Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Charles Burns, Frank Miller, The Hernandez Brothers, Peter Bagge, Daniel Clowes, Brian Azzarello, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, etc.

some of my faves:

Watchmen
Black Hole
Eightball (The Death Ray)
Preacher
Sandman
The Dark Knight Returns
Love & Rockets
Kingdom Come
HATE! (The Buddy Bradley series)
Transmetropolitan
100 Bullets
V For Vendetta

i'd recommend Kingdom Come to you, Camocan (since you're into Batman and Superhero stuff.) it's really great

I love 30 Days of Night and Walking Dead.

Frank Miller's Ronin. Big influence on that cartoon Samurai Jack.

I'm not a fan of superhero comics for the most part. they really have to be something special to grab my attention. I liked some old school dave mckean batman. just look at the  fucking joker in arkham asylum!

I also like some old daredevil comics. i remember the art being insane and the stories being pretty full on. johhny the homicidal maniac is freaking hysterical in the most violent way possible. the comic squee made by the same guy is also good

recently i stumbled across a fun little comic called Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark: They got mixed up! It was so ludicrous I had to buy it best two bucks i ever spent.

Read kingdom come honsetly its the only thing mark waid has ever done that I thought was amazing. And Alex Ross's art is so boss. Seriously an amazing book. Currently I've been reading all star superman, so far its the only superman I like. He's just a humble farmer who got lucky with powers and wants to do good instead of some extremly posed untoachable greek god he's usually made out to be.

No its great like right off the bat he's dying and they explain the science behind it and he dies like dosent come back dies. He's no longer invunreble they show his weak but still heroic attributes like he loses his powers and lex has superpowers and he has to fight lex only using his wits and a gun. Superman sacrifices himself to save everyone in the end its the best Grant Morrison ever told and he even talks about the psuedo science of what happens after we die and what will happen to superman.

If you like Arkham Asylum look into other Grant Morrison stuff. Batman Inc, The Inivsibles, and All-Star Superman are some of his best IMO.

Just finished this. Swamp Thing #21

This is how you fucking do a reboot. So artfully executed and written, holy shit. Alan Moore technically began writing on issue #20 which I have but decided not to read because 21 is when he really sinks his claws in and fully reboots the series to his liking.

Getting kind of burnt out on Hellblazer, been pretty much reading the whole thing sequentially (including that cool annual), I just finished issue 34. Nothing agains Delano but I'm kind of ready for that Ennis run now. Gonna read something else for awhile

Been reading with Simple Comic on the Mac, that's such a nice little app.

I'm catching up on all of the sandman comics.  Can't believe I didn't read any of it before, but I'm loving it.  Also, Black Orchid just for good measure.  The only comics I own anymore is Chester Brown's stuff like Ed the Happy Clown.

Watchman is my favorite so far. The Walking Dead comics are a million times better then the show.  I just ordered Saga from a local comic shop, heard it is amazing and can't wait to read it. I will be tracking down those Gunslinger comics, by far my favorite Stephen King book. Also the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics are really good.
When I was a kid I loved Sargent Rock, I need to go download those and get nostalgic.

I recently finshed "Jimmy Corrigan, the smartest kid on earth" by Chris Ware. It's about a socially inept and emotionally crippled 36 year old who mets his father for the first time. Really anxious and dark/unsettling atmosphere's laid out in this book.

CATHERINE RAGE IS AWESOME, HERE SHE IS :

oh right! and a list of anime/manga for you to look into. ;)
Two things: 1) this is a long "short" list of anime and manga. sorry for that XD and 2)I tend to like alot of girly anime/manga. and bizarre ones too. Alot of them are of the Shojo(girl)/Maho Shojo( magical girl)/romance type stuff. Which is weird cus I am not really into that for the most part in any other medium. lol
I do have some Shonen(boy manga i.e. more action less emotional shit) stuff too in this list. but it is mostly shojo. heh. ^_^;
Shonen-ai means boys love and is "gay" manga (i put quotation marks on it because it's really more like female targeted manga of what they *think* is how gay relationships are like or wish they were. lol no real sex scenes just alot of heavy fore play. the same is for the term Yaoi but with hardcore sex scenes. I know its confusing. lol )
Shojo-ai-girls love (lesbian love without heavy sex scenes.) Yuri(lesbian romance with hardcore sex scenes.)
If you're not into that that is cool. it's not for everyone. I just put in on the list because it's what I've read/seen and liked some of it. lol
CrunchyRoll.com is a good website to watch anime for free, legally. :) alot of anime are on there, but some I am listing are not. Funimation has alot to offer for anime as well on their website, you tube can work in a pinch. I am currently watching:
Attack On Titan- on crunchy roll
Sword Art Online-on crunchy roll
Legend of the Legendary Heroes-maybe on crunchy roll I watch this one on Netflix. May also wanna try Funimation's website. they stream anime for free.
older anime that is still worth watching if you are intersted..
Serial Experiments Lain-
Revolutionary Girl Utena-magical girl/ shojo/lesbian love
Ouran Host Club-shojo/shonen-ai lite anime
Fruits Basket-shojo with a touch of darkness.
Claymore -shonen. gothic. fantasy.
Evagalion Neon Genesis- classic, shonen/mechs/ trippy psychology
School Rumble-its everything but mainly comedy making fun of anime as a whole.
Soul Eater- gothic action shonen.
Magica Madoka- magical girl with a dark twist.
last but not least Sailor Moon-my first love in anime/manga. mad respect for this series. thus it's not for everyone. lol Cheesy cheesy but a classic.
Manga
You can read manga for free on various sites so this is an easier list to follow up on lol
MPD Psycho -crazy awesome art, really bizzar murder story. 'Nuff said.
Gravitation-boys love (Shonen-ai) gay manga. super cute, interesting and a great series in general.
Absolute boyfriend-love story by Yuu Watase from Fushigi Yugi fame.
Nana-punk rock in manga form. seriously.
K-On!-cute shojo/rock based manga
Akira-classic cyberpunk-dom
Girlfriends- shojo-ai/yuri young girl lesbian manga.
Soul Eater-Neo Gothic action
Fushigi Yugi- action/shojo manga. classic
Mermaid scar-horror/shonen by creator of Ramnma 1/2 and Inuyasha fame, Rumiko Takahashi.
Fruits Basket- shojo
D Grey man-action goth enough said.
Magic knight rayearth- action magical girl series done by famous CLAMP manga group.
Parasyte bizzare take on alien horror but a good one.
Death Note- a now classic with demons and being able to kill people with a magical note book and its social implications.
Deva Zan- not really a manga but it is beautiful. Yoshitaka Amano's first "manga" he was the artist for the Vampire Hunter D covers and the first 7 Final Fantasy cover artist. one of my fav artists.
Angel Sanctuary- if you have issues with bizzar incest that's not actually incest,oh ya, and killing angels and God, then this one is NOT for you. lol
Vampire Knight- decent manga, horrible anime. and yes, there are actually vampires in this manga that don't sparkle.
God Child-by the same author of Angel Sanctuary. Good mystery Victorian era setting manga.
Sailor Moon- just fyi, the current re relase English versions of this manga kinda suck... but I put them on here anyways for "classic manga" reasons. lol
well i think this is long enough for now. hahah again, sorry its so long and filled with some bizzare shit. haha Hopefully you'll find some of it amusing. lol
hope to hear from you soon!
hear from ya later!

i just found out some underground brazilian comix from the 50s and 60 by carlos zefiro.they were sold by smugglers  under a very repressive society. they include a wide variety of sexual tastes .some funny some shocking even for my standarts today some with moral endings.  the author made 2 or 3 a week and remained anonymous till a few days before his death in the 90s. they sold dozens of thousands but went out of style in the 70s with the swedish porn invasion nowadays they are very hard to find. there s a beautiful aesthetics to them wich reminds me of  raymond pettybon in a way. i hope you like them.scroll down and start from the bottom  you will find the covers with drawings click on it if you are into some tihuana bible stuff, there are a bunch of full issues !

 Midnight Ramblings

Copy This! #2

D. Blake Wert s Copy This! #2 has arrived in most mailboxes by now. It also was passed out at both Space and Linework NW on April 12. It?s the Andy Nukes issue, and it s a honey. Blake kicks things off with a short recap of response to CT!?s debut (overwhelmingly positive) and a request for info and news about your mini comix and zines. There s a special emphasis on handmade 4.25? x 5.5? material (the same size as CT!), but digests and other handmade formats also receive coverage.

Steve (Morty the Dog) Willis returns with thoughts on the creative itch and explains why the Morty blog and OlyBlog have been fallen off the grid. The three-page article is lightened by Bob Vojtko s gag cartoon. Next up is an interview with the amazing Andy Nukes, generously sprinkled with art and covers from his many zines and mini comix. Hat s off to Andy for his enthusiastic contribution to this venture.

Blake updates readers on work from nearly two dozen indie cartoonists including:

from former spider man artist and spawn creator Todd McFarlane fb page

I GOT REJECTED 350 TIMES! AND I HAVE THE LETTERS TO PROVE IT!!! Here's how I used them for motivation...not depression.

I am posting 3 photos today. The first is a small sampling of some of the rejection letters I would receive from the various companies and people/editors. As you can see there is a range of different companies I sent them to, so nearly all of the corporations printing comics, I would send samples to.

What I would do is draw some pages of different comic characters (about 6 to 18 in each batch). Then I would make about 20 copies of those pages and send them to twenty editors in the business (some of the editors could be working at the same company).

In the second photo, you will see the little chart I made (in one of my college classes. I actually printed them, since there were no laptops or excel programs back then). I listed all the people I sent packages to and then kept track of any responses.

In the third photo you will be able to read one of the 'rejections'. This particular one came from the head of Marvel Comics, Jim Shooter. I was always flattered when anyone would take the time to look at what I had sent them and would then lick a stamp and send a return note. It is kind of funny that the Marvel envelopes and letterhead had Spider-Man on them, because in a few short years after getting some of these rejections I would actually be drawing the Spidey comic itself.

The positive in getting these letters from editors was that generally they had constructive criticism notes in them (I will show you some of those from time to time). So I was able to take those suggestions and apply them to my next batch of samples. I repeated that method over and over again for about three years until I final caught my break. Sometimes they would even call me on the phone! That was awesome!!!

As I've said, it took about 700 sample submissions and about 350 rejection letters before someone finally said "Enough already, Todd. We'll give you a job!" I think I wore them down with all my submissions.

And the rest, as they say, is history. Been doing comics for nearly 30 years now (having done Batman, Spawn, Hulk, etc). So don't get discouraged if you don't get what you want out of life on your very first try. Sometimes it makes you stronger mentally to have to 'earn' your way to whatever goal you set for yourself.

Deadpool kills the marvel universe. Haven't read a comic book in a long fuckin time and decided to check out the comic store in my town. I was sure i was gonna buy something Deadpool and Bada Bing.
When i was a kid every sunday my dad said we are going to church. The church was the comic book store. Galactus was the almighty. My recent epiphany brought me to this point. I just sanded down a shop graphic and replaced the baron wood with Deadpool. The illest fuckin comic book character ever.

I did some research and found that Deadpool comics are flooding everything and it is becoming diluted. Very sad. Anyone read the Brian Posehn stuff?

I saw this Lance Conklin Powell board awhile ago and thought it looked great. Turns out all the characters were from a comic book series called Love and Rockets, which I had never heard of before. I'm not heavy into comics but I like them. So I saw this board and wanted to check the series out. Then I read an interview w/ Junot Diaz where he said that Love and Rockets was a major influence on him, so that made me more intrigued. Then I bought a few comics, they're way more violent/sexual than I thought, but still well-written/drawn. I'd like to own the whole series eventually.  Same with The Maxx. Would a major board company even collaborate w/ an indie comic any more? Or has that happened and I'm unaware of it? Anyway.

Gilbert, Jaime, and Mario Hernandez kill it dude. I wish some comic collab boards would come out more often. Obviously you had Hooks Ups doing the same type of shit, but in a different fashion. Then again if someone teamed up with some rad comic artists it might expose people to said artist guess it's a business dynamic and what demographic they're hinting at. Don't know if alt/comix are a big thing for most skateboarders these days. Either way that board is awesome and keep reading Love and Rockets.

when i was in grade school this weird kid used to basically pay me in comic books and pokemon cards to be his friend. wasnt all pity though guess we did have fun playing vidya games and biking around. its through him i met my childhood best friend on his street and we both started sk8ing. other kid didnt commit and his dad was openly racist so we just had him around for his shitty flatbar until the day my friend broke his board as soon as he showed up. point is i had a limited edition copy of pirates of blackwater issue 1 back in the day. probably not worth much and lost it though. not that i even want it
