the team is this
Alba
Asta
Borden
Dressen
Guzman
JJessee
Knox
Shuriken
Strubing
By far the weirdest team in skateboarding. They used to release some cool vids, now nothing on the horizon... The remind me of the current Label team with no prospects aside from their stock lifers. Asta is great, and SC makes great boards but it's time to form a real squad and get things rolling like old times. The star wars stuff is weird as fuck too, it's like SC strictly markets to non skaters now..

goddamn. the amount of talent is Oz is fucked
-
a strubing, shuriken, asta 3 part video is something I'd pay $10 for
actually even just a strubing part
-
I'm wondering how they can even pay a team, with them Marvel and Star Wars Licensing deals. That shit aint cheap.
-
What happend to Travis Erickson ?? he was the best thing about Santa Cruz
-
Still surviving off there 80's glory, just like powell......they both irrelevant in modern skateboarding
Indy would fund Santa Cruz, bones would fund powell.

He's still on. Was on their most recent east coast trip that was covered in a Thrasher from a couple months back.
edit: Also, it still hasn't entirely sunk in for me yet that Tom Asta rides for them.

For real.
They also have Cody Chapman on the team and he rips.
-
They're working on a video. I'm pretty hyped on that Blake Johnson dude plus E-man, Strubing and Shuriken should be pretty tight. They have a few lesser known ams and flow kids that are pretty sick as well. Mikey Curtis comes to mind.

santa cruz makes a ton of longboards now... way to ruin your rep

You answered your own question. Licenses aren't cheap, and nobody who skates buys them, but everyone else does. Those Star Wars and Simpsons boards sold like fucking crazy. They ended up on sale racks in skate shops, but the people who bought them don't go to skate shops. I don't know about the Marvel ones, but I promise you nobody lost money there.

A Santa Cruz thread is so timely.
Hoping for a "I hate the Skull Skates 'Dead Guys' deck!" thread tomorrow.

The first 8" board I ever bought was a Santa Cruz powerply, so they will always hold a special place in my heart for that alone. The weird thing about it was that because of the kevlar top ply layer, after a couple weeks of skating it, my board looked like a sweater that was unraveling... It had come undone. That minor problem aside, that board was fucking life changing for me. Being a taller dude, I don't necessarily skate 'big' boards, I skate boards that are more or less proportional. I've filmed some tricks on 81's and I look like Rob Welsh, skating a Tech Deck or something.... But back to my point, getting that eight inch Santa Cruz in '04 actually sucked because once I skated that board till it was done, it was insanely hard to find 8's afterward at the time, like, 2004 or so. I would almost never be able to get an 8" board from a brand I liked, simply because I couldn't go into a shop and ask if they had any 8" AWS boards or whatever, I'd have to just ask about 8's in general, and more often than not I'd end up with a 7.8 Element or something. I remember buying Jon Allie's pro model, the one that looked like an Evil Dead poster (not the biggest fan of the series, to be quite honest), because a "skate shop" owner told me it was an 8" (to this day, standing on a board only helps me feel out a shape (concave, wheelbase, etc), but not actually width, for some reason. I've made the mistake of standing on eight inch boards and thinking "Yeah ok this seems right" then measuring it out and I'm way the fuck off.
Also, Sid Melvin.
But honestly, what happened to Damian Bravo?
TLDR I need to stop posting right when my add medication kicks in.

Santa Cruz is the least of skateboarding's concerns.

^that adam one is p sick
-
Santa Cruz was still going pretty strong up until like 2004. I thought Uprising was a great video and even Guarte had a few gems. Ron Whaley and Strubing have boards, thats sick. Emanuel is amazing. Dumb as hell but that doesn't take away from his skating. Is Shuriken still good? I saw him at tampa and he was kinda just clowning around. His Pig wood part was pretty fucking nutty.
-
they just made a Colabbo beer with Strike Brewing out of SJ. but its a blonde so i refuse to buy it. come to think of it. so was Girls collabo with St Archer. Come on guys a fuckin blonde?
