Make skatespots, or make potential spots skateable, post pics and/or stories/and or recommendations:
Here's my friend's fixing a ledge at this spot all these skaters made in Charlotte. Featuring a bunch of ledges and a rail in the background places inbetween two cinderblocks, polejam, gaps, etc.

Minnesota had a spot like that, but it got torn down. ???
-
my "crew" has something similar in mind, but it'll take more time than what we have now to get it done...
-
Jason Hernandez would be so proud, although his boxes seem more stable
-
in toronto they had/have something like that called the junk yard but it's in the process of being demolished, unfortunately.
-
I forgot to mention it seems fun though!

His transworld bank account is prlly more stable as well.
The point is to make some shit
add to the scene
spread good vibes

O classic foundation / ghetto spots. Homemade ledges always fun, grind soo good.
-
I want to make a ledge with a bank up to it similar to the ones in NYC or Philly, but I don't understand how you get the water to the spot to do the mixing, because my buddy said you need a shitload of water. Anyone know how much water per bag of concrete you need or how you get the water to the spot?

bank to ledges are the funnest spots in skateboarding
EDIT: from my expierence you need about a bucket of water per bag, depending on how smooth you want the concrete to be.
-
Sick! about how long did it take to make those ledges?
-
I would say more than one bucket of water to a bag, maybe one.5 or two
-
I have to get some pictures of it..but i have a perfect spot. me and some of my friends built a mini ramp behind a junk yard. while building all i could think of is like this is some shit you would see in a thrasher magazine. its made out of like a fridge, wood, pcp pipe and other really random stuff we found laying around. its skates really nice tho and has good flo to it
-

Well as you can see in the background, one great thing about the spot is the infinite amount of cinderblocks we have around.
But I didn't make the ledges so I can't give an exact estimate.
ask MEOW.

So what do your friends think about your undying man love for CC?
-
I have always wanted to make some bumps, quarters, banks, mannypads and ledges somewhere (just like in the strongest of the strange)
The only problem is that there's not any empty places covered concrete anywhere around...shit
-
Yeah! that reminds me, fuck next time i'm in charlotte i'm putting in a bump, ya heard me.
So what do your friends think about your undying man love for CC?

so do you just haul a shitload of buckets of water with you when you build the shit?
-
There was a really good granite/marble ledge spot that some dudes in seattle made under a bridge. Haters took a jackhammer to it.
-

Since we had all those cinderblocks, i'm fairly sure it's just a matter of stacking them how you want the box to be, mix the concrete, then concrete the cinderblocks together, put the metal on the edge after that dries, then some concrete on top to help hold on the metal and to smooth out the top

Thanks for answering the question. To answer the original post, I've built many a ledge in my day, only to have every asshole 15 year old in 5 towns come to skate them and get them destroyed in a week.

Austin is notorious for spots like these. we have had six foundations that have had similar ledges in the last 6 years. There is another one in the works as well. the ledge in my avatar is a DIY ledge at one of our ditches that got a face lift in the last year. we also poured a 7 foot vert wall with 2.5 feet of vert in the last year at the same spot. One of the Canadian Element riders back smithed it in a recent podcast. DIY spots are the better than most skateparks in my opinion. If they get torn down, find a new place to do it all over again.
-
the water for the ledge theres a picture of (theres 3 ledges at the spot) came from these very kind folks that live across the street from this foundation, just knocked on their door and they hooked up brooms and buckets of water. this is a wonderful display of that cliched "southern hospitality" you may have heard about.
i don't really get this confusion about how the ledge is stable or skateable, maybe it was some sarcasm i couldn't quite pick up on.
nicks "undying love" for chris cole goes generally accepted with this group of friends, who luckily all have a fairly open mind towards skateboarding and are not brainwashed enough by the slap messageboards to deny that there's anything at all to like about him.
the spots pretty awesome but i'm sure it's only a matter of time before it gets torn down, which is the usual story with homemade spots. nick, next time you're in town you should film a little montage for this... or maybe you got enough footage for one last weekend?
-

They're just cinder blocks stacked on top of each other by the looks of it.

Is there a good ledge spot that's skateable right now? one in the works i could help with? or is that all too secret? I moved here a year ago and haven't really met anyone or searched out decent spots. I usually just go be fat and lazy at house park.

gotcha. nope, theyre all cemented together. its shockingly sturdy considering nobody actually knew what they were doing, just kinda went for it and it turned out to be really fun
-
The art teacher at my school has a mold for pouring concrete benches. Then he has his kids do mosaics on them. When they're done he's gonna pour me one with angle iron on the front edge--I'm stoked. There's a basketball court across the street from my house where I'll put it. There's a pretty hidden spot where at least the bench won't seen from the road. And I'm keeping tight raps on that shit.
-
my friends got a mini and ive fixed some shit at the park because its horribly maintained
-
my friends and I
built a legit mini
cemented a sick wallride
and just made some pole jams
making spots is such an awesome part of skateboarding
-
im thinking about doing something like this soon...or me and my friend will just build a box
-
nice, its good to see people make spots out of empty wasted space.....
some guys made a ledge down a bank under one of the subway tracks in my country.... made from concrete and steel drain covers... it was fun while it lasted....
-
I bondoed a parking block to the top of this bank at this old skatepark from the 70's that no one skates much cause there aren't many obstacles and the ground sucks (I'm not talking about Derby). The block was pretty fun but the I only got to skate it once before the city removed it.
-
a couple friends of mine quick creted a wall that seperated 2 parking lots at a food mart place. definatly one of the most fun spots around here. and big thanks to everyone thats sacrificed a car bumper to make a pole jam. ;D
-

usually about a 1:1 ratio. get the water to the spot can be pretty easily accomlished with some big plastic garbage cans and a pickup. only fill the cans about halfway, though-water is HEAVY. heavier than you think. plus, if you're only building ledges, and you use cinderblocks to build them, you won't need much water or concrete. skaters for public skateparks have a bunch of plans and shit in their forums on DIY shit...

I'm not sure how they did it exactly but it was built by a few of the Grindline guys. A bunch of the parks they did in the area have the same sort of ledges and they seem to hold up pretty well.

I wish I could've skated "The Lot" before it was torn down.
-

unforunately for you the only rule of the spot is that if you didnt help contribute to making it, youre not allowed to complain about it.
-
theres a local spot in chino that these guys, who own this local company called backstabber, built this spot. luckily the guy who built it is brothers with the owner of shop down the street for my house (platform4lyfe). so i got to skate it before it got blown out and people started calling it backstabbers. its extremley difficult to skate, if you can remember daewons part from get fam its that spot where he does that blunt stall 360 shuv out on the barrier thing.
me and my friends made a ledge once. it was a waste of my 40 something dollars. the thing about making your own spots is that it takes out the fun of finding shit.
-

You are the dumbest person here.
-
oh really. skate a perfectly built made to skate ledge, or seeing something on the bus and then finally skating it to see that its rugged as fuck and then attempting to skate that.
you would choose the latter on the account that your favorite part of skating is the smile you beam to your friends immediately when you land a mediocre trick.
-
How about all of the above?
Sometimes it's nice to have a spot you can go to anytime without harrasment.
And it's rewarding experiencing building shit.
All of which take nothing away from the experience of skating street spots.
-
i wasnt talking about skating a street spot. i was talking about finding a new one.
delete yourself and start over.

There are some cool kids on here.

Takes nothing away from what I said. Skating one "kind" of spot, takes nothing away from another.
It's all skating.

so rad making something out of nothing.

the best part of skating imo.
stoked to see people out there doing something instead of going to the same park and standing in line.
