Dang, what's the beef with Greyson? I don't even skate transition, but I love watching him rip. He brings as much, if not more, character and excitement to skating than others. Something skating needs right now.
Glad the negative Nancys here aren't in charge of the industry, otherwise skate culture would be more stale and boring than it currently is.
Plus, for as much chat there is on Slap about mental health, here's a guy who is open about his battles, and you guys want to shit on him. Lame as fuck.

The oververt-wallie-front blunt on the fence at the A'ala park in Honolulu is honestly worth the price of watching the whole video. So gnarly, and perfectly done. He is super fun to watch skate, I'll take the fried family history if I can see him skate.

100%. And I say this not being a big fan. But his huge ollies and being sketchy and crazy are really fun to see in person and for some of us it beats seeing another perfect flatground tre or "tasteful ledge skating." You don't have to personally vibe with someone to appreciate their skating.

Agreed. I'm assuming most if not all of the hate comes from his general attitude. Similar to an Andy Roy type: 2 beers too loud. I feel like his Epicly Later'd would have been really insightful, and maybe could have won some people over. Too bad it got scrapped. Collapsing both your lungs from alcohol abuse is pretty fuckin' hellride (in a bad way)

This has been a big year for Greyson and I don't mind his captain caveman approach.
I respect that he was able to grow out of the shadow of his family/father and do his own thing. Christian Fletcher was HUGE in the 90s, but he was also a punk rock junkie: fame and drugs is a recipe for trouble. being his kid must've been a weird one to navigate, and coming out stronger and sober, I can dig that.

Definitely not the brightest bulb but a cool character in skating, for sure. He rips. He used to skate around San Diego in his teens with a car full of Mormon brothers and would just blast fs flips (muska style) and nollie-to-bs-tail-stalls on ramps.

I like this comparison. They both stand out from the masses, have uncool board sponsors, seem completely fried, and their abilities likely don't translate as well on video compared to seeing them live and in person. I've seen Erick skate live a couple times and he shreds large transitions so casually. I imagine watching Grayson live would be the opposite: balls to the wall excitement/fear.
The main difference I see is that Erick is fried in a more chill way and can skate anything/everything really well. Grayson looks like a transition skater when he skates street.

How was Erick annoying? Been on hundreds of sessions and he literally just does his own thing and chills (unless you mean when he was early Welcome, young adhd energy). Greyson literally yells on sessions 😂

Referring to Greyson. He mentions it in the video, and Patrick O'dell had said there was a full Epicly Later'd on Greyson that had to be scrapped because some family members weren't pleased about some of the issues they covered (I think it was in his Living Proof interview)

People I know who've spent time with Greyson said he's not a great dude. But I didn't get details. His dad obviously sucks. i was a fan of him in the 80s tho.
Greyson's skating is fucking rad though. I saw him at an event with Chris Russel, and between the two of them I've never seen anyone skate that hard.

He's been consistently hated on for awhile. There's a vocal contingent on Slap that hates dumb party dudes who don't excel at ledge skating.

In a word, yes.
For surfers who care more about competitive surfing (wsl) maybe less so, but in the 90s they were some of the most heavily promoted in mags, etc. and one of the names that even non-surfers knew.

Honestly, not that much anymore, really. They do carry a legacy, but I doubt peeps under 30 really know much about them these days.
No doubt Christian did some groundbreaking stuff back in the day with his airs and stuff, but still, the whole infamous gnarly royal family narrative is a bit old and stale, to be honest.
Nathan Fletcher is in the pantheon on his own merit, regardless of family.

This was a weird documentary - besides showcasing everyone as some pretty fried outcasts, I didn't really get much out of it besides that Greyson had a massive drinking problem, which he got out of. It kept hinting at some past, but it never really went into it besides that his family has legacy in the surfing culture (but that has been told in every headline when the media has been writing about Greyson).
I mean what was the story they wanted to tell in this 10 minute segment? It seemed like a very long trailer for a documentary that would actually dive into their story (which I - a non-surfing Dane - really never cared about, but maybe there's a great story in there).
Greyson looks different on a skateboard than most out there - he's really flying, when he pops - and that should matter in today's skateboarding industry.

My kids call my dad by his first name. He gave them the choice between his first name and granddad and my daughter, who was 2 at the time and the oldest, chose calling him by name. It’s endearing when you hear it.
