Title: Slim Skate Shoe Thread
Post by: cant kickflip but can tre on October 09, 2025, 10:59:07 AM
I feel like most skate shoes coming out now are either puffy or got some cushion in them. Figured a thread about slimmer profile skate shoe wouldn't hurt. Anyways, here are a few I can think of off dome:

Vans Authentic/Slip-On, Last Resort VM003, Emerica Romero, Nike Janoski...

Feel free to add on or talk about experiences skating a slim shoe

The globe gillettes are extremely thin. The mesh on the inside of the foot is decently breathable but provides no protection. The sole is a bit soft which feels nice on the board but i think it will wear out quick.

Did nobody clap at your tricks at the skatepark again today?

State Pacificas, Dekline Jaws and Lakai MJs were great cuts

Really have been liking these Globe Surplus shoes. They're thin around the top and sides but the sole is pretty sturdy and the insole is decent.

I've wanted a pair of Gillettes or Surplus to use as a "going out" type shoe.  Im heading to Japan jn a few weeks so Im hoping to find a pair of Gravis instead.

I dig the look of thinner skate shoes, but my old ass body can't skate in them anymore

If my feet could tolerate vulcs, I might never wear anything but Vans old skools in the classic dark blue/light blue colourway - timeless look to that one. I had a pair of black old skools early in the 'Pro Skate' days when the side panels were suede instead of canvas, and they skated great and lasted longer than any other Vans shoe I've ever had. Cons One Stars used to work really well for me back in the Lunarlon insole days. All of the Last Resort vulcs look nice to me as well - can't go wrong with those in a nice colour. I have a pair of all black leather Huf Dylans on ice in my closet for a special occasion (or if my feet miraculously stop hurting one day).

I always liked the Huf Gillette more than the Dylan so I was a little excited when Gillette joined Globe thinking he would make another dressy skate shoe. I guess the closest they have is the loafer and chelsea boot. I wish they would just remake his Huf shoe

So I have medium wide feet. Juuuust under "wide". Whole this thread may not benefit me, I would definitely like to share my experience with shoes that didn't work for me width-wise in the hopes it'll help some of y'all banana-footed peeps.

Blazers. Kinda in between. Felt slim to me, but still okay-ish.

Honestly, most Nike SBs feel on the slim side to me. If I get them in suede they usually flub out enough to be usable, except Janoskis. Fuck Janoskis.

Authentics I've worn a lot because I love the simplicity, but I just can't anymore. Neverending hot spots on my pinky toes, even sizing up or broken in.

I think adidas less the busentiz’s are pretty slim.  I skate TJ’s and my feet are crammed in there pretty good and I have dainty Asian feet…..

Are we talking narrow profile or narrow fit?

A short lived but great slim shoe was the Lakai MJ XLK. Same shoe as the vulc but just slightly more supportive. I think I still have a pair in my closet... might wear them on a night out soon

I'd say the the Busenitz are narrower profile-wise. You have enough space inside them, although they do taper considerably throught the vamp. It's just the style of the shoe (cleat based).

Then again, I'm with you. My feet are pretty narrow. But long. Which kinda skews some thing fit-wise. I guess the shoe lasts translate differently from default sizing to bigger/smaller sizes.

While we're already on the topic, a question for roth, minigreek, skatan, or anyone in shoe design - when you design a shoe, do you design it in a default size? And which size is it? Is it like display sizes for shops (US9/EU42)?

Anybody else think it's dumb that Vans actively produces a Skate version of the Authentic, but not the Era? Thin shoes are the best but the padding saves my heels from blisters and bleeding. WHY IS THERE NO SKATE VERSION??? HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE??? Wasn't the shoe originally invented by Stacey's crew cuz they kept getting blisters from skating...? Vans wyd.

Also I got a pair of authentics in red, no blister. Then I got my next pair in black and they were KILLIN me!! Do they use different materials in different colourways? Took me like 3 months of on / off wearing to get the heel soft enough to be fine.

They did Skate Eras at one point, but seemingly discontinued them recently (you can probably still find some if you hunt online). They put out the Era Stub as part of the recent Dime collab, and the Curren shoe doesn’t look like it’s much different from an era.

People in the Vans thread were speculating that the Era is on ice right now to prepare a hype cycle in advance of its 50th(?) anniversary next year.

Era is one of those shoes that looks good no matter the pant. I'd wear them still if my ankles could take it.

Hmm yeah, I could find an alternative, but I just really really wanna have a consistent setup. I'm sure the people of SLAP understand. Like how long are they gonna produce that Curren shoe? And if the rumours you mention are true, how long is the 50th anniversary shoe gonna be produced? Just let me pay the exact same amount at the exact same place for the exact same shoes, forever!! I thought I could depend on Vans to consistently put out the same stuff year after year hahahahaha

Narrow profile. I'm actually skating Busenitz right now lol and I think they're my favorite shoe

Not the XLK but I had the vulc version you're talking about. Had the burgundy waxed suede ones. I remember they renamed it to 'Daly' after MJ left

Eras were my go to shoe when I didn't know what shoe to get. Simple, minimal, affordable, and like you mentioned, great pant versatility

yes, I've had decent luck with Sheffield and Manchester XLKs in the past, although without the stock insole which is seriously trash. they are getting pretty hard to find at this point.

the "indoor" is an awful shoe, starts falling apart as soon as you put a sheet of griptape in the same room.

I don’t work for Vans, but my guess would be that the Curren shoe probably isn’t sticking around a long time (I don’t think the shoe or the skater are very exciting). But the 50th anniversary thing - they’ll probably push it hard with a million colourways and collabs for a year (like they did with the Half Cab a year or two ago) and then the shoe will stick around with a couple of consistent staple colours and a new one here and there (like the other Skate Classics shoes).

A lot of shops still have Skate Eras in stock right now. If it were my favourite shoe, I’d probably buy a couple pairs online now and dine out on the new ones next year (or find a new favourite then if they don’t end up coming out).

Found some pics. Sorry for them being so small and blurry but I had to deep fry them for the website to accept them as an attachment. Eras & Old Skools look a little more beefy than the Vulc counterparts but I'll be trying both out regardless.

last resort vm001

Been skating vm001 since they came out. The first couple runs had hit and miss quality but these days they are solid. I try other shoes sometimes but keep coming back to them. The suede is nice, the rubber on the sole feels nice, and the leather in the inside of the heel never gives me blisters. Its a perfect simple shoe.
