Title: Can't Even Flip the Board on Heelflips
Post by: Daewon_Stan on June 10, 2026, 01:01:48 PM
I could get mobbed heelflips 4 out of every 10 tries about 6 months ago. I haven't done them in a couple months, and I can't even flip the board now. I don't know how I just entirely lost a trick like that.
I have an easier time flipping if my feet are closer together. However, I can flip it like 1 out of every 10 tries now. I can't flip it whatsoever if my front foot is closer to the front bolts.

I'm regular stance, and I heard that regular skaters have a harder time with heelflips than goofy skaters. I don't know how true that is, but if anyone battled heelflips and had any breakthroughs, please share any advice.

Sounds like you were getting them

Consistency with this toy really pays off in full

Possibly moreso than anything else

Yes, I now realize the foolishness of not practicing heelflips consistently. I promise to God that once I relearn them, I will do them every single day as much as I can. I promise to God that every day I will work towards my dream of learning heelflips in all 4 stances and kickflips in the other 3, and taking them up and off of curbs.

I've always been a kickflipper more than a heelflipper, decided to change that this year. If you're a natural kickflipper, heelflips are going to feel weird since it feels like there's less board to flip off while having a less distinct flip trigger (flicking the toe off the side of the board).

The Skate IQ video covers the fundamentals of foot position and weigh distribution so get those nailed first.

On under rotating the board I found that my heel was not making enough contact off the edge of the nose to get it to flip. This could be down to timing - I'm flicking off prematurely and off the toeside rail instead of the nose. Been toying with 2 things to address this:

1. Popping the board diagonally backwards - this forces the board forward, bringing the nose closer to my front heel so I make more shoe contact when I start flicking.
2. Aiming to flick straight off the nose - thinking about flicking off the side of the nose always causes me to flick prematurely, aiming for the tip of the nose forces me to delay my flick so the meaty part of the heel makes contact

(he does a better job at explaining it at 3:30)
