alright, I've been skating these rictas I bought used for close to two years now, and one of em finally flatspotted. I've decided its time to finally grab some new ones after skating my friend's setup..but could someone clear something up for me? the hardness/softeness factor would affect me in what way? I skate ramps mostly but when I hit the streets the spots are anything but smooth.

Some Bones, either STF 53mm, or some Bones SPF 54mm, they should be good for ramps and the streets, and they're hard to flatspot.
-
No shit, two years is forever... I might go two months on a set before they sound like a flatspot machine gun.
The hardness of the wheels on ramp will pretty much dictate how much you can slide around versus how much grip you have while carving... for street, the harder the wheel usually means the more you can feel every little crack and crevice, but again, you can slide them around a lot easier.
For flatspot avoidance, I like Autobahn and Powell STFs.
-
bones stf all the way.
ihave only flat spotted them once. and that was when i was backside 180 up something and accidentilly back noseblunted the ground, no shit though, the flat spot went away. they could last you for ever. i like to pick up a new set every three months or so though doesnt always happen, but i would like too.
-
remember, I bought em used for $5 bucks..I believe at the time they were bob b 63?mms. 53 or 54 seems alittle small, no? I was looking for atleast 56 and up
-
i usually get a new set every month. I cant stand shitty wheels. nothings feels better than rolling smooth.
-
i've had my current set for 6 months. i hardly skate anymore. i'm such a pile.
-
the bob burnquist rictas are 60mm.
why not get another set.
if i get a month out of wheels i am amazed.
i get wheelbite with 54s, you must weld your trucks together.
-
bones stf all the way.
-
I flatspotted my satoris with in 30 minutes in a sesh at a concrete park. fuck. i need to get those bones stf.
-
Get Fast Life's, there as legit as it gets, been riding the shit out of em since the day they dropped and im not lookin' back, never flatspotted a set and thats usually my only gripe with skateboarding is flatspotting a set of wheels in 15 minutes, fuckin doo doo brown. I used to set a set of wheels up everytime i set a deck up, now i can go every two, try em' there legit, and they just made a 56mm too!
-
I skate hills so my shits flatspot right away usually. I bought a set of 57 mm spitfires a month ago, Skated some hills the first day, went to a park on day 2, hoping for that new wheels on skatepark ground glide, and it felt like I was skating on bricks. Luckily, I can usually work those out pretty quick too. One bad powerslide= flatspots, a couple good powerslides= flatspots gone. I usually get new wheels when my 57's look like fat little chode 48's. I should rotate my wheels, but I don't, so my back right wheel is a few mm smaller than the rest. Its usually a month or 2. I would every week if I could afford it.
Sounds like you need soft wheels. They'll give you grip at the parks, and the rough ground will be more forgiving. Sliding on your wheels will be a little more difficult though, so be careful.
I always get spitfires, because they sell 'em a bit cheaper at the deluxe store. I hear the powell wheel formulas are pretty good too though.
-
my money is sparse so i usually make wheels last 6 to 8 months. no complaints with my momentums
-
all the shit on my set up is old as fuck, wheels probably a year old, trucks probably 3 years or more, deck like 8 months old
-
my wheels turn to octagons after a few days so i am always setting up new wheels or peoples old wheels

my local shop carries them but we never have any in when i need new wheels. i will try them eventually though. everyone that i know that has skated them has liked them or at least thought they were o.k wheels
-
Funny u should mention it, I got new wheels just last month (55mm satoris) and when I was taking off my old ones (hubba) I was kinda shocked at how small they looked… when I got them they were 56s. so I got the measuring tape and found that in the five months or so I’d been skating them they shrunk down to 45mm. needless to say the 55s were an adjustment after that. I’m lazy about changing my wheels though.
-
not 2 years! wow!
-
I've had these spitfire wheels two May's ago, I got em on my birthday, same for the Royal trucks, and ftk bearings
-
I've had 3 sets of Ricta's, all of them flatspotted after a week or so.
I need to try those Bones STF's you're all talking about.
-
satori
-
spitfire and hubba
-
i can only ride big soft wheels now, kind of a bummer not to be able to powerslide but whatever........spitfire has some 57/95a wheels in that DLX catalogue thing but I have no idea where to get them.......those would be perfect..........i have sixty millimeter bones pool wheels but they are probably like fifty seven by now......I rotate them so they stay even.......i miss being able to boardslide ledges.........flatspots bug me so much and i just don't have the money or patience to set up new wheels every two or three days.......so im stuck with the big soft ones
-
I have never had a flatspot in my life and I skate atleast 7 hours a day everyday
-
I got Hoon wheels. They're good so far
-
i usually get a new set every month. I cant stand shitty wheels. nothings feels better than rolling smooth.
I'm with you. New board, new wheels at least once a month.
-
you guys with all the new product are some lucky bastards. I think I'm gonna try out those fast life wheels lance was talking about, they're cheap and according to his word, good.

this was the life.
-
Wheels usually last me like a year.
-

In my estimation, new product is one of the finer perks of being an adult. Along with bad knees and mortgages.
-
I just get blanks, and skate them forever. I'm with you on the years thing.
-
wheels dont usually flatspot for me that much anymore, but they wear down pretty quickly. im on the "new set every two months" program. its working out pretty well for me.
-
Powerslide every session.
Like 3 months.
-
2 or 3 weeks. some of you are nuts
-
1 or 2 months.
-
if im not piled out wheels last me about a week, so about 5 good sessions. if im piled i can ride wheels for two months or so. i hate yellow wheels more than wearing a condom.
-
now that i live in sf it seems like ill be going through a set a week, same thing goes for shoes...
-
the bones bushings are fucking epic. the best bushings ive ever ridden. i highly reccomend them to everyone!
-
I really want to try these damn Bones wheels this whole board is constantly raving about. And those hardcore bushings they make too.
Yeah, they're the best.
-
just got some habitat wheels today. and magical gogo bearings. abec-wee!!
-
I have never done a powerslide in my life and I skate atleast 7 hours a day everyday
Powersliding is fun! You should try it.
-
Can someone explain how the fuck you all flatspot your wheels? I powerslide all the time, and mine never flatspot. I still have the first set of wheels I ever owned set up on a board I use for skating in the rain, and they haven't flatspotted after all these years.. granted they're probably like 15mm's now, but shit what the fuck do you all do like 80 foot bluntslides?
I just don't get it...
edit: come to think of it, I doubt I could make a pair of wheels flatspot if I tried... I've done some mean powerslides and my wheels just turn while i'm sliding so the wear is pretty evenly distributed. Maybed you guys skate some soft peice of shit wheels... I dont even wana look at anything less than 99a personally
-
I get like 2 sets a year.
I don't flatspot wheels, they just get really tiny.
-
I get a new set about...every 2 months or so? Maybe every month and a half. I'll try Fast Life, but for the record, Satori's have never failed me.
-

For me, almost all of my flatspots come from skating concrete tranny (reverts or coming in fucked up, sliding around). Sometimes, and especially with STFs, I can get a little flatspot in the bowl, go skate street for a couple of hours, and then go back to the park and be smooth again.
-
i've had my current set for 6 months. i hardly skate anymore. i'm such a pile.
piling is also overwhelming my desire to skate lately too. something's just more appealing about laying down and watching seinfeld all day than skating. might be the never ending rain.

Uh, anything less than 99a would flatspot LESS. And just to let you in, your wheels dont spin while you are powersliding.
-
thanks for the Fast Life shout outs guys. We tried out a shitload of shapes and compounds till we found the perfect shape and feel. People seem to be really into them.
-
a month, maybe two. i don't flatspot as long as i'm on spits or autobahn, but those moments of stupidity when i bought cheap rictas or golds were painful. the golds literally lasted less than one minute before a sesh-ending flatspot.
i can go longer without a new set when my financial situation is less than favorable, but it just makes getting used to a new set of wheels that much more frustrating. new 53s don't pop like worn-down 49s...
-
i get a new pair of wheels every deck so like every two months mine wear down but I don't pay that much attention
-
dont slide your tricks your wheels should last till the bearings. On that note I always replace mine every month or so, so I dont have to deel with the dirty yellow wheels.
