What was your first legit setup/board?
My older brother gave this to me when he stopped skating....it was 2000, but I loved it.
indy's
(http://grindboardsports.com/images/independent%20trucks%20Stage%209%20Silver%20Trucks%20149mm.jpg)
and really really old powell blanks
(http://shop.californiaboardlife.com/images/08-feb-12/cblwheels/cblwheel-bluegel.jpg)
I was like 15 years late. But it was fun
-
I had (http://www.skatelegends.com/steve_2.gif) with Tracker trucks and some Rat bones.
I was a huge Powell Peralta fan boy.
-
This was back in 01 when I first started.
Chad Muska Kamikaze deck, the green one. It was 7.75 if I remember correctly.
Some used indys that I bought off my friend that were already axle slipped and spray painted gold. I think they were 149's too, they were way too big for the board but I skated them anyways.
Blank 56 or 57mm wheels
FKD abec 3 bearings
Shop grip and shop hardware
Etnies, can't remember what model was though.
-
A Nash of course. But my first "REAL" setup was a free Rick Howard baseball deck. I still have it but not near me. I got it for free so i went to a shop and got some Indys, Girl wheels (figured since I had the board) and some Reds. I actually have all my boards still. A few arent even broken, they got skated til they had razor tail and chips all over.
-
-World Industries Flameboy deck; around 7.8?
-Fury Tall and Wides.......the guy at the shop said they'd been sitting there forever, and he'd give me $10 off if I got those
-Ghetto Child Tom Penny 54mm
-Speed Metal Bearings
-
Some world industries complete. I remember seeing all the kids skating Blind and World decks, sticker, etc. My first real setup was
Element deck
Venture trucks
random wheels, bearing, and hardware.
-
A Wet Willy World deck
A pair of hand-me-down Ventures
And some kind of Spitfires, I can't remember.
I think I had Lucky's for bearings or something.
-
I think it was this birdhouse: (http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/3/P11353302.jpg)
with generic trucks and wheels. I still have the deck somewhere.
-
shortys team deck
blue blank trucks
blue clear wheels
blank bearings
some cargo pants that zipped into shorts
d3s
-
powell mike v yellow bolt on white
ventures with green bushings
random wheels with a mix of bearings
bought it used from a friend
this graphic, different color

-
Mine was a ATM board (I still have it in my room somewhere with my other boards) with Tensor trucks, Indy bearings and blank wheels.
I had that board for like 5 years until I got a new one.. (I never took skating seriously when I started)
-
FLIP Rune Glifberg deck
Flip wheels that matched the deck (lame, I know)
Tensor Trucks
Black Panther bearings IIRC
-
consolidated deck (snapped after 3 weeks and I almost cried)
grind king trucks
probably some blank wheels
can't remember the rest
-
After a couple of sports shop completes my first real set-up was an old UK company the doesn't exist anymore called Icon.
7.75 Icon deck
Venture Hi's
&
54mm Icon wheels
-
i think it was this one, not sure, was to many years ago to really remember.
also had a ALVA Jeff Hartzell and a Zorlac gibson around that era.
-
It was 03 or 04, can't remember.
My friend hooked me up with his old board, it was Donuts (some european company) 7.5 board. Then I got Fury Supersport trucks, the ones you didn't needed a wrench to tighten the hardware , fat 53mm Blacklabel wheels, Speedmetal abec 5's.
-
A Wet Willy World deck
A pair of hand-me-down Ventures
And some kind of Spitfires, I can't remember.
I think I had Lucky's for bearings or something.
When did World Industries become such a crap company?
-
About a year ago, when I started, I got:
Almost Impact Deck
Blank Trucks
Black Ricta 52s
Blank Bearings

-
First board was a Foundation Kris Markovich, Fury's, some blank 51's (?), and I don't know what bearings. Lasted me a good 6 months.

One of my mom's coworkers at the factory she used to work at had a son who skated and she just came home with a black trash bag with three complete skateboards in it. One of the best days of my life since I was skating toy store/sport store completes until then.

I don't know what the wheels or bearings were.
-

i was so stoked when i got that shit, the decks had me going crazy. I gripped all 5 of them by myself and i didnt file any of them because sheckler said it was a waste of time. so you can imagine how bad they all were.

-
Nash Executionor.
Then I went on a family vacation with my cousions. One had a Santa Cruz. I don't know which model. When we got home I knew I needed a real board. I got a Tony Hawk skull graphic with white Trackers and pink Rat Bones. It was tight. I wish I still had it for retro vibes.
-
(https://i.imgur.com/5eq5lmkl.jpg)
I actually still have the deck. trucks were grind king lol, mini-logo wheels, lucky's bearings, shortys, and black magic grip. the luck's all exploded relatively quick so you can see a "china bones" sticker in the lower left, which is what reds were called at first
-

Madrid Fly Grip Strips.
Stage 5 Indy.
G-Bones in pink.
Black Rib Bones rails.

My first skateboard was a small red plastic banana board though.
Not my photo but this Hawk board. I remember doing my first ollie on it repeatedly asking my friends if I got off the ground. So happy. I slept with that thing.

I need to find the photo of it brand new from back in 2006!
-
I had a green Anti Hero with a graphic of a dagger on it in old sailor tattoo styling. I think it was a Julien board, although I'm not 100% sure. (I'm still trying to look for a photo of that board, I boardslided off the graphic within a year or two of having it. If anyone thinks they have one, please post it, I would love to see the graphic again) I had some Ventures on it and some green wheels, I think they were Think wheels. I can't remember the bearings but they probably were Black Panthers because I remember liking those when I was around that age. I got it from DLXSM when that still existed. I remember I put a big ass And1 sticker on the nose, which goes to show how long ago this was.
I remember my second board was a Pancho Moler Think board that had a graphic of Pancho in a Smurf cartoon running from a bunch of Smurf girls. I had some Ventures that were painted yellow and had a graphic of a bee where the V logo normally goes (I still have those trucks, I considered setting them up when I got back into small boards recently but I don't have the heart to grind with them, they're too sentimental lol). I had another set of Think wheels on that board, I don't know why it took me so long to start skating spitfires lol.
-
The first part by part setup I got was
AWS la pastelle series team 7.63
silver brand trucks red hangers
Autobahn 53mm
Reds
-
i cant remember for sure who's graphic it was, i remember it being an all blue, with different blue tones alien workshop board with don's work on it. pretty sure it might have been the berratrooper ... fuck me ...
red bearings
hubba wheels
royal trucks, light blue with red baseplate (boss shit)
dont remember what hardware
probably trash free grib so probably jessup or some shit
-
My first deck was an Alien Workshop with the “Quarantine” graphic. I had trouble finding a decently hi-res pic online for a while, but today it popped right up. I’ve been thinking about it a lot during the pandemic.
I also had venture trucks, until I traded them for a set of Tensors with the nose slide plate 8)
-
Shorty's Muska Silhouette - orange 7.625
black magic grip
black panthers bearings
destructo trucks
spitfires
-
I had a little blue banana board for years. Then I'd just spend all my time with kids who had two boards.
My first wooden set up was a valtera 10" with these old indy 4s I got gifted. They had dark green city streets wheels. I still got one of the trucks.
Then I got a real varaflex. Not like a store one but a nice one. Then I got a used Rob roskop face in purple.
That was the beginning for me.

the trucks were these funny looking krux trucks with a cowprint pattern all over it and i think bones stf’s with reds. my pops just randomly came home with the trucks one day. those were the days.

Mine was some kind of Big 5 complete - like a super cheapo Maui and Sons ripoff – when I was in 7th grade.
King pin was higher than the axel, bolts were convex tops not flat, wheels were basically plastic.
After a few months I did mad chores and saved up to get a real complete:
Hanger94 (local SD shop) shop deck
Grind King Trucks
Speed Demon Bearings
Hanger 94 Wheels
I felt like a champ skating that. Then a month later, high schoolers cornered me, took my board, hopped in their car and took off.
-
Oh man, I wish I could find one of my first boards! My parents gave me a single kick, white dip Snoopy "Joe Cool" board when I was about 10ish ('89/'90). I remember it having green or blue wheels, and it was amazing! Down the driveway on my knees for a while, as I genuinely didn't know you could stand on it.
My first "real" board came from the local sports shop in rural Hampshire, UK in about '93. I wish I remembered the brand, but it was natural stain with an American-style milk carton on the bottom and shaped due it likely being in that shop for a few years.
So many good memories attached to those bits of wood!
-
My first set up was a hand me down Nate Jones Rasa Libre board. It had a moth or a butterfly on it with an orange background. Had some ventures and with some spits on it. Would pay a pretty penny for that board rn.
-
Big blue variflex fish tail tank with no nose and 60+ mm wheels... I then moved on to one of those early 90s footballs with a nose and tiny wheels when I "got serious" about skating
-
7.5 World Industries Logo deck
5.0 Tensors with the fucking slide plates
61mm Spitfire bigheads, I shit you not, can't believe the skate shop sold my dumb ass these
Quickies
Black Magic
Wheel bite city with trucks that couldn't turn
-
I had techdecks of both of those AWS graphics posted.
Darkroom is cool, but it just doesn’t hit like 2000s era AWS.

I wish I still had it. Haven’t even managed to find a picture of the deck online yet. The biggest pants and the smallest wheels was the style and man did I want to live that life.
Funny thing is I’ve messed around with a bunch of trucks recently and I’m finding thunder is where I’m generally most comfortable. My current setup 27 years later is real, thunder and spitfires.

That could definitely be it! It's been so long since I saw the graphic that it's hard to tell what I really remember but that's pretty close to what I think it was. I definitely remember the ribbon wrapping around it, and that's definitely the right shade of green. I'm gonna go ahead and say it's that one because I would guess it's pretty unlikely AH would have put out a board graphic that similar to another board of theirs
-
My first set up was a school desk that my brother and i cut into a shape of skateboard and put rolleskate truck and wheels on it. We both rode it ans were falling a lot, then my brother got a hand-me-down from a guy at school and my mum decided to get me a real board so i dont keep getting thrown off that plank of shit we made! So she bought me a veriflex air attack complete in purple…something like this:
https://images.app.goo.gl/KHzopS6cPTqBYNkH9 (https://images.app.goo.gl/KHzopS6cPTqBYNkH9)
About a month or so later i broke the axle on the back truck…but i did learn to ollie on that board before upgrading to a proper Madrid Deck.
-
Year was probably 2003
Blacklabel deck with a full horizontal barcode with a dead ant over it
Grind King trucks--I had to have the kingpin clearance for the grinds I couldn't do yet
Spitfire wheels
Probably some cheap ass bearings like Black Panthers or something
Other decks I skated in my early days were Zero l, AWS, and a Darkstar which I snapped within like 4 hours
-
Got it for Christmas 2002:
Second one from the Left:
with some Destructos
Lucky Hardware, Risers and Bearings

My dad got it for me from CCS. I thought it was sick, it was a 7.5 if I remember.
Early 2000's Blacklabel crew checking in
