(when talking about the change in direction over at AWS)

I've found him slightly annoying ever since I saw an episode of Skatetalk in which he asked the guys if they thought he or Dylan Reider was more attractive. Also the Morrisey obsession is a little strange, but I won't go there.

I admire the hell outta O'Dell. Dude is all about skating, endless knowledge. Sure he's into other fashion type stuff, but his docu/interviewing skills are top notch, and he's been shooting sick photos forever. Some people think he's a dick but I find he has a great balance of self depreciation and sarcasm.
In a world full of people who are always serious and on point, his occasional weirdness is refreshing. He's given enough to skating, he doesn't need to bro down with every skater who recognizes him at the bar. I think dudes get bad raps for ridiculous reasons sometimes.

In the skate scene a lot of artists / film makers / musicians / writers etc. are lauded simply because they are skateboarders, in the wider world they would be regarded as having less than average talents.

I don't know where all the Pat O'Dell being gay rumors came from. If anybody ever saw his blog, you'd know he was way into teenage girls to be gay. Practically every tour he went on before was filled with shots of teenage girls in the crowd just looking skeeved. Always seemed weird but the dude is a good interviewer and it must be tough to stay sober with the crowd he runs with.

i'm not sure that anybody claimed he was a good film maker, but i think he's a good interviewer. maybe not in whatever context youre putting him in outside of skateboarding, but he manages to get new stuff or a more interesting outlook on things out of people who have been interviewed multiple times.

and as for his film making. It's always funny to see someone who kills it in one aspect of film making to get all these opportunities to work outside their skillset and rely on their name to cary the project. be it the hollywood director that directs a sfx commercial or a skate videographer that directs a music video. the work is almost always underwhelming and pedestrian. the best creative director advise I ever got, get in where you fit in.
just read the interview, Odell is alot smatter than i gave him credit for. He should be interviewing Gaddafi.

I know, and doesn't Dylan drive a Lexus? German luxury is the same as Japanese luxury, and hey there is nothing wrong with it, if you can afford it, get it, you only live once.
