Who are the favorites?  Damn there are some random fucking countries in this...Namibia, Fiji!?  What are the USA's chances or getting out of the group?

A little shook after last weekend's result against wales but still quietly confident. The nation has every faith in Saint Schmidt.

I'm kinda rooting for the states to get out their pool. I went to college with one of their players and it's always rad to see him do well.

not random at all. those countries both have a rich rugby tradition. the USA, not so much.

i'm wondering how i can watch the Welsh matches in the USA, without paying $20 to get into a shitty Irish pub at 8 in the morning to watch them.

Where do you live?  Just go to a soccer pub.  Most of them double as rugby pubs if requested and they can literally get any channel in the world, albeit sometimes pirated.

the Pumas have never beaten the AB's, ever. the Wallabies look good right now I think.
also history shows France can do it, especially when they are written off like right now....then again we could lose against Romania or whoever!

I swear being a French supporter is trying at times.

Canada plays Ireland on the 19th, we have a shockingly good Rugby team, despite not having any real local leagues. Should be a fun game. England is perfect for Rugby, temperate, egotistical with long rugby culture, should be an amazing cup!

Maradona scored with his hand in a world cup quarterfinal! and as long they refuse to use video refereeing, it'll stay that way. That's one of the reasons I have a very hard time watching football.......

I think it's probably fair to say people don't really care about that anymore. Bitter pill to swallow at the time but c'est la vie. The news that it ended with us getting a 5 mil pay out from Sepp and the boys makes it all even funnier..

I'm visiting Ireland and watched rugby for the first time yesterday. I thought the rest of the world was somehow more enlightened than the US for not watching American football. Turns out they just have their own sport for local neanderthals.

exactly. a thinking man's version you could also say.
personnaly I really don't like american football. Apart from the ball's shape, it's actually nothing like rugby.

anyways.......
I really think Australia look like favorites right now.
but who knows, maybe this will finally be France's year......I've watched my team lose 3 finals already, since I was a kid in 87. I wanna see them go all the way just once!

I'm actually super impressed by the welsh team's performance, considering their injured list!

one thing that's really bummed me out is Tuilagi getting banned 5 weeks. The citing commission's double standars are just so unfair it's not even funny.

agreed.
France was just terrible against Ireland saturday. Terrible. My dad said we havent been that bad since the 60's....

also I find it very suspicious that in this day and age, no one saw this, 20 seconds into the game.
No replay, nothing! we did not deserve to win but it could have been a very different game. anyways karma is a bitch, Ireland have lost at least 3 of their best players and I think they'll be trounced by the Pumas.

nope, totally predictable, and I said it earlier in the thread. Just as predictable as France getting pummeled by the AB's.......

Saint Andre, the French coach, has had the worst record with our team in about 40 years! Good thing he's leaving.

Anyways that cup is really enjoyable to watch, lots of drama. the Scotland-Australia game was incredible, with (again!!) a lot of controversy about Craig Joubert. He just doesnt have it to referee at the top level.

nope, it's just that I was at Wembley to see NZ-Arg and it was easy to tell the Pumas were real good, really gave the ABs a run for their money. Also they won against Ireland in the 99 WC....and they've been to the semi-final before, which Ireland never did. and finally this year they defeated the Boks on home soil.
Actually I think it's condescending that they werent pegged as favorites.

well you have to admit only 3 losses in 4 years for the AB's is a pretty tough record to beat.
I'm not sure kiwis realize NZ is the only country in the world where rugby union is the number one sport though....

anyways that final was brilliant! this cup was one of the best ever I think.

Now I can't wait to see France with the new coach. The last 4 years have been dismal for french rugby
