips via fax rather than the post office? School counselors should be willing to fax those slips in for kids since they're only one page. And like I said before I'm happy to have slips faxed to me at work and check up to make sure things are legit. Whatever though, if I can help let me know. I'm down for the cause and know how the education game is played.

No burden at all, I'm happy to help out. I've got enough flexibility in my work day to take care of it from the office.
I'm out of my office until Monday (I'm actually on my way up to Oakland to visit my little brother) but will PM you my fax number then. It's actually the fax number for the school where I work. If kids fax me the completed apps I can make sure they're legit and give you their address and the green light to ship.

i was skeptical about the email because your name had changed and shit and i didn't want it to be another fake account and then end up just getting dissapointed. my bad about the delay, having some rough times on my end too. i'm at school right now, but my email is blocked so i'll have to print it out tonight and get my counselor to sign.

The intentions are to be an influence to students who don't get great grades. What's the point of giving a kid tees if his mom gives him what he wants anyways? Sometimes certain things mean more to others.

"At-risk" means at-risk for dropping out. A kid is usually flagged "at-risk" because of low-achievement, poor attendance, or poverty. On the form Sanch is using your counselor has to do a little write up on how an "at-risk" kid has made significant progress towards graduation. Counselors should be looking at improvement in grades, attendance, and test scores.
I know this rules out a lot of kids who have their shit together already but it seems to me the purpose of this whole deal is to jump start kids who aren't looking so hot as far as graduation goes.
I know it sucks to hear but you guys who have education figured out will be rewarded above and beyond a box of promo in the long run. You've just got to be patient and long-sighted. And the more shit Sanch gives out to kids who are already on the right track, the less he has to give to kids who are in a bad spot.
Don't get salty if you don't get shit. Be stoked on Sanch for trying to do something positive.

Well, I don't get anything I want. I live with my my mom in our grandparents house. She doesnt make money an all, we've been living off of food stamps for the past 4 years. We're not extremely poor, just poor. But like I still make good grades an all. Know what Im saying?

I havent always been an a 4.0 student but after reading that I could get free gear it gave me a little insentive. This past quarter I tried to do good to get some free stuff and I ended up with a pretty good GPA. I'm not sure how to show my report card via fax or e-mail, but if you could e-mail me an application that would be tight
