Well when I try to sign in to my Mail account I type in my password and then it just says do it again and the window just keeps popping up. Please Help Me if that makes sense.
-
By Mac mail, are you talking about your preinstalled Mac mail client, or a .Mac account?
-
I wish I was as smart as you guys, it always says .Mac account because I got the email with the trial of .Mac
-
probably expired.
-
Well shit, how the fuck do you just have email on your god damn computer.
-

-
i payed for a years worth of .mac, which gives you a [email protected] name. as well as other shit, like being able to make a blog from your computer and also having a back up. but i never used any of that shit. my shit expired 2 weeks ago and i was going through the same shit as you. wondering why the hell i couldnt log in when i was typing my shit in correctly. then it came to mind that my shit was expired. go to mail, then go to preferences and then go to Accounts and try and add another account and see if that works.
-
damn i just realized how many times i just said "shit"
-
Well I always get this shit when I try to make a new one.
Trying to log into the .Mac server “mail.mac.com” has failed. Please make sure the username and password are correct. If you continue, you may not be able to receive any email.
And if this makes any difference and Im sure it does but when it shows account type .Mac or POP or Exchange is there a difference? What should I do?
-
If your account is .Mac, leave it as .Mac.... Pop3 and Exchange are different mail protocols.
-
What should I do??????????
Mail was unable to verify the identity of this server, which has a certificate issued to "smtp.mac.com". The error was:
There is no root certificate for this server.
You might be connecting to a computer that is pretending to be "smtp.mac.com", and putting your confidential information at risk. Would you like to continue anyway?
The SMTP server “smtp.mac.com” rejected the password for user “baxter13”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.

Can you log into into your web based .Mac mail account? If you haven't tried, try it and see if it works. If it does work, try opening your mail with your mail program.
-
Yeah, I can't log into my .Mac account. The Mail program is all Ive been using to log in.
-
I've been having the same problem man. so fucking annoying.

Can we start the biggest quote train ever tight now? I think so.
-
I've always used Eudora http://www.eudora.com/ and never had any problems. Most of the businesses I've worked and freelanced for use it too. It handles large size files. I really love it, it's very straight forward and is separate from your Mac mail or browser mail applications.
I think it may cost something for now, or there is a free version but the Mozilla people are perfecting it and it will soon be free.

See if you can login here first.
If you can, try logging in through your mail program again.
-
Yeah, I can log into that but when I try to log into my Mail program it always messes up when it searches for the server and says this.

Here's what you do...
1. Go to the Mail menu, then Preferences. Click on the Accounts tab. Select your account and click the delete account button(a minus sign) at the bottom left hand corner of the Preferences window.
2. Click the add account button to the left of the delete button to set your account back up.
3. When prompted, choose .Mac as account type and fill in the rest of the info that is required.
4. When completed, click the red close window button to save your changes and close the Preferences window, returning you to your Mail viewer window. It helps to quit Mail and relaunch it. That's it. .Mac accounts are actually the easiest to set up, so you should be all set after you complete those steps. Let me know.

^
Definitely try that first.
If it doesn't work, go into your settings and change your SMTP port (smtp.mac.com) from 25 to 587. Port 25 might have been blocked by your internet service provider to stop or reduce spam on its servers.

Have you logged into http://webmail.mac.com (http://webmail.mac.com) with that info successfully?
Not to seem strange, but the send email link below your avatar says your email address is [email protected]
-
Thanks for all the continuing help but..........

Keep trying dude, you'll get it. Make sure you can log into http://webmail.mac.com (http://webmail.mac.com) first successfully and I'll help you from there.
-
It was but then I just started trying new shit so I tried about five different names but this is the last one.
It says I need like a VP name to log into that link and I don't have that to get onto the site.
-
Sorry about that, I fixed the link to take you directly to .Mac mail. Try it again.
-
Maybe you'd have better luck just using your POP account instead of .Mac. All i did was configure my incoming mail server, outgoing mail server, chose a password and that's it. Your provider can tell you what to enter it will be something like mail.earthlink.com and mx.earthlink.com as an example.
-
Yeah, I can but the first thing it says is that my .Mac membership expired.

If your .Mac account membership expired, then the only solution is to pay for/renew your account. If your account expired, what email service do you use on a daily basis?
-
I am using Mail 2.1.1 that came with the computer. Open that and go to preferences and select Add Account. Under Default Email Reader select Mail 2.1.1. Under account type, select POP. Then continue and add your incoming mail server, outoging, etc. Don't click on anything that refers to .Mac.

He was trying to set up a .Mac account and since Apple develops both Mail and .Mac, there is an automatic set-up when using .Mac as the account type. For any other account type(GMail, AOL, Comcast, etc) use POP or IMAP, depending on your account type.
-
Yeah, I know. I was suggesting giving up on the .Mac and just going with the POP set up using the Mail application.
-
He's gone, we've lost him. Baxty don't go do anything irrational now!
-
I guess I'm a little confused as to wether he's trying to create a new account or set up an existing account. It isn't hard to set up an active .Mac account...should take about 2 minutes. I help people do this everyday and I've never had any issues with an active .Mac account with an accurate username and password.

Oh well, we tried...good luck Baxty...
-
I had to eat, I use msn, yahoo, gmail, aol, and I use to use Mail but its not working and I just want to start to use one address.
-
Im trying to just make a new one. Im setting up a POP but what should I type in on the Incoming Mail Server: part.
-
You'll have to get that from your provider. Also ask them which port to use.
-
I don't even know how I would contact them. I switched to the 587 port, I remember something about a 900 port once anyone know about that? Sorry Im not computer savvy.
-
It's probably 25, that seems to be the default port most use. Your provider is who you pay your monthly bill to. If you don't pay the bill you'll have to ask somebody who does.
I'll check back tomorrow.
-
Yeah, it was on 25.
