So, everyone's favorite director is about to "break the mold of today’s skate films" again.
‘We Are Blood’ is the new skate film from the BrainFarm skate team and director Ty Evans, due to hit cinema theatres mid-August.

If its anything like this clip its going to take 2 hours to watch a 10 min skate clip.
Ty is really trying to be the next spike jonze and move to movie film making it seems, but he just doesn't have it. Just because you can afford expensive filming equipment it doesn't mean you are a great filmer/director.

well just to clarify the video in the original post, that video is like that because its was a test to showcase that phantom flex camera which is made just for slow mo. Ty's video will no doubt have slow mo but I'm sure its not gonna be like that embedded video

Hmm, you definitely want to use a polarizing filter if shooting in bright sunlight. And at night a blue filter would probably be useful to counteract yellow artificial light.
But yeah, filters like a starburst on your lens are corny. And in post-production there are plenty of filters to apply to footage that look cheesy.

Looks like it was created for people to watch that don't skateboard. what comes to mind is like an assembly for middle school kids not to do drugs where they say "radical" a lot and show this video. Then the guy with shades and bleached hair says things that aren't cool but he thinks is cool.

one of the times in life where "if it aint broke, don't fix it" cannot be applied. nothing beats a 4:3 aspect for skateboard filming, specifically the VX1000/century lens. It would be rad if it was brought back in HD <3

I don't know if they've actually said this yet, but I know there are parts of the film that have fully scripted dialogue. There's apparently a story and everything. With that in mind, I'm expecting some cringe-inducing acting from P-Rod and other skaters. I'm sure it won't be Street Dreams bad, but I doubt it will much better. Ty tends to have trouble making things look natural and un-staged.

I just don't know...new younger generation of skaters may love this shit, and lets be honest, the film is for the general public to "understand" this idea about skate culture. Just from the words used "doesn't matter your back ground" "Hooked on it" "Passionate" "finally landed that trick" "Skateboarding brings people together" "the art" "meet people all over the world" "Brothers and family" there was way to many in that one trailer. I get it we think we are in an amazing culture and so unique... I doubt they put in there that we talk a lot of shit, style matters, not everyone skater can be a fucking artist and a lot of skaters are just idiots that can do amazing things on a board.
I know this trailer is appealing to that kid or "fan" who wants drone HD over head action shots and that feel good " Yeah we are all brothers " feeling. My idea of what i would like to see differs so much from "We are Blood" fuck it that's alright...If nothing else could be a conversation starter from that parent getting their kid a first set up "hey you see that movie?" ;)

First off the trailer isn't as bad as ya'll make it out to be, it's a bit corny but it's no different than dudes that make doctors salarys riding for vans acting like theyre super punk rock and core and not giving a fuck. The stupid fucking VX argument is so tired, the truth is that camera looks like shit when watching it on the internet, even Beagle said so, thats why all Baker shit that goes straight to the web is HD. Skateboarding is a monsterous thing now, we all lost it back in 97-98, expecting it to stay the same as it was is the same as those old timers on the NFL network calling modern football players bitches cuz they make too much money and have personal trainers and chefs. I respect some of the VX stuff out there but that dream is over, do you really expect people that are really trying to make videos to be out there banging on a 20+ year old camera to get the red ccd chip to start working again? I here kids wanting to buy VX's off of ebay just cuz theyre told thats the cool skateboarding look, yet they have no idea why they even want one or how to use to even achieve that great VX look.
This isn't a rant against the Vx, but things change, this is no different than 80s vert pros saying street skating is bullshit. Skateboarding has always had people making raw videos and epic videos, that won't change, but the technology has gotten better and regardless filmakers are gonna use it.

However, that shit looked pretty stunning at 4k resolution on a 4K monitor.

The line up is tight: Chris, Clint, Jordan, Biebel, etc. but there is going to be so much slow mo it will be painful, I only hope so dearly that after it comes out someone re-edits it without slow-mo and cuts out most of the extra random stuff and just creates a 35ish minute video of pure skating.
