Honestly it felt like a fan film at first, but as soon as the Falcon came on the screen with John Williams playing my inner child got extremely excited.

He did become a sith for a short time in the books but I think the movie isn't going to follow the books.

This. The above order is called the machete order. My friend told me about that and it supposedly makes the series seem more cohesive for first time watchers. Order is IV, V, II, III, VI with episode 1 being omitted, but personally I liked episode one in a strange way (I think because I was still fairly young and impressionable when it came out) so I'd suggest the "Ernst Reist order" IV, V, I, II, III, VI.
Also trailer got me pretty pumped, I'm excited

How did you guys feel about the Santa Cruz x Star Wars Collaboration and Vans x Star Wars one as well?
I thought Vans Star Wars patterns looked like some toys r us type shoes, but the Santa Cruz decks were alight, nothing to spectacular though. They got a little nuts with that plastic packaging.

Edit: just watched it again, I think the two things that threw me were the sound levels that made it hard to hear the spoken parts, and second a lot of clips seemed to show pretty much nothing happening and seemed to jump from looking aesthetically like the original trilogy to video game cut scenes.
But I guess the final movie is a year away and it might just be the stuff that happens to have already gone through post production, there must be a lot of pressure to show the fans something to build faith in the project.

I have a half brother 14 years older than me who saw iv many times in the theater. My first Star Wars memory was watching Battle for Endor on TV when it came out with him. That sealed it for me, as bad as it was I was 3 or 4 and looooved Ewoks.

I was born in 77 so I didn't see it obviously. But Empire Strikes back was the first movie I ever saw in movie theaters and as expected I was hooked at the age of 5.

Holy shit I remember that made for tv Ewoks movie! I always wondered the story behind that... I don't think I've seen it since.
My first memory is seeing Return of the Jedi in the theater.. I loved it at the time (terrible now). Watching this new trailer only makes me really want to watch the first two again. I love those two.. .after that not so much

Does anyone expect these to be good? Doesn't everyone hate George Lucas now? I know he added things to the old movies that everyone made a big fuss about, so do you really trust him to make the new movies good? Or is it just wishful thinking? Didn't everyone hate the last couple that came out?
I'm sure I'll see the movies and enjoy them for what they are, but I'm not as emotionally attached to them as a lot of super-fans are.

Kids, teenagers, the main demographic who go see this type of spectacles. To be fair, everyone wants to see it.
Define dark in this context? Did Guardians of the galaxy have dark elements? It's Star Wars, a larger than life product that's purpose in the long run is to create revenue for the company behind it. It will be fast, sleek and expensive but simmered down to a PG-13 package that's non-threatening or too divisive.

Yeah, I thought Jason Rothmeyer's one was unbelievably cool when I saw his in 411vm Issue 2. Never knew they existed until then.
And I'm pretty sure mine is an original. I did a shit load of research before buying it and spent a fair amount on it.
But you're never completely sure.

While the trailer did give me goosebumps, this is why my expectations are low. While it's been promised that there will be more miniature models and practical effects, it really isn't looking that way in these trailers. There are those goofy camera swoops that one can only do on a computer that look like shit and your brain immediately registers as fake. Avatar might have sucked, but Cameron was brilliant for using a physical "virtual" camera that helped alleviate this.
The color in this trailer veers from oversaturated to home-video flat (that Han Solo clip).
I also wish Rian Johnson (who is slated to do the next one) was directing this one as well. I feel like he could at least match the tempo of the original films.

Everyone seems to like those Star Trek reboots but what drove me nuts, especially in the 2nd, was reliance of "hey look, they're referencing one of the old movies! Isn't that awesome?" No, it's lazy. It's like one of those "Meet The Spartans" movies: "Hey, a dancing penguin! Like that movie with dancing penguins!" It's like he feels like he needs to constantly nod to the older movies instead of making his own.
The emotional beats do not feel earned because of this. And then he can't leave Spock dead for more than 5 minutes because the test audience probably found that "too sad".

Finn could be a Solo too. In the comics an African Corellian woman insists she's married to Han.
Kylo's blade up in Rey's face was sick.
Everything Daisy Ridley does is filled with emotion, I hope this trilogy focuses on her. I love her.

i believe so too. i bet it will make her take up the lightsaber and the force in general in the next one.
my predictions:
Kylo is han and leia's kid... him going over to the dark side helped split han and leia up.
Rey is lukes kid.
Finn is related to no one, and will be killed by Kylo.
the ice planet we're seeing IS the new death star. it being camouflaged as a planet, and will be fully operational by the last act and it will be destroyed.
Han Solo will also die by the end of the movie.

I do get the sense that Kylo is more of a warm-up villain though. Andy Serkis has got to show up eventually.
Supposedly those Rebels cartoons tie into the new trilogy. I've not kept up but Im pretty sure there is an Inquisitor connection somewhere.

I think I read that Mark mentioned Luke is in between the light and dark. Probably doesn't mean it, but then again I can't find where he said that.
