Try to leave your shoulders straight or even move them in the opposite direction while you're doing the first 90 degrees of a 180. Needless to say, pop and tweak the shit out of it... I'm not sure if this will help you much but just how I (try to) do them.

That cardiel pic couldnt be any doper, he's got the 90's baby wheels wearing a flaming thrasher shirt going through a ring of fire for a thrasher cover, not to mention his style hands conjure up images of saintly greek orthodox iconography... and the shifty is bolts proper

The most influential shifty for me. Line starting at :38. Made me learn them and do them almost every time I skate. The one on flat in the middle, switch. I feel like switch ollies and shifties are some of the most tasteful tricks, difficult but not flashy. Bummer it turns out that this guy is a turd.
