If you have the standard hole pattern on your trucks it should work fine.
But to be serious I know a guy who skates 139s on an 8.75, it shouldn't be a big deal for one board. You may even like it.

i ran that setup for awhile but bumped to 149s because looking down on a 8.38 with 139s felt like a hover board.
manly because you cant see your wheels. :19 is what I think riding around

A lot of people that I know skate 147s (or any 8 inch trucks) on 8.5 boards, so it's not a problem. Plus you can size back down to 8.25s no problem if you keep skating 147s.
Personally, I would recommend sizing up to 149s if you continue skating 8.38s or if you plan to size up to 8.5s, it'll be a bit more stable.

i used to skate an 8.25 with 139s and it was alright, but felt wierd, when i switched to 149 and moved up to 8.38 i felt like a man growing his first pubic erection
