The problem with metal is it's hard to make the skating seem more 'intense' than the song. Unless you are hauling ass and hitting massive stuff, it will probably end up looking like you are an eleven year old kickflipping a three stair. Also your video sucked my dick.

I forgot about that Ellington part...it would be hard to pull off a part with some At The Gates/Death/Carcass type shit and have it be cool, as awesome as those bands are...for some reason, though, 70's/Classic metal works great (i.e. henry in pack o' lies and carroll in FF)

I think Metal is one of the most untapped music genres for videos. (Along with real early 70s punk.) There's so much good metal out there that has yet to be used. People usually end up using some corny ass metal like Iron Maiden. Also sorry Carbonite, Judas Priest has some great songs, but I think Carroll's song is a perfect example of the type of metal that shouldn't be used.

I was super fucking impressed with Slash using Holocaust for his Black And Blue section. Pretty much made me instantly like him for life.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGMcDqgI7CE

Diamond Head's Am I Evil always needed to be used, but I don't really think it fit Vincent Alverez's section, or Ty's blockbuster style editing.

But yeah, there's tons of good more obscure metal out there that would be so good for sections.

And then of course there's this. Best music choices ever.

greco skates to new york dolls in baker has a death wish. greco skates to mc5 in ctaclysmic abyss,
and up untill recently duffel always used mostly obscure 70s punk songs for his parts.

early punk being my favorite thing in the universe, i too feel that it is untapped, but im ok with it.

Yeah dude. Duffell always uses good music. Whether people like him or not, fuck it. He uses great music. Greco also skated to Chinese Rocks, and Boulala skated to Pirate Love. Thunders is probably my favourite musician ever, but classic punk is still untapped. First of all, The Buzzcocks and The Stooges have hardly been used, then on top of that you have so many amazing punk singles from like The Lurkers and Swell Maps and all that good shit that haven't even been gone near.

Actually Zero has a pretty great music history when you think about it. Besides the obvious shit they used The Mekons, Only Ones, The Adverts, all kinds of good shit. Someone there definitely knows their 77-79 punk.

Oh yeah, and of course King Diamond was amazing in Alex Olson's section. Didn't fit the video, but it was good for Olson. Would have been better in like a Spitfire video or something though.

Also fucking AMAZING choice to use Corpse Without A Soul for the intro to Cataclysmic Abyss.

Samhain is another band that's never been used (besides Archangel in a Zero credits section) that has so many amazing songs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX1wZv3hBzA

With this as a hammer section:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=353Ngbz70sY

I could see that going down in a Zero video or something.

Yeah Ragdoll skated to Search And Destroy after AVE already killed the fuck out of it. I kinda like Ragdoll, but to re-use easily one of the best song choices ever.... I don't give a fuck if you put in a voice over saying "It's already been used but fuck it. It's just skateboarding." You just cannot step to AVE. Ever.

Word dude. It's beyond me how anyone can be really into Iron Maiden. To me Iron Maiden seems like the kind of band for people who want to be into metal but don't actually like metal. I mean, they have the high voices, not really heavy music, and they do have a great name, logo, and shirts and stuff. But besides maybe like 6 enjoyable songs, they just are not a very good band.

Black Sabbath
Diamond Head
Holocaust
Venom
Exodus
Metallica
Megadeth (Pretty much only Rust In Peace)
Slayer
Mercyful Fate/King Diamond
Hellhammer
Celtic Frost
Death
Immortal

That's the real shit.

I'm sure this questions been answered many times.
But I'm a fan of electric wizard, sleep and bongzilla
What other bands would you recommend that sound similar?
or are the same music style..
Title: Re: any fans of metal in skate vid parts?

Well Black Sabbath, but I'm assuming you know that.

Pentagram, the albums Day Of Reckoning and Relentless. Real good sludgy doom metal.

The Melvins. Their old stuff like Gluey Porch Treatments and Ozma is really slow and harsh. I prefer the album Houdini. Stoner Witch is a good album too.

^^
Yeah I have nearly all the sabbath albums on vinyl, and seen the melvins before.
But I've only heard one or two pentagram songs
thanks

Ah hahahaha DOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

Judging from what you like I suggest.....

Bongripper, Buried At Sea, Buzzov*en, Cavity, Eyehategod, Iron Monkey, Burning Witch, Isis, Coffins, Damad, Kylesa, Devil And The Sea, Gates Of Slumber, Witchcraft, Baroness, Goatsnake, High On Fire, Graves At Sea, The Hidden Hand, Indian, Minsk, Neurosis, Noothgrush, Sourvein, Weedeater, Wino,

Now some of them are a little cleaner on the vocals side, but all of them are pretty Doomy, or at the very least Doom influenced, like Kylesa (who has released one of the greatest metal albums of the year) they are nearly straight up stoner jams, but there is a lot of doom influence.  Have fun and let me know if I can help.

KYUSS - If you don't own Blues for a Red SUn you're blowin it
Spaceboy - The singer from BL'AST from the old Santa Cruz videos band
Hawkwind - The band Lemmy was in before Motorhead. They have some weird spacey electronic tunes, but Orgone Accumulator and their version of Motorhead are stony
Dozer - Maybe fits in the category. They're from like Sweden or something

Personally, I'm not into cookie monster style vocals
Hawkwind

yep. not my favorite, and not doom metal really, but hes looking for new music and i feel that album might interest him based on stylistic similarities to their first album, and doom metal in general.

wow i just sounded like a teacher or something.

Mainly because I think they are boring.  I don't need the super heavy and then the clean and pretty.  I like proggy when done in a 70's way (like the new mastodon).  But my main interest in metal is the super extreme.  I either like the most brutal grind possible like Kill The Client or Insect Warfare, or I like it slow and mercilessly evil like Graves At Sea and Thou (all of those are newer bands, though Graves and Insect are defunct)  My favorite bands are Eyehategod and pig Destroyer which couldn't be further apart in a number of ways.  Opeth and Meshuggah are two bands that never made it for me.
just picked that up, really good

Dude, Bloodbath is the shit.  It's hard to believe that the vocalist it Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth..... who I cannot stand

careful though. on "nightmare made flesh" it isn't åkerfeldt. in other news, i really like opeth and HATE!, the new mastodon album is amazing. probably one of my favorite albums of the year along with blut aus nord's "memoria vetusta II-dialogue with the stars." not too big of a doom fan however. especially when it gets into drone territory. but have you heard of anaal nathrakh? if you like pig destroyer, they might be up your alley.
