And I hate to say it, but Corey Duffel's definitely in the running, too.

I still call bullshit on that. Didn't Chris Cole only put out New Blood the year he won? I think the real reason that Jerry didn't win is because of that enjoi ad from a few years back making fun of Jake.
Also, MJ's part is enough for 3 or 4. That has to count for something.

I'd like to see Guy win it, but like I said before, this film has been in the making for years. Don't mean he doesn't deserve it though.

I'd be happy if any of these guys win...

Koston, Guy, MJ, Worrest, Busenitz, Hsu,  or Janowski. They all deserve it.

Booze, everything he's done this year has gotten me stoked.

Is there a Canadian version of SOTY as well? If there isn't, SBC should just make it up and give it to Degros. SBC Interview, Concrete Powder Interview, Momemtum, 411, and Underworld parts.. that was all this year wasn't it?

If MJ's part is as epic as everyone is saying i'd say him, but heard some shit that he won it one year then they took it back or something and called him the year after and he refused it???? Heard something along those lines a while ago....anyway Mariano if not MJ, and if neither of them BOBBY WORREST!!!!!!!!  Who else can squeeze lemonade outta fresh lemons and cure AIDS?

Dennis Busenitz, Bobby Worrest, Stefan Janoski

those are the top guys I would say deserve it if we are going by the way its worked in the past and how skater of the year represents the year, one of these guys has done it with the video partst and keeping their name in conversation throughout the year.

If Guys footage had been shown BEFORE late November, I'd obviously think it would be him and his comeback...but it didnt happen that way. Hopefully he can last through 08 and win it then.

Reynolds and Koston are both contenders, but winning twice seems unlikely. Reynolds has had 2 jaw dropping covers and Koston won Tampa in the early part of the year, as well as a cover later on and then the Lakai part.

overall, im going with Busenitz. If not him, itll be a Lakai guy.

BUSENITZ,
I love bobby and stefan, and everyone else listed they are all good contenders, But fuck Busenitz to me is fucking skateboarding. I can never get enough of watching his Real re-mix part, its soo fucking sick, before this year i didnt pay much attention to him  now this year seeing shit i've watched everything hes done and been blown away. The muther fucker makes me wanna skate, and when i skate i wanna skate fast and flowy.

but im sure who ever wins this year deserves it, its been a good year for the core skaters.

its so close between these 3, all equally killing it this year..maybe janoski with the edge cause the 2 parts, tons of coverage as of late and he won best trick at tampa pro..

and i refuse to read any thread regarding the lakai video, so maybe my opinion will change after i see it.

Robert Worrest should win it hands down he has had so much fucking coverage all of which was sick, there might be some good parts in the Lakai video, but I will not support any of the skaters for SOTY until I get to see the video and unless Lakai leaks it online that will be after I vote for SOTY.  Corey Duffel should get some kind of lifetime achievement award for skating the most rollerblading spots and looking like a rollerblader, but doing so not on a pair of Rollerblades.

I am at work rambaling on about my hate for Corey Duffel, my comment was kind of stupid though.  My point was just that most of the spots he skates could be taken straight out of a rollerblading video.  I don't know, his whole approach toward skating is just reminiscent of a rollerblader to me, he just wants to throw himself down rails with no creativity or style.

Yeah MJ photos are pretty rare. On the topic of interviews, the last MJ "interview" I remember, was just random ramblings by him. I remember being super-stoked getting the mag, like, "Yes, Marc Johnson" and being really let down by the article. Sick photos but I actually enjoy reading interviews.

skater of the year should go to a person, that is on the way to be a legend at the end of his career (and had top quality coverage this year). i can see it for mj, koston and guy for sure, busenitz is a little bit among them, but worrest does not fit there yet. his parts were amazing, but he's not ready to get it. it's just my logic behind that whole thing

none, I just know that rollerbladers like to skate rails or big ledges because they also like to run into me at the park after they skate these things and the only spots I ever see rollerbladers at are handrails similiar to the ones Duffel skate (not that I am skating these rails, but they are at a lot of schools that I skate).

This is such a stupid inflammatory comment.  Yes I work in an idoit factory, but it is actually extremely complicated to make idoits, what with genetic engineering and such, so all of the workers are extremely qualified I have done 8 years of undergraduate and graduate work to be able to make idoits.  Actually, Corey Duffel was one of the idiots we made in the factory.  We where contracted by a couple companies who wanted us to make an idoit that would appeal to wannabe punks and skaters with no taste.

I not a hater I just don't like his style I'll admit he is an amazing skater ability wise I have always said that.  I try not to hate on anyone, but Duffel has said some disgusting things in the past concerning gay people and people of color, so I don't really feel bad saying shit about him.  Honestly I think that his style on a skateboard is really offensive and I don't like to watch his skating point blank, plus i don't find his trick selection especially appealing.  However, I appreciate your and other people's view on Duffel and hearing them has kind of made me more open minded towards him as far as wining soty.  I should not have said that he appeals to skaters with no taste, that was lame, but I don't really understand why you are trying to be so combative towards me I never said anything about you and I also don't know why you think I watch so many rollerblading videos, but I would rather watch Busentiz or Worrest than Duffel.

you can say what you like about his hair or his pants or his opinions in interviews or whatever, but if you talk shit on his skating, you just sound like a moron.
he's not really a rail jock, he just skates taller rails than anyone else.  he also skates a lot of other shit.  with a lot of energy/enthusiasm.  i like it.
maybe you should take the rollerskate video out and watch some duffel footy.  or don't.  you're probably a better hater than appreciator anyway..

examples?

Wasn't the thing regarding "colored people" just a mis understanding. or rather one of those things that magazines do to get attention, not caring if they tell the truth or not? I could be wrong though.

Regardless, duffel is good, but a generic skateboarder. Like david reyes, sick kid, but so generic. I guess everyone can't be a Chris Haslam or a Marc Johnson though.

But, I would like to see McCrank win it.

sorry buddy, nothing personal.  i don't even feel like i was being that combative.  if i came across that way, it's probably because you were trying to say duffel is a rollerblader who hasn't discovered rollerblades yet, (you just didn't say it as well) and i thought that was a stupid accusation.  it doesn't make sense to me how you can get bummed on me for hating on you for hating.  i also think it's funny that you seem to know about rollerblading videos...

My point was just that most of the spots he skates could be taken straight out of a rollerblading video.
eh?

anyway, i wouldn't vote him soty either, although his cataclysmic abyss part was fucking stellar!  the thrasher interview was good as well.

what about daewon?

Cole, PROD or MJ. Cole has won every frickin contest and had amazing coverage/footage. PRod is everywhere and stepping it up but not sure if he's down with Phelper. MJ - just watch FF.

i hope P-Rod doesnt win, he would make for the most boring interview ever, he is a walking PR statement if that makes sense. It needs to be someone who isnt that corporate or doesnt have their whole career ahead of them like MJ or Frost, they could actually have some entertaining insight on the industry which is what were really lookin for in an interview right? I dont wanna hear about some funny story about his pet iguana i wanna know why he thinks (insert pro) should never skate again. MJ and Koston can say that shit cuz they cant be banned from the industry like someone like worrest could, MJ and Koston are the industry. I said industry way to many times in that, im startin to sound like brodown

You don't really have to watch rollerblading videos to know that they only skate rails and I didn't mean that the spots he skates are the same as the ones in rollerblading videos (i probably couldn't identify 99 percent of the spots in a Duffel part or a rollerbalding video so I wouldn't even know) I just meant that he skates the same obstacles that rollerbladers skate: big rails(in fact i don't think I have ever seen one rollerblader skate a gap).  Going to the good schools for skating in my area every weekend over the time I have been here I have ran into a few rollerbladers because the only time you can really skate some the schools (without lighting) is on the weekend so people tend to converge on them and they also show up at the skatepark.  You are right though I should like a loser feel though for even knowing anything about rollerblading I am glad we are talking about it instead of actually addressing anything relevant to the topic or my original post.

Maybe it is going to be MJ. They (Thrasher) are claiming an upcoming interview. 3 song Fully Flared part. Also, dodn't they usually have the SOTY party in December? Not the middle of January.
