NYT writes about skateboarding a lot, especially considering how poorly they do it.

When we see 20-year-olds catching air or executing a kickflip we say, That's rad.

Who is 'we' in this sentence?  You're talking about me like I'm an animal, not a human being.  As if I care if you like what I'm doing.

So much longboard kookery in the comments of that article.

I am almost 41 and never quit skating, these articles give me serious second hand embarrassment. I am all for people getting back into skating, but don't fucking expect any instance respect from me!!

According to the small amount of the article that I read on msn, 42 is too old but 20 years old is awesome.  I'm 30 so i'm cool for another 12 years haha.

is it too obvious to leave this guy a comment explaining the period of time when skateboarding got popular and that the guys in their 40s still skating are some of the guys that made skateboarding what it is? not just some mid-life crisis assholes? gah nevermind

I skate into my 40's to avoid a mid-life crisis, not because of.

There are some skate dads who are super cool, and some skate dads who are straight up annoying. For some reason I always encounter the super-citizen dad that tells us to wear helmets and quit swearing. Some people should just rollerblade, and these people talked about in the articles fit in that category

I went to this guy Stan's birthday party last night.  He turned 51 and just built a pool in his backyard, and he rips it.

There's a bit of a raw elegance about getting schooled by a man twice your age.

I think a fully padded up 40-year old starting to learn to roll around the park is fucking awesome. I love their drive to try something new.
As long as they keep the streettalk on a minimum and don't act too young, it's great.

While seeing the extent of it in print is kind of annoying, I'm actually glad that the general public is so totally clueless about skateboarding.  If they realized that it is the best thing to happen to Planet Earth, more of them might try to do it.
