This is gonna be good

One of the best. To this day his Fort Miley cover remains one of my favorite Thrasher covers. I like the non cropped shot even more

Iconic photo. Incredible

So hyped for this

In the meantime before this is released

One of the nicest dudes ever during a time when skateboarding was filled with kooks.
-
Last night after seeing this, I found this Whitely tribute piece about Phil Shao on Chromeball, really enjoyed so I figured I'd share

This will surely cleanse the pallet after the SOTY nonsense.
-
Psyched for this.

Cool read. Thank you

Wow, some actual good news on a Monday morning and just what the people need right now...

I’ve never seen the full photo before, so good. I didn’t remember how beautiful color’s were in that.
Damn now I really want a framed print on my wall.
-
I drive past the spot where he passed in a car accident almost every day, i think of him frequently
-
Stoked for this. My first videos were the older Trasher videos. Sponser Me and On the Road. He had a decent amount of footage in these and was one of the first impressionable skaters I ever remember. I remember getting the mag with his RIP a couple few years later and feeling super bummed
-
I always thought he was suppose to be an editor at thrasher, it would have probably been a different magazine.
-
Yeah he was slated for it but the world said no unfortunately. Looking forward to seeing this. Thanks for the heads up @Marv
-
Hoping to see some PALS there tomorrow night.
-
Looking forward to this
-
Anyone been to the premiere?

That is def in the top 5 skate photos of all time.

I went.
Lovely little doc & an overall pretty standard deep dive piece for Thrasher.
I thought they missed a trick by focusing on how incredibly good Phil was instead of delving deeper into what could have been, especially w/ him being groomed to take the reins at Thrasher.
Would def rec for any fan of Phil Shao, or the late 90s era of skating.
A decent effort gathering interviews & archival footage by dude Schmitty; made for a “feel good” look back on a life gone too soon.

Whitely sighting with the Steve Jobs drip

Sorry if someone else has already said this, or if it has been posted elsewhere but is this going online anywhere?
I am pretty keen to see it, as with almost anything from back in that era, I saw little bits and pieces here and there and only later have been able to watch a whole lot more, especially the Thrasher box set dvds and the Think videos, which I was going to post some links but thought best not to right here.

Schmitty posted that Shao's birthday is on the 28th, so prob will be up on Thrasher mag then.
-
Very much looking forward to this.
-
I'm truly excited for this...
-
I am pretty sure I read it comes out on Christmas
-
Not expecting a Thrasher funded documentsry to touch on this but is it not either uncanny or an indicator that, if you consider his unfulfilled destiny, he's among three high profile Thrasher "staff" that lost their lives because of drugs (P-Stone being an exact parallel and yhen Phelps of course)? Did any other big skateboarding publication have similar cases?
-
I am bad with my history with older skaters. I thought he died of a car crash? Was he high on drugs or something?
-
I don't think he was on drugs. If I remember correctly, he was the passenger in a car being driven by a drunk person who crashed the car.
Pretty sad that he was too trusting or not taking the situation seriously enough, and it wasn't his "fault" per se.

yes, he was a passenger. truly tragic. can't wait to watch this.

He was the illest

Both Shao and P-Stone were in the passenger seat in drunk driving accidents but both in contexts where it was fairly obvious that they were fully aware of what was going on.

Ah sick. Just last night I watched an old Thrasher vid which had a fair bit of Shao footage in it, and I wanted to see more. I forgot that this docu was happening so thanks for posting the trailer.

Was great to see and hear a healthy Drehobl in the trailer. :)
-
Have they said when it's dropping. Really excited for this. Prolly gonna make my eye leak.
-
Whoa, this is a must watch and a long time coming. The giant backside 180 at :52 in the trailer has been stuck in my head for decades. Went looking for it to post, couldn't find it and sure enough it was in the trailer. Still got this No Use for a Name song on a playlist.

Just searching youtube and there are a lot of good videos hidden down the list, but one I did come across was the 32 video compilation from Greg Carroll, which should make it a lot easier to see more of him.
First video is the start of the playlist:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3916C1433AFDA6BD
I see I had already watched maybe half of them at some point or other, but it is good that there is a playlist created like this with a lot more all in the one place too.
Really any of the older videos with Phil, Wade, Dan and co were what got me really stoked on skateboarding.
This also has a good list:

That was sick...I love seeing people rip that park.
Doc was amazing one of the best skateboarding documentaries
-
That was beautiful.
Absolutely mind-blowing that he ollied UP the block on the infamous ditch photo.
Best skater ever.
