Title: Street Dreams- Rob Dydrek's Film Starring P Rod
Post by: HenryChinaski on September 26, 2006, 09:28:58 PM
Has any one heard about this? Sorry if it has already been discussed, I did a search and didn't see any topics. From Dydrek's Myspace:

"FILM BY PRO SKATEBOARDER ROB DYRDEK TO SHOW THE TRUE JOURNEY TO
SKATEBOARDING FAME

Los Angeles, CA Production begins today on "Street Dreams", a feature
length film that follows story of a young skateboarder's rise to
stardom while facing the challenges of a sport that battles for
legitimacy in mainstream society. Writers Rob Dyrdek, a professional
skateboarder, and long time industry insider Nino Scalia provide an
insider's look into the commonly stereotyped skateboarding culture.

With a mission to create a film that resonates true to the
skateboarding culture, Dyrdek has overseen all aspects of the film.
Along with writing and starring in "Street Dreams" Dyrdek has chosen
to finance and produce the film through his company Four Down
Productions and work in association with Scissor Farm Entertainment.
Scott Mellini and Chris Zamoscianyk of Scissor Farm Entertainment will
produce and direct the film respectively. Dyrdek will serve behind the
camera as executive producer.

"With "Street Dreams" we set out to produce the first skateboard film
that provides an accurate depiction of real street skating culture,"
said Dyrdek. "For me this is bigger than just a movie, it's the story
of every street skater in world."

The cast features a mixture of Hollywood's familiar faces and
skateboarding's established stars. Yancey Arias ("Thief", "C.S.I",
"The Shield"), C.C. Sheffield ("The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting
Down") and Adam Wylie ("Entourage", "Joan of Archadia", "Malcolm in
the Middle") bring their talents to the screen. Appearing alongside
these established Hollywood actors will be a cast of professional
skateboarders for the action heavy film.

Playing the lead character of Derrick will be Paul Rodriquez, the
2-time X Games Street Champion, face of Nike's skateboarding program
and considered by many to be the greatest street skater ever. Joining
Rodriquez will be Ryan Dunn, (MTV's "Homewrecker" "Viva La Bam" and
"Jackass"), and Terry Kennedy, pro skateboarder for Pharrell William's
Ice Cream Shoes. Dyrdek stars opposite Rodriquez as the lead
character's rival. Skateboarding heavyweights Stevie Williams of
Reebok's DGK, seventeen-year-old skateboarding phenomenon Ryan
Sheckler, and Baker Skateboards pro Jim Greco round out the cast.

During his fifteen plus years as a professional skateboarder Dyrdek
has gained extensive time in front of the lens. He has appeared in
numerous video parts, magazine covers and pages. Audiences can also
catch Rob starring on MTV's "Rob and Big Black" as the reality show
follows his life with best friend and bodyguard, Christopher "Big
Black" Boykin. The series is set to air on the popular network
beginning in Fall 2006.

Filming on "Street Dreams" will take place in Los Angeles, CA, Tampa,
FL, and Kettering, OH.

About Four Down Productions and Scissor Farm Entertainment
Formed by veterans of the entertainment business, Scott Mellini and
Chris Zamoscianyk, Scissor Farm Entertainment was began with their
desire to produce and develop films, videos, episodic and feature
films. Mellini and Zamoscianyk have teamed on several projects as
producer/director including the 2003- 2006 TV show "GKA", 2005's X
Dance film festival winner, "Vaya Con Dios" and numerous other
commercials and videos.

Four Down Productions was formed in support of "Street Dreams" and
will be the first venture for this company."

- With that cast, I'm sure it will be amusing if nothing else.

and considered by many to be the greatest street skater ever."

Since when is skateboarding battling for legitimacy in mainstream society?  I thought it was the other way around...?

it might be a good movie about skateboarding....why try and burn it down so fast. Atleast it's coming from someone who actually knows about skateboarding.

The blurb says it is going to be "every skateboarders story," or some shit like that. You can't make a movie that does that. There's too much variety in our culture. So therefore, it will suck by trying. I always thought if somebody were to make a good movie about skateboarding the key to it would be that it didn't try to pretend like it was presenting all of skateboarding in one neat little package for consumption, but rather, it should be a good story that involves skateboarding. Also, since apparently he's trying to go pro, the plot is basically the same as grind. You think at the end he'll learn that skateboarding is all about having fun. But whatever, thats why I'm cynical, it might be good. Of course that greedy, boring little fuck Sheckler is in it. He's always involved in the lamest shit. Also, he's 17 now, can they stop calling him a phenomenon? 17 is when a lot of kids get picked up

I don't know why i'm pointing this out, as it should be obvious, but the best skateboarding movie ever made is The Skateboard Kid (http://www.amazon.com/Skateboard-Kid-Larry-Swerdlove/dp/B00006HAXB/sr=8-1/qid=1159386703/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-2030932-4112014?ie=UTF8&s=dvd), which was immortalized in this review by "dirty pete":

I know what it's like to have a flying skateboard, and even though it's a great movie, it's very unrealistic. Me and all my friends have magical flying skateboards and I'll tell you what - this movie is wrong. All magical flying skateboards are tough and don't talk like that Don what-ever his name was dude. Magical flying skateboards rarely talk at all, and if they do, they have tough voices, like Boba Fett's or a wrestler. Watch this movie for fun and laughs, but don't take it seriously.

Dude you act like this movie has the slightest potential to be decent. No way in hell dude... And skating as we know it won't be screwed just becuase this movie is going to suck, actually skating is going to be the exact same thing it always was except with one more crappy movie trying to cash in off of it. Rob Dyrdek doesn't give a fuck about skating that dude got rich and quit caring.

Dyrdek's new ad (half-cab k-grind back 180 out) is pretty dope. I liked his "Day in the Life" in 411 where he has that gnarly custom SUV with the round & square flatbars mounted in the undercarraige, the generator sealed in an airtight box in the back, and the handy slot for the boltcutters--never mind the arsenal of fully automatic weaponry stashed beneath his bed.

Most hilarious "Day in the Life" ever and he actually skates his ass off too.

All well and good, but for the amount of crap he's got in the boot and hours spent filming facilitated by all that, you'd think he'd put out more photos and video footage.  I haven't seen any editorial photos of him in ages.  Shame, as he's one of those "character" skaters who's also super good.
