Title: filmer thread
Post by: MFS on April 03, 2008, 09:56:16 PM
how many people on here are filmers? if so what kit do you run?

p.s fuck skateperception, so you can keep your stupid "go back to skateperception" comment to yourself.

I'm trying to make my way into it.  I had a TRV900 Baby Death that I've sold to save up for a DVX100 setup.  Mainly going with the DVX since I'm going to college next fall for digital filmmaking.

well, i'm new to this business, but i would apreciate ifyou could post some stuff you filmed/edited.  i filmed maybe 20 skateboard tricks over the past 10 years, but had about 10 hours interview and additional footage since december. videography is fun, even if i'm more into taking picture.

I have a VX and a MK1.  I've filmed 3 vids with it and I had to have the heads and mic and viewfinder replaced.  I should be able to make it through one more video with it.

knowing the general population most skateboarders/filmers can be snobs about cameras.
I had an idea about hitting up thrift stores for weird old cameras and making a video with them.
I see so many at the ones around here, from og full size channel 9 ones to decent hi 8/vhs c.

My buddy jake had a vx2100 with a modded mk1 that was so damn wide he'd practically be riding piggyback just to be close enough.
It got jacked last year and he finally bought a brand spankin new 2100 but he had to use his old mk2, i can tell he's struggling to get used to it, hard to gauge how close to be now since he was so used to his old lens.

Maybe somebody here can answer a question I've been reluctant to sign up for Skate Perception to ask.  Do you have to use the death lens that's marketed specifically for a DVX for a DVX, or can you get a VX one on there?  The DVX one is harder to find and more expensive.

I own a fucked up VX2000... I used to film my friends for fun and edit videos. It's pretty fun but I'd much rather be skating.

You can get the mk2 for the vx's and take the bayo off which reveals 72mm threads (I believe). Then it just threads on to the front, but you are probably better off just getting the dvx death for your dvx.

And you don't need an account to just go look.

DVX Fisheye Footy doesn't look good in my opinion. Those blue flares on the Vignetting is so distracting.. I personally love the VX1k Mk1 Setup.

The DVX is the best camera, but not really for skateboard filming. Nothing can beat the Mk1 on the VX1. I just don't like to watch DVX Fisheye stuff. The CA kills it. But maybe it's just me..

well said, I'll admit some of the fish shots look a little too sharp, but nothing beats dvx for long lens shots.

I'm going to school for film though, so skateboarding's not my only priority.  And I know it's not popular with everyone, but I really like the way skating looks in 24p.

Post by: Say Hi on April 05, 2008, 02:03:28 PM
That makes sense. The DVX is the better camera if you're not filming skateboarding. The good thing about living in Europe is that i can achieve the 24p look with my VX better, because of the 25fps PAL framerate.

Well that is kind of obvious, they all just do what is trendy. You get a whole bunch of people together and they will eventually share the same idea of what filming should be. The exact same thing happens here with skating, except for a select few.

actually i see a lot of diversity here on what people like to see as far as certain skaters and tricks.
If someone isn't into a dude then they don't post in the topic unless they hate them.
and in some cases most people will like specific skaters.
generalizing is lame, try and do it less.

Title: Re: filmer thread
Post by: qwertypoiuy on April 06, 2008, 08:28:44 PM
its when you add a part from this other lens to the original raynox so it makes the raynox a lot wider. its a lot wider but not quite as wide as a mark one.
Title: Re: filmer thread
Post by: MFS on April 06, 2008, 11:25:15 PM
you use a sony 0.6x wide angle as a back element to widen the lens. quality suffers a bit but it still better than spending 700-900 on a mk1

i had the widened raynox for a little while, but its just not the same as the mk1. i found a mk1 for 600 and it was worth it.

Hey, sorry for bumping this back, but I was wondering if anyone could help me.

My camera recently died and my real dad let me borrow his Hitachi DVD Camera until I get the money to buy a new one. I've heard nothing but bad reviews about this camera, but figured it would be STUPID to turn down a free camera.

I know you can play the discs back in your computer and/or DVD PLAYER, but the problem is the camera will not finalize the disc. It gets to about 80% and errors every time. Which is something you have to do to play it back. I've researched this problem online plenty and it seems a lot of users of this camera have the same problems, but there is never a straight-forward answer. I even tried using ISOHunter to import the clips. Just wondering if anyone on this site has any experience with this.. Thanks.

You have a valid point there. I see mint ones go for like 600-650 when new ones are 700.
