ok, so after quite a few years of skateboarding i came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what wax you use. no difference between special skate wax, an old candle, a new candle or a tea light at all. the only thing that stands out and is better than anything else seems to be ledgebutta. i don't know what they put in it but it's just better than the rest.
opinions?

OFFICIAL LIST
shake junt wax = better for hardflips
ledge butter = better for yo flips
zero wax = better for handrails tricks
alien workshop wax = better obscure obstacle
santa cruz wax = better for obstacle no one has ever heard of
DGK wax = better for hood spot
girl wax = better for back tails
THESE ARE THE WAXES I HAVE USED SO FAR, LIST WILL BE UPDATED AS MY PARENTS DRIVE ME TO MORE SPOTS
-
skate mental dog shit wax = for pointless posts.
-
pica is slow. Most of us figured that out after the first few minutes of skateboarding, not years.
Then there are us old guys that just used some crappy candle or paraffin since the 80s.
By the way, I'd like to know what wax Alex Olson endorses; he is so dreamy.
-
Element wax smells nice = better for going on dates
-
Nah, there are differences. Curb cream is the best wax.
-
i remember monkey grip used to make some bomb ass smelling wax's. it smelled so bomb that i once found ants covering my bar of wax. true story.

Haha! I still got a little piece left dude! Smells wonderful

just get the "hella slick" diamond wax. doesnt crumble or break apart like ledge butta and regular candles do and from my experience using it actually is pretty good to a point where its noticably different than other wax

really...? you figured that out in a few minutes? like what... like you used approx. 25 types of wax in a few minutes and came to the point where you found out ledgebutta is the best? any wax works, but if you ever tried to break a new ledge in having nothing but a tea light you know that there are better options.

i saved all my wax last summer from hive inspections and honey extraction and melted it into a butter carton. i'd like to make a smaller mold and sell em this yr or something.

Butthole's beez wax, I back it
-
What's this about torching on wax?
-
::)I use normal paraffin bricks like posted on the last page. It's like $2 for 5 bricks
I've also used old spice in a pinch hahaha. Funny someone else has too. Does fuck all for grinding but works for sliding, for 2 minutes. Then You have old spice all over everything and smell like Terry crews.
I carry a 5lb propane torch in my truck, torching wax on new ledges helps speed up the process

Anyone remember curb candy from shortys? Worst wax ever. It was super hard which made it really hard to wax ledges and get the wax to stick on there.

Thanks man! I made the molds myself. Using RTV silicone. I have some experience with casting resin and metal, so it wasn't hard to translate it to wax molds. I made soap too!

Everyone should remember too: the best way to quiet down trucks is to shave some pure uncoloured paraffin into pivot cups and around bushings.

thats sick...like cooking up some crack without the stigma...did you make the original skull too? what are you using to color the wax? I've always wanted to sculpt something out of clay and just make a shit load of whatever i make but I've never sculpted/cast something

i just buy packs of these at the dollar store and leave them in my car. not the best, but gets the job done.
you need to leave them in a plastic bag though. ive had a few loose ones start to melt on my back seats before on hot days and it doesnt come out of upholstery.
-
I use Magic Wax which is independently owned and is made entirely out of bee's wax so it smells really good. Apparently it's not supposed to melt as quick either.
But dam that skull wax is crazy, are you selling and or giving away any?

Me too but I melt them down into a aluminum can with left over wax from other old candles to make a nice sized block of it.

You gotta look out tho cuz sometimes those cheap, scentless tealight candles can be made of this really crumbly wax that's shitty for rubbing on ledges. It'll get the job done if you have enough on hand but it breaks up super fast and is overall just a bitch to use. Just a few days ago I wasted a couple dollars on a 32 pack and it only took me two sessions (and 7 candles) til I just said fuck it and got some more wax at the shop (http://www.thecoli.com/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/snoop.png)
-
So I put the skulls on my webpage. I make them from paraffin wax, so they're basically nice candle wax.

If you're from Slap, put it in the order notes, I'll throw in a bunch of cool stuff!
Thanks for the interest guys, they're fun to make.

Havent used it myself, but the concept is great, plus it comes in the styrofoam cup so it wont melt or get all over everything

Resurrection time!
So lets talk formulas. I’m trying to make my own wax in house from bulk ingredients. Buying candles isn’t very cost effective and the parrafin I’ve using is too soft. Melts really easily in a hot car. I’m gonna try soy wax next, but I was just wondering if anyone else had tried making their own blends?

Are you shopping at the Yankee Candle Workshop or something? Have you tried the dollar store?
-
Eh it’s more that I want to be a geek about it. But if I could find candles for a buck, why not? I’ll take a look.

Rub brick, clear coat with lacquer, gulf wax

Made some new wax.
Sculpted the original from Sculpey and made a silicone mold

did you figure out a good formula as above?
I made wax mixing about a cup of melted plain candles from target and 1 tablespoon petroleum jelly
-
I melted some leftover Christmas candle pieces. Just put them into a heat proof glass bowl and place the bowl into a pot with water in it and heat up the water so the wax will melt (for the cooks, it's like a bain marie). I quite like how this panned out (pun intended).

I used to buy candles on the cheap from garage/yard sales and salvation army back in the 90s.
Recently, my mother in law gave me a box of candles that must have been from 70s or 80s so I'm good.

Go pay for “skate” wax.

Biggest candle at the dollar store. Throw the wick away. Wax curb.
-
I cannot buying "skate" wax when box of Gulf Wax - 4 1/4lbs blocks - is like $5, though I usually get them for a buck or two at the thrift store. This is in addition to the bits of wax I pick up from around the park.
