i can agree with no bonelesses, but no complys and late flips are legit in my eyes, anyone who says they are wrong or something is acting stupid... i cant see a reason of banning them... they will spice up the game

this was the last year we'll be doing it. it (s.k.a.t.e. contest) has become the most jock thing in skateboarding.
we started it because we all loved to play and we thought it would be a fun loose contest to mostly have fun with friends from near by areas.
it has turned into complete crap! kids train to come to the contest as though its a disapline in gymnastics.
im just waiting to hear kids be like "yeah, i compete in s.k.a.t.e. and the ten to twelve stair compulsary"

I don't hate and vibe people that like contests, those are sometimes cool, but it is true that the competitive edge is taking away what was fun in the first place. I'm not talking about friendly competition existing between people that skate together, i'm talking about those kids that sfa mentions that 'train' to win the games of SKATE. and all those kids that want to be the first to do a trick down a certain spot (el toro etc.), and all one-upping that takes place everywhere.
Its fucking stupid when you roll up to a spot and everyone is watching to see what you do, just so they can do something better to show you how good they are. you do a back tail and they do a kickflip back tail shove-out, then look at you like "yeah son, what up?" so lame. and theres the icy cold vibe everyone gives each other in an attempt to be super cool. the more I talk about this, the more annoyed I get. actually fuck skateboarding. fuck the jock mentality that its come to.
why do people hate p-rod, jereme rogers, et. al.? I personally think theyre excellent skaters, but look at the shit theyve started. Upping the stair count, upping the hammers, upping everything. When it used to be "damn I can't believe you did that!", now its "shits been done ten times before...and without your fake ass steez"
the X-games, corporate sponsorship and takeovers of skate brands. we passed the tipping point a long time ago

Contests have always been around in skateboarding and they definitely blow. However, I think the Game of SKATE idea is a good concept for a contest. Who doesn't play it with their friends? I also think I like this King of New York concept too. These contests actually sound like fun. Brooklyn Banks too. Fuck the Xtreme contests and fuck the skaters who live for contests though.
Props to some kid from Germany for his skills at Game of SKATE, I guess.

Alex is one of the nicest, humblest kids that I have ever met. His style is perfect and he beat everybody fair and square. He didn't get a letter for the first three rounds. He was flawless. Talk shit all you want. Some amazingly talented kid from Germany just had the best day of his life...and he was nothing but appreciative. Well done Alex.
If you want to complain about anybody...then do so about Taylor Smith or Daryl Grogan...no respect deserved there.

This is my first post because I usually lurk around but I can't stand when people try to hate on new skaters to make themselves seem somehow more mature in thier skate knowledge. You don't know what you're talking about... You just threw out the same names everyone throws out when talking about style. They do have amazing styles but come on dude, I gotta say it seems like you said that to try to legitimize your bullshit claims becuase you know no one will deny they're some of the cleanest. Geez...I KNOW clothing doesn't define style. Ugh. I am saying you can't fucking tell the new guys apart because they all try to skate and look the exact fucking same. Broken wrists, crossed arm crouch, acting like they aren't trying, having some stupid face when they land. It's all the same. The only way you can discern them often times requires you to look at their clothing to see what their damn sponsors are. Gangster robots with iPods is all it is.
Your style is a product of skating for a long time and becoming comfortable with how you do tricks enough to make them your own. It is NOT something you just pick from a line-up and decide "Hey, yea, I like that guys style so I'm going to use it" Take someone like Andrew Reynolds. No matter what the fuck he wears, baggy clothes or torn up girl's outfits, his style is ALWAYS discernable, because it's how he skates naturally, and it's fucking great.

95% of those kids that are faking their style aren't really going anywhere. I like mike-mo's style, it seems perfectly natural to me... If all the new kids are robots then you must not have too much hope for the future. Nice style list though. On a different topic, everyone forgets Jerry Hsu when talking about style, or do people not like his style?
