He has the best job in the world. He's getting paid to do what he loves. If he can't put in some work and push himself to put out a good part, then yes he's a bum. No amount of stressing out would make being a pro skateboarder not easily worth it.

I disagree with Pops' statement that he's glad he didn't know anything about Fred Galls personality when he was a kid and that's the way it should be with pros. All of these segments show how many interesting personalities populate skateboarding. Even if I don't like their personality (most of the time pros are self-aggrandizing, overtly pretentious and hilariously unwilling to admit the humor in their occupation) it's still interesting to watch. Two things you are incapable or unwilling to understand:
1) Style matters and not everyone has it.
2) The fact that street skateboarding is dependent on spots and every place has different spots.
If you are trying to do a line that involves skating through traffic or grinding something really chunky and tall on a crowded sidewalk, you are purposely being stubborn for not taking that into account.

For the record here though, most of my statements are aimed at his attitude about skating, and not so much about his skating it's self. While I do get pretty fucking annoying seeing ollies and 50-50s from him in almost every ad, he has put out some good shit. You see his job is not to be good at skateboarding, his job is to stay marketable. And because footage of Poppalardo is few and far inbetween, people still want to see it no matter how "bad" it is. I mean look at how many people love/hate this episode. And love hate is what sells.

I sort of have a feeling that none of the people involved in the making of Fully Flared ever wanted to 'change skateboarding', there's a huge irony in that they started to feel major pressure to push the limit, and that a fair chunk if not most of that pressure came from what was being said on the slap message boards. Maybe if there was average or mediocre hype about it on here, there would be more night NYC footage from popps and less slo-mo everywhere else.
But, who am I kidding, its Lakai. I hope the hype about crailtap on here is fading with those guys, because they're in for the same shit with the upcoming chocolate video.

wenning had a recent interview somewhere, i can't recall what in, but he basically said how pappalardo was bummed they picked wenning over him for habitat and after that happened pops never spoke to him. he seemed bummed in the interview they weren't still tight.

I'm having mixed feelings about this, and it leads me to believe that Pops was right. I don't really want to know anymore about Anthony Pappalardo. The first episode was like, I just want to skate and do stuff that I think looks cool. Now, it seems like he's kind of a dick. Dude hated Wenning for doing a kickflip. Now, he hasn't talked to him for five years because Wenning got on Habitat? That's pretty lame. I hope the third episode is just ten minutes of ollies.

and with the kickflip thing, wenning basically admitted that he snaked it from pops. anthony was trying it and bailing and then wenning just rolld up and does it before him. if you didn't know someone and they did that to you, you know the first thing you would od is get pissed at them. it can completely be seen as one-up man ship.

Either way, I'd willing pay 20-30$ if strobek put out a video ala closure. If he included commentary from other people as well, I'd be super hyped. Hope you're reading this Bill!
My take is that they just went different ways in skateboarding. Pappalardo moved to NYC, took his skating in a different direction. Wenning continued being a douche bag/drunk fool and stayed in South Jersey. I'm sure it's not like it's on purpose that they haven't seen each other in 5 years, it's just that they haven't run into each other. I'm sure there's no bad blood. Wenning seemed bitter to me. Seemed to be hating on Paps skating of late.I don't think we saw the same video.
His old footy proves everything I said about him. The dude could have easily put out a part on-par with the rest of the team, but he was fucking lazy and uses this "oh I wanted to try something different" bull as an excuse. What a lame guy.

That said, I know EXACTLY what Pops is saying. I had plenty of "skateboard" friends when i was 14-15 years old and nowadays I couldnt even imagine hanging with them. We were all just SO different. But when there is only like 5-15 kids that skate in the towns nearby, you make due and latch onto each with the bridge that is skateboarding.
Of course we'd be friendly now, but they just wouldnt be people id want to hang with everyday again.

i think a lot of people were hating on pat because they thought he was only a handrail skater, and i heard that he just got over the whole microscope that is the industry. he's prob just ripping on his own.
It's so rad to see outtakes from Photosynthesis, and I guess a bit of Mosaic. I want more though...Brian Had the best selling board on plan b at one time. I'm sure pops boards are among the least selling boards on chocolate.
I'm hoping there's a whole episode on Mosaic, and then the switch from Alien to Chocolate (that's a pretty big deal really) and maybe even a final one on Lakai/Converse. It'd be good to see even more unused footage too. Especially more recent stuff.

This has happened to me a few times over the years, too. You start to skate with someone every day for some reason, maybe your schedules are the same, you dig the same spots, you just click. Then you just drift apart at some point, nothing dramatic happens but you just realize that at the end of the day the only thing you had in common was skating. And there's nothing wrong with that, it just happens, that's life. I see one of those dudes around sometimes and we say what's up but we have nothing in common except that we shared some good times skating ten or 15 years ago.
I love these episodes, so good on many levels.
