Anyone else almost never fuck with their set up?
I’m well into my third decade of skating and I’ve ridden the exact same set up for six years now.

Last week I started skating some half cabs for the first time in eight or nine years, I skate well enough in them but damn do they hurt my feet once I take them off, definitely the last pair I’ll ever skate. I got some Grasshoppers for $35 recently as well but I already know I’m going back to LRAB.
Feels great to never fuck with anything after 30 years of bullshit tinkering.
Anyone else do this or are you all just insane thinking that it’s just gotta be that new piece of gear that is right around the corner that is gonna solve all your kickflips woes?

Did the same with my favorite Scram shape(s). Unfortunately I’m down to 3 now. Sure hope they keep Logan’s board around since that’s the next one I’m hoarding.

I'm that way with the Huffer. Not seeing any in any upcoming catalogs (at least through Fall drop 2) so will likely need to stack my hoard even higher (currently have two set up and three in reserve) Good luck.

Indy 149s always for the last 15 years - Standard, Hollow Standard, Forged Hollow, Forged Hollow Standard: any combination of those I run depending on the concave/kick steepness of the deck
Spitfire - Conical/Full, OG Classic, and soon to be Radials. I also have some Classic Fulls I wanna try after the Radials. Usually 53-54mm, but I'm gonna branch out into 55-58 territory on a spare setup for fun to see how I like those
Decks: I like the BBS moderate concave/medium steep kicks with a slightly full nose, and a slightly tapered (but not too tapered) tail. Polar, Black Label, DLX 8.5 (14.38WB shape), Element, Passport, etc.
WB: needs to be 14.38 -14.5 and length is no shorter than 32"
It's the shoe "madness" or curiosity as I called it forever ha! I wanna try & skate ap many copl shoes out, but at this point I know what works to flick in, so it's vanity or masochism to explore other options

Been on 8.125 boards and thunder 147s since about 2009 up until last year. Switched up to 8.25 then.
Still on thunders but 148 and upped 1mm in wheelsize- 52 to 53mm. Stock bushings always.
On formula fours since they first came out.
Alwys end up back on dunks since i first skated them around 2018.
I‘m rather short about 1,70m/ 5‘7“ and one of the few people around still skating a „smaller“ board, where i feel that 8.25 is the widest i‘ll go.
Switched up in boardsize cause 8.1 boards were a hassle to find and if i found one they still weren‘t the 2014 habitat and workshop shapes i dearly miss……

My default is so damn generic, I almost never run it. I like to try different things but I know the above setup works and I can get it anywhere. If I lost all my skate shit and had to start over, that’s what I’d get from the shop.

Old School Vans, and then moved to Sk8-Hi after I broke my leg / ankle in 2019 (high tops help cover up hardware area in ankle from getting shark bite...will never skate in low tops again, despite how much I loved them)
Last year I moved up to a bigger set-up, and that has also remained mostly unchanged.

i've been liking those accel 95s too, i'm on my 6th pair now and got a 7th on ice. i could stick with them forever tbh but not for retail

interesting i love how lrabs look but ironically my feet are hurtin after wearing those more so than lots of other shoes
ive tried lots of different shoes but the one i tend to keep coming back to are cons fastbreaks

DLX 8.5 x 14.38 WB (I think I’m cool with any Roman numeral now… but do still measure the angle on nose and tail, and seem to do better with III and IV)
(previously 8.25 x 14.38wb, but only now trying the 8.5 and it’s amazing and perfect and beautiful)
(The 14.38 is just the sweet spot)

I originally only used Jessup. Tried some black magic, didn't like it. The backing felt like a trash bag and would get all stringy on the edges after skating for a while. Tried mob when it came out, didn't like it. It seemed to lose grip/get dirty and slippery pretty fast. Switched to Jessup ultra when that came out, and used Jessup ultra for years straight. Started skating pepper g5 last year. Pepper is the most durable and easiest to work with tape I've ever used, for sure. Had one sheet of mob and one sheet of Jessup after trying pepper and it confirmed it for me. Never thought I'd be this picky about grip, and it took me a while to try it, but moving towns and the local shop only has pepper or mob, so that's how I got started on pepper. It's good stuff

You have posted way too many setups and musings in the Madness and gear threads for us to believe this is a constant. I know I'm not there.
The sole constant I've got is F4. No point in anything else for me.

Funny you say that, because I guess that could also be the same for me, with all the things I have been trying, but maybe to add to that, the stability of my setups mean that I tweak and modify anything and everything to make them feel the way I like my setups to feel.
I could be on Indy, Thunder, Venture or even a few other trucks, but I would do things to them, or to the board to have them all sit about the same height, all turn about the same amount when I am on the board, change wheelbases by redrilling the truck baseplates or the decks, modify the bushings, cut down kingpins, etc.
Decks always BBS or at the very least "BBS like concave" such as the DLX China boards, usually DLX boards anyway, but not limited to just DLX brands.
Wheels yes always Spitfire wheels, almost all Formula Four, almost all wider worn down wheels I have reshaped to be fat / wider profile but rounder edged closer to the ground, mostly now between 50 and 54 mm but started closer to 54 to 58 mm from new.
I had just been on Indy standards for a good while, usually on the 8.38 or 8.5 decks, everything else pretty much the same, still could I guess, but having a set of T-II opened my eyes to having the trucks drilled in just that little bit more, so I have been doing that to other trucks now as well.
Maybe this should just be moved to the Madness thread, because it would probably be making others heads hurt, but everything works nicely on my setups and I know now exactly how to get to where I want to be, only taken 40 years to get here though.

Early on, I graduated from Jessup to Jessup Ultra to Mob. The next pivotal moment was trying Pepper. Now it's Pepper for every deck. G5 feels directly in between Jessup and Mob in terms of grip strength. It wears less dramatically than Mob and holds its grip consistently better than both.
Pepper joins Spitfire, for me, as non-negotiables. Both prove their performance reliably every time.
Only other component that's been unchanged since 2020 is a twin deck aka my forever shape.

My short run on 93s didn't feel significantly different than 99s, on my joints. I'm not sold on that.
The loss of board feel with beefier shoes, which has a more measurable impact in lessening soreness, doesn't bother me as much as the loss in speed, momentum, slide, and grind when I tried the 93s.
I have the Galaxy G5 now and have seen it on others in the wild. It's eye catching but the speckles glint and are most apparent when direct light hits so it's not always full on projecting. I like it.

Maybe I’m just sensitive, and/or old. I was excited about some neon pink F4’s, and skated for around 45 minutes in them, and felt sore the day after…
With the x99’s I don’t get that. (Shoes and insoles were the same on both)
I definitely remember decades ago not caring at all on “hard” wheels. 99duro was just fine on most things, and just dealing with the chatter on crusty ground (or avoiding it completely because “ground sucks”)
The squeakiness (and cool graphics and colors) of F4’s 99 are sorely missed, but the x99’s are good enough to scratch the itch.
Gotta say that this thread is a great, because it sure does feel good to have have landed on gear that is “perfect”, just to be able to get to focus on the skating part and landing stuff.

And I totally agree agree about 93s. I've had a few sets and they're super great for rough ground but I'm not sold on the good for joints thing either, 99 percent of the time I want 99s

The 93’s soft sliders are good. I’m just scared of them now:
I ate so much shit slipping out on black asphalt skating the Reynolds 93’s. I’m afraid of them now ;D
The X formula kind of does the same thing, but the whole “can’t get the chemical because of the military” also spooks me a little into not believing they’ll be around forever. (I hate change!)

I slipped out HARD on some 93a, 58mm radials on blacktop
The classics have a bit more bite for power slides vs the NASCAR tire that 58mm radials are, but I still find myself not trusting them as much and they're sticky on rails/coping and metal ledges, I found myself waxing the inside of my wheels
Also the hating change/not wanting to get used to something that might get pulled later is a big deal with madness for me

I had wheel madness for many years, everything else has been pretty consistent:
14.5” wheelbase deck, 8.75-9” width. Any woodshop but NHS, I don’t like the way their boards feel

Trucks hold up about a year for me. Was ace af1 60 for the last year and now it’s Indy 159s. New trucks is the only thing where I actually have to take my time for a couple of sessions and break things in
If I had constant access to ok priced dlx white eagle shapes that would be all I’d ride. But here in Europe at least at my local the price had crazy ups and downs. Sometimes 30€ more than other brands. So decks have been all over the place for me. But that never really bothered me.
Wheels have to be f4 or x99, again crazy expensive here so I just buy the biggest wheels I can get away with and ride them forever. So I’ve been on radial full 56s for the last years.
If only I could find my perfect shoe. Haven’t bought the same pair twice for the last 5 years or so. Lucas premiere could be it but seems like it was just a one off
All in all to me it feels like the trucks and wheels are my setup and I just dress them up with a different deck every few weeks

Ledges, flat bars, and general skatepark banks and quarters. Flat ground spins and shuvs…. Can’t flip very well so don’t.

I only skate curbs and the bank ramps I have setup in my garage. I'm basically a hermit and there's no parks close to me anyway so it works out. Plus I'm old.
I'm still tweaking the size of wheels I'm riding but for the rest of my setup I'm content.
I'm a big fan of the Etnies Barge. I bought a pair last fall and they're only now wearing through in the ollie area. I don't flip my board so I can't say they'd hold up to flicks but I wouldn't doubt it. The bottom of the soles are pretty worn but for 50 bucks I'm getting another pair. I think they're kind of a slept on shoe TBH.

Good question! I started on Conical about 5.5 years ago and wanted more stability so Conical Full was next. It has been the one I've skated the most and I believe I like it the most, as well - stable, but still grinds/slides excellent.
Lately, I've been on OG Classics and they're the better than C/CF new in the same areas I mentioned above, but get pretty sharp edges quicker, so a "good time, not a long time" essentially compared to C/CF.
Conical Full is my home, but I liked Radials a lot, so I'm skating another set next to see if that's the best middle ground between Classic & Conical shapes for me!

what trucks/wheels do you run on the logan board? ive skated through like 5, have 2 on ice, but i have always had trouble with how dramatically flat the tail is. tried everything from risers, ventures with forged plates, 60mm wheels just to get a normal pop angle. how do you work with this issue?

54 or 53mm bones or spits usually, 53 for venture and Thunder
Bearings have to spin decent I don’t care which.

Did the same with my favorite Scram shape(s). Unfortunately I’m down to 3 now. Sure hope they keep Logan’s board around since that’s the next one I’m hoarding.

Normally Indy f/h 169s with 53 classic spits. Going to give some 66 AF1s a shot. I haven’t really noticed any difference from any of the other Scram decks I’ve had(the Assault x Scram Watson made deck being the exception. Super flat all around but I actually liked it once I got used to it).

Bones 52mm X99 slimmer shape (X97 when needed)

Pepper grip
7/8th Allen bolts
If they stop making that hermanator shape I’ll ride the alien workshop Yaje shape ( 8.175 x 32 wb 14.5) as that’s the board I was riding last summer.
Glad I’m not the only person who feels as though they need to lock in and stop with the product experiments. So far I’ve donated thousands of dollars worth of gear to a local non profit that sends boards, shoes, and clothes to South America. I know that sounds insane but I’ve accumulated so much stuff over the 24 years I’ve been skating. Working at shops and getting flow is cool an all until you realize you have so much shit you don’t even want and it just feels shitty. Obviously grateful for it all just time to let stuff go. Also over wall boards, I only have a few (not even hanging up lol) but I for sure will not be adding to my “collection”.

The purple were from the first drop a few years back right? If that’s the case, I can’t compare them since I missed out when they first came out. Checked with 4 other Scram shapes and the only one that’s different kicks is a BTP tri point nose(forget what the shape was called) has steeper kicks but they’re all bbs/generator with the exception of Nolan’s first shape(his original welcome shape) reissue. That ones PStix since Paul had done them originally.

yep, purple was the first drop. I am pretty confident that the purple nolan boards are not bbs/generator. What I think may have happened is that the the synth deck was designed for a bbs mold, but ended up being produced somewhere else, and the woodshop used the concave mold design for the 15/15.25wb deck shapes, but just slapped the 14.25wb on it, leaving an impractical amount of extra flat space between the trucks and the kicks. the overall concave is unlike anything I have ever seen from bbs. I have skated way too many scram decks, and they were all bbs for a while, but definitely changed to a different woodshop around that time. my local uses the same supplier as scram/blackmarket, and our shop decks changed from bbs to something else at the same time scram did. all the decks got much flatter and less stiff. I have both a BBS version and a later non BBS version of the scram hyunjun rocket shape, the BBS one is way higher quality, its kind of a bummer. are you saying that scram is back on BBS? that would be amazing news.

Well, I can’t say for sure now, but I asked Nolan ~3 years ago and they were definitely bbs/generator then. All the ones I have all are the same wood/stain that say bbs to me. I do see what you mean about the little extra flat so the tail sort of feels a little smaller(you could be onto something with the mold for a longer wb), but all the boards with the exception of the BTP(and the PSTIX Nolan)have the same concave and kick angles. If you’re local to Blackmarket or know Nolan, definitely ask them or him. If not, I could always shoot him a message and see if they changed but I honestly don’t think they did.

I had a good look through as much info as I could for the Woodshop thread but unless someone contacts them directly, I don't think we can easily get to the bottom of it.
This is the best listing to show a board, which I can definitely see a whole lot of flat after the bolt holes, so it kind of makes sense if they were doing all the wider shaped boards on the same mold, which are mostly very long wheelbases, then this one with a "regular" wheelbase would look like it has half a hand of flat, more so than a finger or two.
