Title: Rare tricks you’d like to see more often
Post by: BreakfastSandwich on August 29, 2025, 05:29:51 AM

Here are some tricks I think about that aren’t quite circus level, but are rarely seen.

Tasteful Switch FS smiths- Dan Murphy Mystery vid
Backside Fakie 5.0s- Daewon owns this one
FS 180 fakie FS crook- Snyder in Fulfill the Dream
BS 360 bs noseslide- JB up that euro gap to box

You guys and gals got any that come to mind?

Switch bs smiths are probably my favourite simple / straight grind tricks to see.
Chad TimTim and Matt Keale specifically but always want to see more.

I also really like regular kickflip fs 5050s, and straight switch 5050s (switch ones on rails).

Fakie pop shoves are underrated as hell.

Frontside half cabs into grinds like nosegrind or 5-0 or smiths. Nollie 180s to grinds I think you see more of but still cool. Frontside half cab to nosegrind 180 pop out on a ledge would be sick.

This trick stinks! Backside is a different story.

I’ve been dying on the hill that I miss the simple Kickflip BS Noseslide to regular. Looks good but always overlooked.

Proper angled backside noseblunts on rails. Most people seem to do them flat like a noseslide.

Well done kickflip backside board slide. Kf front board was basically the trick of the 00s and still is super common but a well done kickflip bs board is rarer. Ed Duff’s on HH 16 stands out.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a straight up manual to fs/bs 180 out that was memorable. A high speed manual to bs 180 a serious gap or set could be really cool to see.

Indy fastplants, and regular BS fastplants too now that I think about it. Everyone is just going for bonelesses these days. Proper stretched out creepers could get some more love.

Did I miss a meeting where those and rocket airs were outlawed?

Backside bonelesses where the tail doesn’t drop below the nose

Tailblocks, especially where the front foot is tweaked

Rock and Rolls, Duane style, with the bottom of the foot pressed perpendicular to the edge of the tail

Bs 3s over shit with tweaked grabs

Shifties
Reynolds did some good kickflip ones and they were more common in the 90s,
but they're not often seen.

Pop out of noseslides
Who ever did it apart from Drakes Jones and Welsh ?

For both there's an untapped world of possibilities.

Filipe Mota is really the only head that comes to mind doing them these days--just happens that he's doing them on big rails too. i've always thought they were fun as hell on double-stacked parking blocks myself...

Front 270 to back tail

I saw Nate Sherwood do one of these and I was hyped he had a clip doing something non-pressure flip related. However, if the trick is in Nate Sherwood’s bag, it should probably stay there - with respect to Nate.

Fakie varial flips, kickflip body varial (sex change), salad grinds, street 540s. The first three aren't exactly super rare, but i would like to see more. The last is an unreasonable ask, and would probably have to be street hip 450s rather than true 540s.

I think about nollie v heels into backside ledge tricks constantly.

I’m still waiting for inward heels back t. I tried them tons of times back in the. I don’t think anyone’s ever filmed one before and it’sa legit nbd. Has to be to forward.

I’ve seen hardflip front tail which is basically the opposite of the thing I desired to land in my 20s. Someone needs to do it for me. It’s an inward heels back 5oh but you just twist a little further and get your tail on.

On the topic: flatground grab tricks in lines.

I mean hell, while we’re at it, I’d just love to see more of Casey Rigney and all of his rare tricks. Dude fuckin’ rules!

The guy switch flip backside lip'd a handrail about 20 years ago ffs. Underrated as fuck.

Last trick, but the whole part is worth watching. Especially for the nollie 360.

This part is special! One of my all time favorites and it’s aged so well. Fast, HIGH popped and caught tricks. And to Talking Heads no less, perfect music supervision.

He does some goodies upon rewatch. Really like Nollie FS180 Nosegrinds down Hubbas and the the Nollie FS270 BackLip to Fakie on the table ledge was awesome! Made it look badass.
This part is fucked, I’d never seen that before, or don’t remember the part at all. Didn’t this dude also Nollie Heel nose manny the courthouse, or am I tripping? Either way, dude was a Woodward staple for a while, he was REALLY good, kinda feel like he didn’t get his due. Plasticbenchnerd also has a great part in this video. My bad I’m not even talking about tricks at this point, I’ll fuck off, Rigney was a beast though

Yo Wenning’s switch BS smith in Photo always gets me.
[close]

Great shout, Wenning has a mean one.
There's one I think he did on those white hubbas in Miami that I remember rewinding Alot, can't remember if that's in Photo or his DC part.

Yeah that updside down table nollie 270 slide stood out to me too. He's got a good nollie pop.

A good ole Japan Air like Carroll does 'em, for instance in his "lost" Dog/Pretty Sweet part at 3:58.

https://youtu.be/j8D7XswvV0U?si=n32FnsbweZy43OO8

Would love to see somebody do it in an otherwise tech line, for instance a Japan Air over a school yard hip or off a curb cut

John Shanahan has a good Japan grab. I can’t remember which part it was but he starts a line blasting one from a loading dock ramp or something like that.

On the topic: flatground grab tricks in lines.
Yeah why not. You remember Tony Manfre’s fs half cab tucknee?

Pete Eldridge would occasionally show up at FDR and do big Japan airs over the humps. I thought it was way cooler than his serious footage.

I feel like we don't see enough salad grinds - fs or bs. As well as whatever you would call an overturned fs salad, like a bs 180 fakie bs salad on rails. That trick brought back round to regular stance too. Very rare.

I’m with you. I feel like varial flips are viewed by many as a budget 360 flip.

Same if you compare it to its heel comparison, most will take a varial heel in a line well before a v flip.

Idk, it’d be refreshing to see more clips/photos with these tossed and caught proper.

Is there a stank on this trick that keeps it from being more relevant?

I love v’s. When they start hitting your front foot super hard it’s like uhhhhhhh. I liked Tre flips better when not everyone could do them. Once it became the popping trick I went back to imps as my middle of line flat ground trick. Big spins too. I’ll always appreciate a big spin of any variety over the stock Tre.
Switch tre and switch big flip is a totally different thing tho. Nollie and fakie v are tops too.

I don’t mind a quick snappy flip and a bone out….

A big back 5-0 on a square handrail, I just watched Greco in 2G and that one never gets mentioned as much as all the other tricks on that session. Bring em back.

I'd like to see long fs 180 nosegrind reverts on ledges. Maybe even revert out in the middle like a fs version of what Wieger does.
[close]

Good shout actually. I'd also take switch bs 180s out too.

I feel like we don't see enough salad grinds - fs or bs. As well as whatever you would call an overturned fs salad, like a bs 180 fakie bs salad on rails. That trick brought back round to regular stance too. Very rare.

And Bennett grinds too, even if it's not Matt Bennett I want more of them and more variations.
Franky Villani seems to have the exclusive rights to Bennets these days (which I don’t mind since he’s extremely good at them)

Back 180 to switch 5-0 to switch front shuv out on a ledge. Saw vincent touzery do it and I'm trying to find more of them. This might not even be rare but I don't watch much ledge skating so forgive me

Kento just did a good one recently in the middle of ledge.

Good lord, that was insane. Was waiting for it on that first ledge, which would have been sick in its own right.

Another front shove, 180 ledge trick I always liked was switch front shove to back 5-0, 180 out like Wenning used to do.

Considering a fs 50-50 to nollie bs shuv out is considered an easy trick especially on a normal-sized ledge, it's no wonder one doesn't see it very often. But how about it on some gnarly obstacles like big hubbas or huge drops or steep handrails? Would probably gnar.

Impossibles (especially up banks and pyramid hips)
360 FS Shove-its
Fakie FS Boardslides

I love switch 5050s on handrails. Underrated as a rail trick.

Last big one I remember was Brockman's full heelside lock one on Hollywood 16.

I’ve a hard time imagining that but I definitely want to see one.
Made me think about bs crooks to fakie on ledges which can either be totally ass or a tasteful linking trick in a line. I personally like switch crooks to regular (even though I can’t do them…).
Anyway: bs crooks to fakie on a handrail.

I liked the nollie neutral (suicide?) grind Justin Henry did in hard reset.

Emile’s fakie fs 180 to fs 5-0 fs 180 out was cool too

It's been done a couple times at Skatepark of Tampa. Rodrigo Leal won best trick with it in 2012.

And Aurelian Giraud did a pretty badass one.

Evan Johnson enters the chat.

Also I would like to see more fs half cab to regular crooks like Henry Sanchez in Chomp on this.

Maybe I don't watch enough transition / miniramp footage, but I'm looking to see a fakie front heel into the transition or a bank or miniramp or something. Kinda like Tom Penny's switch frontside flip into a mini ramp. Appreciate it thanks

When I was a kid I took 2 of the Tech Deck 8 stairs and some books and made a mini Hollywood high and would constantly recreate James switch 5050 lol. That clip is so burned into my brain I learned them on flat bars in real life too. Never took one down a rail though that’s bonkers.

spent months trying that and 270 out on my flat bar as a kid after watching a bunch of chris troy videos back in the day. my flat bar wasnt great tho and id always get my truck stuck or just dam near flip the thing on to my head trying to get out. I should buy a new flat bar and learn them finally.
