it has to do with this whole SOPA/internet censorship thing. wikipedia, google, youtube and a bunch of other sites are doing stuff like this in protest.
PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet (http://vimeo.com/31100268)
they are trying to get rid of our e-liberties. fuck em, nothing can get in the way of my free music and pr0ns!
-
the video helped synthesize everything.
being black in canada is trip but everyday i hear new shit and have to ask what kinda fuckery is going on south of the border?
-
search something up on wiki, after a few seconds it goes to the protest page
-
The SOPA/PIPA bills are a fucking joke
-
Well are they so greedy and stupid? I mean the only reason why people are not ripping up the streets is because they are lost in the internet. If you take them their internet away i am sure that we are gonna watch some nice riots.
-
Shit is fucked.
I'm not even from the US, but I'm scared, because this censorship thing really could become real. Those fuckers in government are capable on doing everything for that extra buck.
-
I've sent messages to 3 out of the 5 Florida representatives listed on wikipedia in the past 20 minutes.
I put something like "Stop SOPA' or "SOPA is Censorship" in the titles and just copied and pasted a two sentence rant of opposition for each.
Representatives won't sit and read every e-mail tooth and nail but if they get flooded by a whole bunch they will listen for the sake of their reelection.
It's imperative that our generation stands up for freedom of speech on the internet.
It is a vital resource that we must protect for many generations to come.
I'd hate to have to explain to the next generation that we were two busy playing farmville or facebooking, to write letters to let our presence be
known, and stand up to corporate censorship when we had the chance.

Meh, some form of this bill will be passed eventually. It will be watered down (as it should be), but if you think online piracy can go on forever, think again. Enjoy the Internet as the lawless domain it is while you can.

Just hit the x button to stop it from loading before the block comes on

i really hope this doesn't do harm to my daily porn sites..

poltical debates just dumbed down on the internet

why don't they use all that power to fight child porn instead ?
capitalism at it finest

Am I the only one taking this shit serious?
I'm going to dig this thread up a year from now when all the videos we post on youtube have to have original music or none at all.
We better start learning how to play the guitar now.
EDIT: please, take 1 minute to sign this, then go back to porn or whatever

signed it. Just read the bill and it is insane. And to the guy above, it would mean that Canadian sites which could be connected with copyright infringement (aka any foreign site) could/will be blocked from google ads, google searches, and use of sites such as paypal, and if they try to fight back they can come under US jurisdiction and be sued. They would also have to cover the legal fees of the plaintiff and/or loose their domain name. This shit is FUCKED but I don't see it happening in it's current form.

as a musician who has literally not made a dime off of an album i released this year, this SOPA bill is complete bullshit. it isn't hurting musicians, its hurting the middlemen who have no business profiting off of art in the first place. the business model has completely changed in the last couple of years, freeing artists from corporate bondage, and these guys are pissed that they're getting left out. art is not business. media should be free for everyone. if you like an album and want to support an artist, buy a physical copy for your personal collection. go to a show when they come through your town. if you "illegally" download it, fuckin a. at least you got to hear it. the rise of popular culture over the last 100 years has put artists on a pedestal, grossly inflating their monetary value in our society. do "artists" like lady gaga or soulja boy deserve to be set for life because of their profound contributions to our culture? i think not. even less true for a group of assholes sitting in an office somewhere taking the lions share of an artist's income for being a fucking middleman.
progress rolls on; these big media companies aren't adapting to the times so they're trying to take their toys and go home, and putting the culture of the world in peril in the process. and if you're an artist (of any kind) who only dreams of getting rich off of their talents and vision, you probably should have never tried to be an artist in the first place.

Yes taking it seriously - signed the petition and called my two reps today. But I'm still getting drunk in support of free pr0nz and sponsor-me videos set to Nicki Minaj.

are you from canada? if so, are you familiar with our wanna-be-president prime minister? if this shit passed in the US congress it would only give our PM more of a reason to try and get something similar passed under canadian law. no thank you.

my uninformed canadians you should watch some daily show sometimes not only is it hilarious to laugh at the giant mess that is the 2012 election (o lordy those republicans, what will they do next?) they also give us insight on things that wiil inevitably affect us somewhere down the road. we are the regular siamese twin of the states,
i think this picture describes our relationship:

So how big deal is this in america ? is it on the news ? protests in the streets ? how big chans does this have of passing ?

Sites shutting down for some random reason for god knows who long and just because some accusation is going to suck . many good sites will be gone

Worst thing for these PIPA/SOPA supporters is they have probably become targets of 4chan. Don't mess with the internetz.
-
nooo, no more free pr0n and other stuff
-
i dont know many details but apparently they are also trying to re-structure internet, forcing companies to use specific domains (.biz for business, .tv for streaming, etc.). they want ALL the porn sites on a .xxx domain and many ISP's are planning to block these .xxx domains. WHAT?!

Just in case anyone needs to use Wikipedia today as soon as the page shows up just press the stop loading button and it won't bring you to the page discussing the bill.

Brilliant. I'm sure if you ask any musician that makes less than 6 figures they will tell you exactly the same, unless they are captivated by the fantasy life of making it in the recording industry.
Also as far as the bill goes, I read that Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich have all stated their intentions to try to wipe out internet porn in the US if elected, and I'm sure this bill plays a critical role in making that possible, so watch out for your free pr0ns everyone! And There are a lot of different sections of the bill with severe implications. For instance, as understand it SLAP as a site would probably no longer exist the way it does because any site that holds pirated/copyrighted material is responsible for removing the content, even if is submitted by a 3RD PARTY, meaning us. So in effect, unless the SLAP admins police us and remove everything from gifs to pictures and video that are protected, they can get shut down. There is a lot more too, this affects pretty much everyone in the world.

Maybe I'd actually get some shit done if it happened...
Jk, but nice speech diabolik. I agree for the most part. Like with skating I want the people I'm fans of to be able to focus 100% on their talent and not have to work an unrelated 9-5. If only for my own satisfaction.
And doesn't denmark or something have anti piracy laws?or some kind of censorship laws?
Also would it only affect sites that are searchable? I guess all the image and video links would have to be hosted off shore or in the deep web or something?
