Who has grown on you, and why?
Lizard King- I still hate the nickname, but he just got a lot better, and he skates some crazy shit
AVE- this was a while ago, and I wised up, I still don't know what there wasn't to like about him
Jason Dill- Liked him in the 101 days, then he started annoying me around the mosaic part, and since then his skating has gotten better, and I've gotten used to how his skating has changed
Sammy Baca- I never really hated him, I liked his skating, but he seemed kind of gimmicky. Now even if it is a gimmick, he is gnarly as fuck, and I'm down.
Pretty much every transition skater- Used to hate watching footage of tranny, was too into street to even give it the time of day.
-
Mike Mo
Sean Malto
When I dislike someone, it's usually forever, with the exception of kids who just came up at the time of hatred, I could eventually end up liking them.
-
Actually, I used to really not enjoy watching Sean Malto AS WELL because he was kind of boring to watch, every trick being by-the-book consistent.
But I got over that once I realized that it was because he was amazing and technically flawless.
-
i like marty murawski. he is good. i didnt no him. i no who it is. he is good. he can be on the x games.
-
Jerry Hsu - Cmon. Remember those fuckin 411 things with him? Maple? Knock kneed gigolo with his hands pointing in weird awkward directions. Some how got way better, nobody can deny the bag of suk juice.
Kris Kole - This guy was fuckin terrible at first. There was some part he had in like Logic or something where he was doing these bunk ass backside nosegrind pop outs at love park during the height of the photosynthesis nosegrind pop out trend. Kole's nose pops were just stanky k grinds. Seeing footage of this dude on that mini board and some other shit won me over somewhat... he is pretty fuckin gnarbox.
Mmmm... I dunno... Don't expect me to say Leo Romero cause I'm still not sold on that shit. Not sold on that Chad Muska revisionist history either, his frontside flops were always stanky.
Bonus: Dude who you used to like, but don't like now: Chris Roberts - Listen era this dude killed so hard. Any footage of him was gold (Chocolate Tour) even though there wasn't much. Now he's on some weird Marc Johnson hand posing kick that makes his shit look pretty fuckin shitty.
Time to get bitter holmes.
-
when blackout came out i loved ragdoll, adam alfaro and patrick melcher then when i got a little older i realised the 3 of them sucked ass
but now i appreciate adam alfaro
i also used to think slash was horrible but ever since his name formally changed to brian hansen and he had his parts in deathwish and ride the sky, ive grown to like him
-
brian hansen is on of my favorites now but when i first saw the pig video i couldnt stand the guy at all
-

I hear you with the lizard king ish, he keeps growing on me, and I'm the opposite with ave, well I like who he's matured into but I miss the skate rat van engelen a la feedback as opposed to the modern vato van engelen. it's whatever though, both are sick in their own way.
Bonus: Dude who you used to like, but don't like now: Chris Roberts - Listen era this dude killed so hard. Any footage of him was gold (Chocolate Tour) even though there wasn't much. Now he's on some weird Marc Johnson hand posing kick that makes his shit look pretty fuckin shitty.
fo reals!!!
-
tyler bledsoe because i remember him from the hawk clothing/element twigs days, but his newer stuff is great
-
slash is a fucking fool and people like him solely for his stupid image, very similar to cotg liking tk because he is terrible on a skateboard
-
jake duncombe
-
torey pudwill
-
slash is a fucking fool and people like him solely for his stupid image, very similar to cotg liking tk because he is terrible on a skateboard
What in the hell> TK and slash both get it in. You're crazy.
-
Adam Alfaro - I used to get bummed that he used purple haze in his black out part, and always got annoyed that he had more footy in "label live" than everyone else. But after seeing back in black, I now love the dude!
Clark hassler- It took a few viewings of his bag of suck part to really enjoy it, but now all his recent stuff is awesome.
Malto - used to think he was a rail nerd with only a few tricks, Recent stuff beg's to differ, and the dude kills it so hard
I dont feel like explaining these next few but
Jeff lenoce, dan murphy, matt reason, quim cardona, bobby worrest.
Quim is now one of my favorite skaters though :D
-
mike mo and malto were big ones for me at first but now im super stoked on them.
a lot of times if im not sold on somebody and i see them skate in person it changes my mind completely.
-
Someone on here was talking about malto way back in the day, like, two years ago.
Either way I was drunk and claimed Malto was ill even though almost everyone hated on him because he pop shoved a 14 and has good style.
-
Kris Kole - This guy was fuckin terrible at first. There was some part he had in like Logic or something where he was doing these bunk ass backside nosegrind pop outs at love park during the height of the photosynthesis nosegrind pop out trend. i dont understand why anyone would like chris cole...
he's like that plg guy or paul rodruigez. yeah he's good and does a lot of tricks... but watching his robotic perfection can never in any way get me psyched to skate
EDIT:
and black nail polish... really?
-
Chris Cole's a good one. Jake Duncombe's another good.
I don't know about Lizard though, I saw him skate at PHX Am maybe 4 or 5 years ago and could tell he really had fun skateboarding. And his trick selection was interesting.
-
I didn't care for either Devine Calloway (Street Cinema) or Marcus Mcbride (Let the Horns Blow). I thought they were both terrible looking. Then when they grew a bit and got on 101 and Chocolate, respectively, I was totally surprised how much better they got.
-
i always work in the opposite direction. i cant count how many people i liked and now want to see dead.
-
I'm never wrong to begin with.
-
slash is a fucking fool and people like him solely for his stupid image, very similar to cotg liking tk because he is terrible on a skateboard
slash kickflipped frontboarded oceanside and kickflip 50-50d the triangle in miami....that and the fact he skates fast as fuck
-
I used to dislike Reynolds, what was I thinking?
-
dustin dollin......jake duncome...and james craig...no wait he still sucks
-
slash is a fucking fool and people like him solely for his stupid image, very similar to cotg liking tk because he is terrible on a skateboard
i dont understand what it is with everyone saying people have "images"
skateboarding is (at least used to be) cool, so naturally, cool people like slash and tk are gonna skate, and happen to be good.
-
scott pazelt > slash

This is going back a ways but back in the 80s me and everyone I knew thought Hosoi was an arrogant douchebag who was just in it for money and chicks. Now he seems like a totally humble, cool dude and when I watch the footage of him from back in the day I can't believe how amazing he looks on a board compared to pretty much everyone else from that era. So much style, it's ridiculous.
More recently, I though Duffel was the ugliest, most awkward-looking dude on a skateboard ever the first time I saw him. I've come around though - the dude goes insanely fast and big. Balls-out skating.
-
I used to dislike Reynolds, what was I thinking?
wow. i was thinking the same. when he won radlands he seemed like this nerd tall kid.
then he started biting penny and actually became the best ever...turtle...
those dudes seem to have flipped sides...
mj in the dickies receding hairline days.
hsu for sure. was straight barney on maple.
jamie...before he figured out his nollie heels weren't his biggest asset...
crooked arm used to be gross...
-
used to hate on duffel for the way he dresses, but im over that; he gets fucking gnarly.
-
I remember being in 7th grade thinking reese forbes was boring and "only did ollies" , now he is one of my favorites
I used to like reynolds and now i just can't get into his shit. things change, opinions change. I'd like to think that my opinions on skateboarding/skateboarders have changed for the better
-

That's funny. I would have figured that if you didn't like him in '96, you'd definitely not like him now.
Other than that, I could see someone being turned off by his intellectual phase during enjoi, but skating-wise, he's been consistent.
-
i watched busenitz first real part and thought, that the guy sucks. the chichagof part made it for me, and since then, i'm just a fan.
-
Huf
I used to think he regressed on purpose after he got on Real, like stopped being tech on purpose or some shit
now I think it's cool to just go fast and do huge, perfect ollies and 360 flips
-

he's humble these days but he was arrogant back in the day. i figured for people who liked hosoi that was part of the appeal.
-
T. Puds, and Mike Taylor have come a long way in my book from what I used to think of them.
-
Dill after his skate more part I hated him but his mind field part was just too fucking sick
-
dustin dollin......jake duncome...and james craig...no wait he still sucks
Haha, so true.
-
Dill after his skate more part I hated him but his mind field part was just too fucking sick
had you never seen any Dill footage pryer to Skate More?
-
i didn't like zero as a whole in the new blood era, but then ride the sky and the osiris vid came out and i started to like zero again. now i watch new blood every now and then.
i never watched first love so the only parts i knew of leo romero were that's life and deathwish, and i don't like either of those parts. then he did the noseblunt at maloof and all of his sick coverage in mags, so i watched his first love part and i like him now.
oh yeah, and i didn't like element team as a whole after elementality until this is my element. the video sucked editing/music wise, but the skating was really good.
-
definitely Mystery as a company
-
seriously i must of been high and i guess i got the wrong first impression of silas. i dont know what was teh first footage iv seen from him. but now he is like my favorite skater
-
you disliked Ronnie Creager at some point?
-
gonz
then i realized skating is more fun than serious
-
Jon Allie. Well I never disliked him, I just didn't really care about him. Then I realized how gnarly that dude is.
-
first impressions are everything. With that said, i reeeally disliked Dylan Reider after seeing his part in the Osiris video "Subject to Change." I think he was hooked up by Birdhouse at the time.
Then he got on Rasa Libre, aquired an eye-pleasing style, and i've been in looooove with him ever since.
i wasn't too crazy about Duncombe's part in "What If" either (it may have had alot to do with the mullet). But he's fuckin' rad NOW, and that's all that matters.
-
I wasn't a Duncombe fan until he turned into Shane Cross.
-
Steve Cab

Then he got on Rasa Libre, aquired an eye-pleasing style, became a trend hopper, and i've been in looooove with him ever since.
I wasn't a Duncombe fan until he turned into Shane Cross.
Probably one of the truest things I've ever heard.

dylans change was to drastic though it seems like he was thinking how can i get everyone to stop hating me then took it to far
-
i watched busenitz first real part and thought, that the guy sucks. the chichagof part made it for me, and since then, i'm just a fan.
you watched his real to reel part and thought it sucked? wow. that part was one of the best in the vid
dylan reider. thought he was just another generic rail kid, but his transworld part changed that perception.
on the topic skateboarders i now think suck, i'm going with diego buchierri. used to think he was rad, now can't stand to watch his carcass-tossing bird style.
-
Jason Dill- Liked him in the 101 days, then he started annoying me around the mosaic part, and since then his skating has gotten better, and I've gotten used to how his skating has changed
definitely agree
-
i was never too stoked on silas either when i first saw him, but fuck his inhabitants, es and even that strange notes part got be completely down with him. i think it was a thrasher part i first saw of him. i wouldn't say dislike, just completely different to how i see him now. that dude's come a long way for sure.
-
duffel and lizard king
-
bryan herman (when he first got on baker): little kid steez. tic tacs and what not.
bryan herman (now): undeniable talent. grew into a really sick style.
-
Used to think Chad Tim Tim was gross in his Globe/World days, but ironically, his Element days have been awesome and he's now one of my favorites...
-
I used to think Brian Brown was weak back in his Zoo York/E.S.T. days, but he's pretty awesome now.
-
Javier Nunez, Ed Selego for a quick minute, Mikey T, Dan Murphy, Chris Haslam (didnt he have a digital part? If so that was terrible), Leo, and Benny Fairfax.
-
Bryan Herman.
-
i remember austyn gillette being on termite. shits wack
-
Duffel's past racism/homophobia still throw me off to this day.
his racism? i guarantee you say more racist shit every day of your life, everyone in the world says that shit
-
Don Nguyen - I thought of him as some boring rail guy around the time of that 411 part, but his newer shit has been really good.
-
All I can think of is Mikey Taylor. His style has come a long way since In Bloom
-

Gerwer's Nose, I came up on one those posters from your avatar, but where's the footage from?

i used to hate on jake duncombe, dont know what it was, couldnt watch him. now im pretty down for him.
-
when i was young, i wasn't into fred gall whatsoever. and that was based on his mosaic part, and how gross everything looked.
now he's seriously in my top 10, hell, i got a pair of domestics work pants on right now.
thats funny, I started getting into magazines/videos around the time mosaic came out and fred's part in that really opened my eyes to what skateboarding should be about. he had an ad doing a nosepick at that cool transistion spot in barcelona and it just totally stuck out to me for some reason, dude has been my favorite since then.
mikey taylor has come along way since skate more...I used to think he was the epitome of the 'bland california dude' but he's starting to grow on me now. I used to really dislike pat smith and his mohawk, but I love him now.
I used to really dislike ed selego until his post-mosaic footage. bryan herman also matured into a likeable skateboarder. There's tons of dudes I dislike, but I never really think about them unless someone brings them up in person.
-
Tony Trujillo, probably cause i was just some dumbshit kid who didnt like that whole punk rock look he had. kinda forgot about him until beauty and the beast dropped and now hes one of my favorites. still cant forget about these though, I remember this was a main reason for my hatred...

Javier Nunez, Ed Selego for a quick minute, Mikey T, Dan Murphy, Chris Haslam (didnt he have a digital part? If so that was terrible), Leo, and Benny Fairfax.
Haslam had a Digital part with clips of girls asses and tits to the song "girls girls girls" by Moteley Crue. At the premier it was awkward because there were little kids and mom types sitting next to me. I believe he had some one footed noseslide trick in there too. I still don't care for his skating.
-
I preferred Mikey on Girl.
-
Leo Romero - his part in First Love was pretty forgettable, but his photos in Skateboarder were amazing.
-
^ PM'ed me bible quotes explaining why the new testament actually does ban homosexuality.

So you had never seen his hubba destruction in time code, right?
-
eric koston. he came off as a cocky bastard. still is to a degree but the skating is there so, whatever. i sometimes wonder what kind of person he would've become without rick mike and megan constantly checking his ego.
It's hard not to be cocky when your that good
Although he doesn't seem cocky to me at all, he seems like a cool dude who's down for fun skating.
I use to despise any hesh dudes cause I don't like big rail tricks, but now I can appreciate the gnarliness that it takes to man up to some of that deathwish kinda shit
-
i used to not like daewon. but that was just stupid. other than that, i think either I like your skating or ignored it completely. i cant remember caring enough to actively dislike someone for their skating. personality though, is a different story.

mike taylor. up to and including his mindfield part. his footage in the extras sealed the deal for me, more enjoyable than his actual part.

Rodney Dangerfield

fuck anyone whos ever said they didnt like someone because they do everything to "textbook" and perfect, therefore having a "robotic" style. thats the stupidest shit i ever heard in my life.

Also with the homophobia. That shit made the racism seem mild. Granted he was an ignorant suburban teenager, and they tend to be ignorant as fuck about people who are different from them. Most aren't, but some are. Hopefully he grew up and wised up. The shit was undeniably racist and homophobic.

Bastien.
Used to be a self cheering little dick. Got kicked off Flip and Etnies.
Rumours of him going to see a witch doctor in the congo and some weird ritual going down involving elephant blood.
Now is utterly insane and turns up at spots in a suit with two guitars and no board.
Got so much more time for him now.
-
Ryan Nix. I'm not even sure why I disliked him at one point but all I remember is always skipping his part in Bootleg 3000.
-
I used to dislike Reynolds, what was I thinking?
same, i wasnt into the whole kr3w andrew reynolds thing, ever siince he left kr3w and started up Altamont i have been down with him, mostley i didnt like his image, hated his dyed hair white button up shirts, plus to me he didnt have much tricks, all i saw was frontside flips and fullcabs, now i am a fully fledged reynolds fan, nollie inward heel baker ad, half cab heel noseslide for that altamont ad, so dope, i after reading his shit in thrasher saying that they need stuff like altamont and shit these days and how he explained that we need these shit companys because if you arent into them there always altamont, smart man
-
This isn't really a skater I hated but honestly even with some parts that I seen from Skate More and the Roll Forever vid....I was never really a fan of Busenitz. BUt just in the last couple of years from just demos and seeing how this guy skates live, he really is my favorite skater right now. The dude is a all terrain machine.
-
^ I can feel that, I had a similar opinion of Reynolds. I liked his part in The End a lot, but then he seemed to kind of repeat himself. His next 3 parts or something ended with a frontside flip down one more stair than his last part. But my god is he impressive when you see him in person, and I also genuinely think his parts picked up a little, even though, looking back, those other parts weren't that bad.
But yeah, I already liked Busenitz, but after seeing him in person many times, at many different spots, I am shocked at his talent level, it can be a ledge spot, the park, or anything else, and he is always skating 100 mph, always landing incredibly tough tricks at that speed either first try in the middle of a line, or within a few tries. I know its overdone, but he is so amazing.
