their other major move in skateboarding is MTVSkate.com. It's gonna be like a Myspace/Facebook/Youtube/Google Maps website where people can have profiles and such but also you can "pinpoint" your skate spots and show them off to other users around the globe and vice versa. Supposedly you're gonna be able to to click on that "pinpoint" and actually see the spot much like Google Maps shows the streets and stuff. They say you're going to be able to zoom so far down that "you can see what's happening right out side your own window". Also on your profile, you can have your "Favorite Spots" and have a picture and location tagged on it. There's gonna be a bunch of other crap you can do on it but that's pretty much the plan for it.
Not sure if anybody else has heard of this...
Any thoughts on this?
Major spot rapes coming in the near future?
-
i feel sick...
-
wow i'm pissed that i live in predominately white suburban neighborhood. everyone from my neighborhood's gonna be on MTVskate all day. thats it i'm telling my parents that we should nose back to new york city. thanks MTV you ruined it.
-
let's mass email mtv to convince them scooters are even hotter right now!!
-
Somebody needs to kill Mtv.
They are trying as hard as they can to ruin skateboarding, and I don't think they will stop until forced.
So then, Mr. Singleton, how exactly is Sheckler good for skating again?
-
for one, this idea will never leave the ground
and two, A tv channel will never ruin skateboarding
-
for one, this idea will never leave the ground
i believe they're launching it around christmas

mtvskate the new skateamerica?
-
... or "icelounge," it may not work longterm, but it may get some shit blown out in the meantime, and the can go fuck themselves for even wanting it to happen.

That's the only funny thing you've ever said.
-
Ugh... Did anybody read the article on the front page of the site that was taken from the issue about the media and skateboarding by Mark Whiteley? That article was the most uninsightful, poorly written pieces of journalism I have ever read in a magazine. It was basically a summary of what everybody else has said about the situation with no thesis or interesting ideas at all. In times when things are changing (often for the worst) the media and journalists should be there to put forth interesting ideas and question what is going on. I appreciate the bloggers, people on this board and the few journalists in skateboarding that have done so, but skateboarding needs a Walter Cronkite right now.
-
Just like icehockey isn't popular anymore, people will also lose interest in skateboarding again at some point. In the meantime I'll just enjoy the fruits of high budget skatevideo productions.
-
ah man, thanks to MTV now i cant go out and skate and enjoy it.
oh wait...yes i can.

I'm not saying that every video with high production value necessarily has got to be good, but it the mere fact that they're there is a good thing. So yes.
Low budget, keeping it real high 8 videos are good too, but you don't need a strong industry behind those.
-
MTV - bandwagon jumpers who just wanna milk the mighty udders of skateboarding.
how many skateboarding associated shows have they had? 4 come to mind easily Jackass, Dirty Sanchez, Rob & Big and Life of Ryan..
it must make them money or they'd be on to the next big thing guess they won't stop till they get burnt by it or skateboarding becomes *gasp* uncool.
-
I could care less about it. I think its better there is more money in skateboarding. More money equals more parks equals more opportunitys for real skateboarders to get noticed you know? MTV will never effect my front side tailslides on a perfect ledge nor will it effect core skate companies. So stop complaining and go skate bro.
-
MTV killed dumb as rocks roommates on camera too and now they move onto skating. WTF is next!?!
-
I don't think it'll make a big difference. Maybe you'll see a few homos at spots, but that will probably be minimal, and I skate a lot of flat anyway. Things like Icelounge and spot maps already exist anyway. The people that really enjoy skateboarding and do good things for the community aren't going to do anything for that site, so it will just be another stupid website for the douchebags to turn to.
-
Let it die, all this is gonna do is clean i out in the long run.
it'll become so cool that it'll have to be uncool again.
This will weed out all the dipshits in it for the money, look at the late 80s how ridicolous it was
and how much of that shit is still around.
Maybe a couple of pros will be smart invest they're money rather than blow it up their nose and kill a girl and throw her in the desert
-
so the sky is still falling....
-
holy fuck
just like hearing dudes cry about how grunge "ruined" metal. no. metal ruined metal.
and if it wasnt good enough to withstand how they would describe grunge as "dumb music" then metal obviously wasnt that good in the first place
mtv cant destroy skateboarding.. quit whining fuckers
-
MTV will never effect my front side tailslides on a perfect ledge
Until they post directions to your perfect ledge, 1000 13 year old kids have their moms drop them off there, somebody notices, and your ledge gets capped.
One way to fuck this thing up would be to go on the site when it launches, and put like a million fake spots in every city, and make it just as hard online to find them as it would in real life.
-
Lets send them to the worst part of town.
-
send them to a sketchy ass neighborhood
-
MTV will send them kids to skate the dish in hunters point with tha homies
-
when the site gets launched, we need to form a slap militia to take it down. ruin it by posting porn or something...well find away to save skateboarding.
-
Im going to say there are some epic legdes in the gas chambers at auschwitz
-
mtv used to play a lotta poison vids
-
MTV Get Off the Air, Part 3
-

-
i regret opening this thread.
-
Finally, skateboarding seems to be getting the legitimacy its strived so long and hard to achieve.
I for one welcome our new hipster douchebag overlords.
-
JASON JESSEE says it best
"i love skateboarding so much i want it to die."
I do too........ that way i can still love it when noone else does.
-

epic fail
-
I enjoy seeing skateboarders get money.
-
skateboarding is a FAD and MTV sees us as a marketing piggy bank. they're gonna take all the money out of the piggy bank and then dump us. get used to it, its way bigger than any of us can do somthing about
-
I don't know man, I think putting fake shit on there would work.
It would be best if you put a bunch of fake locations of real places.
Take SF for example, just post that every pier is pier 7 or something like that, just to fuck with people.
-
or sent them to the projects or some sketchy ass neighborhood like i said
-
i'm just saying, i enjoy spot searching. i think it's a big part of skateboarding, for me at least, going out on a random night with a bunch of homies and just trying to find new shit. some nights you find something, others nights you come up empty handed, but when you do find something that you know nobody's touched, it's fucking great. everyone's different and there's always spots out there to be found, i'm just not down for "hey, we're MTV, we're down for skateboarding because it's so hot right now, post your spots online"
-
Viacom is teaming up with NBC? How does that work?
MTV is the ultimate hire-and-fire operation...and they love to rewrite history--here's some embarassing things they backed in the past:
1. every "hair metal" band that record companies were pushing 2. backstreet/nsync 3. limp bizket
the list goes on and on...
Kids are too lazy to do this shit anyway...
-
remember hardcloud?
-
Theres ALOT more factors involved in killing skateboarding other than MTV.
A year ago it was blank boards, then mail order, now its MTV. Just another brink in the wall at this point.
-
just bring back YO mtv raps instead of this
