Makes sense seeing as how Stacey was trying to swoop up youngsters like cab and hawk. But I'm kinda glad it never fully happened. Even though as a little kid I ate up anything the Bones Brigade did, part of the reason Holmes was my favorite skater growing up was because he wasn't on the Brigade.

i was a dumb little kid back in the 80s and didn't comprehend was christ was doing, but holy shit that dude was head n shoulders towering over his competion making them look terrible and was awarded 2nd and 3rd places (they found excuses- not enough "lip' tricks and bullshit!) christian defenitly was not white enuf to get what he deserved thru the 80s dude(either that or the judges were bumming on him for being so chinese eyed during his runs lol)

I tottaly agree with the miller comment to a degree but not to many people are gonna put 80s miller over fucking 80s early 90s christian, and miller did nothing extra curicular (aside bit of art and his street photos were sick) Christian was also a premier street skater (jus my opinion) and more grace under pressure, more barefoot hawaii with the island brahs,Kellys pool destroying with duane and rattagi,mini ramp backside ollies, less wife n kidsy than miller. jus sayin in comparison millers gig looked art-less (although his skating was not artless) At least the mags would describe millers runs, for hosoi they would nt even, they would always write, "christian as always the "showman" blasting high airs, 2nd place.

According to the wiki on Hosoi he was on Powell as an am, and then left (for Dogtown) because they wouldn't turn him pro.

C'mon. Hosoi as someone who "didn't get his due"? Please. Dude was a superstar & almost always got top 3 in contests. The reason Tony won most of them was that he was doing highly progressive technical tricks that no one else could do. The "style vs tech" thing was raging in full force back then (as always) but I don't think racism played a serious role in 80s vert skate contests.
Agreed that Hosoi's street skating gets overlooked. He was right there with Gonz and Natas ollieing trash cans at the Oceanside contest when hardly anyone was doing that... He was also the first to ollie the wall at the Brooklyn Bridge banks from what I've heard. Dude has always ripped everything.

Well one thing is for sure was that 88, 89 hosoi was booed constantly at contests and skateboarding seemeed to hate him thru that period. This fact embarrassed my grade 6 self. Because of that kind of shit in skating I completely stopped wearing skate clothes, skate t shirts or nothing i was like "yuck"

What the hell are you talking about?! This wasn't going on. Racism? Seriously? Did he get booed once at a demo in your home town? A lot of people either liked Hosio or Hawk. Some people like the super tech tricks Tony was doing, and others enjoyed Hosio's more stylish and and gnarly ones. Skateboarding is still the same way today. Some prefer tech, others prefer style, gnar, etc... Watch the video below to refresh your memory

From personal experience.....I hated Hosoi because how he dressed and just seemed like a cheese ball.....but when I saw him live you just wanted to hang out with the guy.....you could tell everyone thought the same thing....you dudes would have hated both Hawk and Hosoi..... Tom Groholski would have sold a few more boards though.....
In the world of 80s half pipes contest determined who was better....and in contests....difficulty wins over style and size....it just does....it's like Nyjah losing because of bad style....

No, evidence of Christian Hosoi being booed at contests. If it happened all the time there must be footage of it right? Nobody knows what the fuck you are talking about, and you seem to be VERY certain of your point and interested in making sure others know about it. If you are making this big claim that goes against everybody's memory here, you need to provide evidence. not just bitch like a fucking baby that people are calling the stupid shit you say stupid.
Unless you want to provide footage of Christian being booed, which would definitely be on youtube if it exists since footage of about every 80's contest is on youtube, then you need to shut the fuck up.

What I gather from this half-intelligible argument is that since Hosoi has been "booed" before then people who booed at him are racist. Correct me if there's more to the point than that.
That is regular. As a grom in the 80's Hosoi seemed like a vain, narcissistic, attention-seeking, showoff prick, wearing 5 swatches and pink scrunchies, constantly pursing his lips like he was trying to look pretty and tough at the same time. Back then dudes like Jesse Martinez, Jay Adams, and all these crusties my uncle knew would come to my house in the valley, blasting old hardcore and thrash tapes, and riding the decrepit 9' capsule in our backyard. That shaped my early impressions of skating so I thought guys like Danforth, Staab, Reategui, etc, were more like what skating was about to me. Then Dressen, Gonz, and Hensley by '88-'89 but the Hawk, McGill, Cab, Hosoi, side of it seemed less raw and grimy. It wasn't until around the Focus days that I started to like Hosoi.
Anyway, when he got booed it's because disliking Hosoi was not an uncommon sentiment at all. Even for the corny-as-fuck mid 80's Hosoi was a cheeseball. Nobody denies that, not even him. Now I appreciate Hosoi's skating in a different way but back then I'd much rather see Fred Smith do a frontside slash grind on a pool with 4' of vert than see Hosoi doing 8' judos or Hawk doing spinny varial shit that I couldn't even comprehend.
So I'll admit I was a Hosoi hater. So were the older dudes I skated with and looked up to and none of it had anything to do with his heritage or complexion, it was just because of everything else about him.
