Not a good look, for sure.
-
old people are racist. sadly, many young too.
-
oh shocker...
-
Skrewdrivers first album is pretty good OI punk without the racist stuff. Still a sketch shirt choice.
-

One of the two songs in the "Two Song Video" was screwdriver.
-
He's hanging with Lance Mountain who is pretty right wing himself on some things
-
Such as?
-
my neighbor listens to these guys in his garage full of nascar and other assorted bs, it bumms me out, rasicism is regular.
-
Religion. He's not a 'God is love', more 'you are scum, God will torture you in hell if you don't praise him everyday' kinda guy.
Poor fella, probably just got a bit brainwashed at a funny church
-
I knew he was mega religious, but never got that self-righteous vibe off him. That sucks if he's like that.

In defense of Grosso, Skrewdriver started out as a non-racist oi band recorded a ep and then lp both of which are good punk oi stuff, then the band broke up and the singer took the name and restarted the band as a right wing racist hate group. The t shirt that Grosso is wearing is the original band and not the later racist one. Granted as much as I love the 1st album (the song from Anti Hero two song is from the 1st lp) I wouldn't wear the t shirt just because of the baggage with the later band, but I also wouldn't call some one a racist for wearing it either.
-
Pretty sure that shirt is from their non racist era. It was the singer who became a racist and kept using the Skrewdriver name later on without the others in the band.
edit: Just noticed the above post. Oh well.

Good minds think a like

But guys, maybe he just really likes their old punk records ::).
Fuck that he's a racist.
-
WATCH OUT CHRIS PFANNER!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe that is why he quit the Label, because it is owned by a Mexican....wait maybe he doesn't know about Tommy G yet....
-
Jeff Grosso is not racist. That print on his shirt is from their first record (all skrewed up) which is not a racist record at all, infact it's a fucking amazing punk record. Sure after that Skrewdriver turned into some gnarly racist and horrible band but I'll stand by Grosso that first record is too good to ignore. "The record contains none of the neo-Nazi/white power-themed lyrics for which the band later became known. Donaldson was the only member of the record's line-up to play on future Skrewdriver releases." - quoted from online
-
Antisocial was a good fucking song.
-
what is this site turning into tmz now? who gives a shit? like everyone said there was a non skinhead skrewdriver at some point and even if there wasnt - what difference does it make to you? its not like hes out being overtly rascist towards anyone. he rides for antihero not plan b, grow up.
-
its a t-shirt.
and seriously stop doing crailslides
-
Their first racist album Boots and Bracers is really good too if you can get over the skinhead shit. Anyone ever heard of Jewdriver? They're inactive now, but they used to cover Skrewdriver songs but change all of the lyrics to be about bagels and stuff.
-
Grosso is not racist
Lance is not rightwing
Period
be careful when throwing around names and terms
*edit
or when jumping to conclusions
-
so if i get it right (get it "right", just like grosso? get it?), the general consensus is that he is wearing a t-shirt and that the old skrewdriver album was good. great thread.
also, i could see lance mountain being overly religious, with that monobrow and all.
-
Antihero has used Skrewdriver in there videos. Emo kids of today are way to quick to jump the gun before knowing about the subject they are ranting about.
Read up before you start posting bs about people you don't even know.

Saw them once. They threw bagels at the crowd. It was awesome.
-
I know Grosso ain't racist, i was joking. Although I think its funny how some people are all like "Antihero used their songs", like that makes skrewdriver ok.
-
Well, if you're done with that, I'd like to get to the point.
Proper invents are fucking dope.
Thank you. Screwdriver shirt aside, that was a really good episode. I wish he would have gone into a little more detail on how all those inverts differed (as opposed to just the name). Invert variations are one of those tricks, where I know the name (Phillips 66 for example) but don't really know exactly what it means.
-
I'm aware that Skrewdriver had that first good non-racist album and I didn't say Grosso was racist. But as Shawn said, there's a lot of baggage with wearing that tee and it comes off as pretty disrespectful. I've always loved Grosso and I'm happy to see him getting the recent coverage and switch to Anti-Hero, but I got all excited to watch a video about inverts, saw that tee, and got bummed.
-

i was really bummed to see him wearing that shirt. its still promoting a band that later became synonymous with racism, and that sucks. the whole "but the first album is good" argument is bullshit. Skrewdriver is most known for being nazi skin. period. if you wear the shirt, you are supporting that.
-

Totally agree and the same thing goes with wearing Burzum shirt. In both cases you should not be surprise if someone calls you out for being a racist or support racists, despite what your personal ideology might be.
Do i think Grosso is a racist? no. Do i still really like the guy and his skating? yes. Do I think it's kind of stupid and asking for trouble to wear a screwdriver shirt? absolutely.
-
'Stagoo Loves you'......
-
I'm surprised someone at Vans (VFC) didn't see him wearing that t-shirt and vetoed it. Regardless of whether it was from a non-racist era, doesn't look good.
-
I knew he was mega religious, but never got that self-righteous vibe off him. That sucks if he's like that.
Who cares what others believe. Fuck um.
-
I don't get this, maybe I'm naive but you're all going on about a fucking band t-shirt, calling out Grosso for being a racist etc etc but no one bats an eyelid when anyone on this forum calls somone a Nigga. That's just dumb. I'm not defending his choice of attire but wearing a t-shirt with a 70's punk band on it isn't quite the same as being all dressed up in a KKK outfit and calling people Niggas.
-

Well then you are probably really young, you see there was a time when wearing a T Shirt was making a statement especially band Shirts.
Like if you were wearing a Yout of Today shirt at CBGBs while smoking a cigarette, you were asking fro trouble.

Can you not wear a band t-shirt for the sole reason that you like their ditties? I think you might be reading too much into this but hey, if it made you feel bummed then thats a shame but you're entitled to that opinion.

Sure, it's just a shirt. So is this one.

But it's cool if you write "1931" on it with a magic marker. His economic policies were pretty solid then, before all that holocaust stuff.

Ok, lets get down to some facts and some opinion. (people are going to hate me for this, but whatever)
1. If you go to prison, and you're white, you link up with the 'BROTHERHOOD', as in aryan. - FACT
2. I don't know if you guys are familiar with this, but Anti Hero dudes are know to 'not give a fuck' aka say stupid racist shit for giggles(not all mind you). If you're in or around SF, you would know this. - FACT
3. You grow up in So-Cal, and you're white, it's not about being tolerant to other races around you. - (opinion)
I personally like the first album that Agnostic Front put out 'Victim in Pain' This band became know for it's high skinhead turnout at concerts, but the band vehemently denied any affiliation with the racist portion of that movement. Nor did they make racist lyrics(though maybe their later albums pandered to that crowd). Listening to and wearing a shirt of a band that is overtly racist is making a statement. Maybe it's that 'I don't give a fuck' punk attitude? I'm 100% sure that grosso knows what wearing that shirt means, and he just doesn't 'give a fuck' what any of us thinks. Politics is a very important issue for me, and I for one cannot support anything related to that. Same with Jason Jesse. I used to be so hyped on him till I saw that documentary. Him and his homies are just simple ol' racist white dudes that , 'don't give a fuck'. Grosso can wear what he wants, but it's also my right to not like it and not support dudes like that.
Peace

Jeff Grosso has a Crass tattoo, and a job. Contradiction?
-
Late Skrewdriver is an easy push button. Grosso pushed it and y'all are outraged.
But what about Clapton, David Bowie, Morrissey, Jedi Mind Tricks or rampant homophobia in dancehall?
You judge Burzum by Varg's later prison odinist-norge-racism, but would you wear a t-shirt depicting a young James Brown? Ridiculous myth-based anti-immigrant Racism is worse than repeated actual violence against women?
I love early Stones but don't want to see Mick and Keith in concert in 2011. Under My Thumb may have hateful lyrics if you take them seriously, but it's a better song than anyone reading this will ever write; and how do you square it up against Jagger's probable bisexuality?
VU was great on record in '66-70, but Lou Reed is a total jerk at the dinner table in 2011. Neil loves Reagan and biodiesel. Dylan was a born again for a while, Hetfield is stuck in late-90s Orange County rockabilly car culture and the Five Percent Nation is total bullshit.
I have a feeling you guys have never (attempted to) have a conversation with a musician.

With all due respect to his seniority and tweaked inverts, I don't get it. This dude was already audi when I started skating in '91, and he's coming back for coverage now? Of course he planned to wear that attention-grabbing shirt for his big interview. And now there's a thread here, so obviously the strategy was a success.
-
even Ian Mackaye admitted to liking that first Skrewdriver album. It's good. Once they went down the white pride route, they bit the dick.
point being, get over it.

Did you even watch the entire documentary? Yes in his younger years Jason Jesse into that racist shit. Grosso even said it himself. He (JJ) thought it was funny. Then he got served by a black skater. Then Grosso said the whole racist thing petered out after that. Jason Jesse aint a racist anymore. If he was I doubt he'd be joining that Mexican car club the Dukes.

this thread would have way more pages if grosso had appeared in cuffed up chinos and a slim fit button up.

Nah sorry you got me wrong, it is especially in the Hardcore , Punk and Metal Scenes that you usually are associated with the the values of the bands whose shirt you are wearing, that's why everybody is a little touchy on those subjects, especially europeans...
Dinosour jr. never had a really open political agenda so their shirts mean nothin exept " i like this band" now if you wear a screwdiver shirt, naturally there will be questions ( even though Grosso is not a Racist)

In the documentary, he didn't say he wasn't racist anymore, just stopped wearing the nazi gear. Just because he hangs with Mexican dudes doesn't mean he's instantly tolerant towards every group of people. He has a deep seeded hatred within him that I doubt went away. What corn-fed fantasy world are you from where people can do complete 180's(besides on a skateboard) as far as their deep rooted beliefs?
It's not like Grosso did a Hosoi while in prison. It's not a big deal either way to me, just doesn't get me pumped to see any of his footage. I'd rather see dudes like Snuggle Bandit get back down with Anti.

One of the best things about the Slap messageboard to me is reading peoples extremely warped take on things they have read and watched. It also shows the little bubble most of you live in.
None of you know anything about Grosso or Jessee.
In the prison system white and mexicans both are against blacks. Nazi Lowriders are an aryan/mexican subsect of the AB.
Skrewdriver's first album is great. Also a fun fact, there is only one remaining member from the first albums line up that went on to carry the name and make WP based music.
If the shirt someone is wearing gets you that worked up, get a life, there are REAL issues in this world.

I've been in various punk bands and I'm aware of some of the ignorant shit people can push. I agree that there's a hierarchy that doesn't really make sense, but I think anybody with some kind of power/attention needs to get called out on their bullshit, racist, sexist, whatever. I never said I'm not still a fan of Grosso. I just think it sucks that he's wearing that shirt.
there are REAL issues in this world.
Perpetuation of racist tendencies is one of them.
I didn't think the thread would get this long. I've said all I need to and I'm done after this.

you know, for me the thing is, even if something was awesome some time ago, i would never wear or rep something that is lame/WP/Mike Vallely nowadays. best example for me would be PlanB, i mean, before they started the new thing i wouldnt have thought one second before wearing a shirt or something from them, nowadays.... you get the idea. thats the same for me with many things (bands, brands, schmands)

I'm always surprised how liberally "faggot" gets thrown around on the slap boards. Why is Grosso wearing an 'All Skrewed Up' shirt such an issue?

hating gays and muslims is still socially acceptable to many... at least there is some progress.

Hey guys - it is 1990. I'm in the suburbs pissed off about Skrewdriver t-shirts and apartheid, even though I've never seen a nazi skin or a South African. And what is a "muslim?"

The amount of stupid in your post is so incredible that if I had to explain it, it would be pages long. Let's just put it this way: your pathetic attempt to sound smart makes you sound really really stupid. Do you really think that racism is an issue that only relates to apartheid and is now over? I hope not. Your attempt to sound intellectual makes you look like a complete idiot.

I think you maybe quoted the wrong person because you seem to be arguing against stuff I didn't say. OH right - that is you typical MO.
I will say that stressing out about Skrewdriver is decades out of date. It's like a weird retro-pose or something. Maybe that's Grosso's point: 45yo vert dudes getting heated over 80s stuff.

You seem confused, let me explain: Skrewdriver still is a huge band with nazi skinhead types. Even if the band has broken up, wearing skrewdriver shirt is still throwing out a sign, that's why most normal record stores don't carry that shit at all, even if its not 1990 and apartheid is over.
I really have no idea what you are trying to prove at this point, but it sounds like you are some pathetic kid who idolizes Grosso, thinks he can do no wrong, and provides rationalizations that he has never given (in bold in case you deny it).

One of the two songs in the "Two Song Video" was screwdriver.
so according to a lot of the train of thought im seeing here, one could equate anti hero being pro nazi for using a Skrewdriver song? wheres all the baggage for using that track years ago... wait... there is NONE. know why? cause its music... from the bands best era. chances are Julian Stranger likes ol' skrewdriver does that make him a shit and a racist? probably not.
in short its a fucking shirt. if you use clothes to define your statements to the world and yourself as a person.... you should consider taking medicine. I'm not defending nazism, etc. But acting like a SHARP or telling one what is ok and what isn't... really isn't anyone's place. Now if the dude had SS bolts and a plethora of white power tats and wears them with pride (added with spewing white pride rhetoric many times over ) then you have another issue. I don't see how this dude being interviewed over handplants equates to him being pro-racist,etc. Besides hes possibly following the punk ethos and just pissing a lot of people off by simply not giving a fuck. Thats what I took away from it (regarding the shirt), but the main thing I took away from the clip as a whole. was the dudes love for hand plants.

If you're wearing a Skrewdriver shirt you are sending a message, deliberately or not.

reviving this thread to make a point that I'm surprised wasn't brought up: How many of you ride Indy's and/or own an Indy t-shirt? The iron cross was a Nazi war medal, but no-one's getting butthurt over that. If he intended the shirt to be a racist statement, well, then that's really shitty but oh well. More likely, however, he just really liked "all skrewed up" and figured since the band is broken up and Ian Stuart is dead it didn't really matter anymore.
-
In the indy built to grind book it was mentioned that the cross was actually derived from the one the pope wears.

Racism sucks, judge one by his character, not by the color of his skin.

ah, I wasn't aware. i figured they hadn't based their brand image off of a nazi award but i still think it's a fair comparison given the subject of the thread.

didn't you post a bunch of skin head music on your last account austin? god i fucking hate you.
