I found some plans online for a wooden grind box that's 8 feet long, 2 feet wide, and a foot high. Do you think 6 feet length would be enough? It would be a bit of a pain to move around if it's 8 feet but then again it might be nicer to skate.

It's just a box dude. Build it to whatever dimensions work for you.
-
I just built a 4' x 8" high x 24" wide so it would fit in my car. It's pretty short but it's portable. Once you're on there you're off. 6' would be fun, 8' you could lock on and go long but unless you have a van or pickup it's staying put.

Yeah...i thought a bench would make sense....top 6' long sits in back seat....you could frame two boxes as legs that would go in the trunk....
I ended up getting the drop spot fun box thing.....

Where exactly does the term Fun Box originate from? and does it refer to only flat boxes? please let me know i need to find out quick and now
I always thought a funbox was 2 ramps with a box in the middle. First heard the term from BMX'ers.
A box is just a box, no fun.
-
so what do you call it? it's not only a grind box/ledge because it's also a manual pad and vice versa.
-
It's obviously called a multi-purpose action sport obstacle.
-
BMXers must have taken this term and changed the meaning. if you put ramps on two sides, it's no longer a box now, is it? it's a half-pyramid or something.
-
6 feet will make manuals a bit quick but grinds will be fine. Just ollie earlier.
-
if it were me and my dad building this, he would say "why does it matter how long it is? you only ever grind the last two feet."
-
I always feel like 6' is slightly too short. 8' is where it's at.
I've always just used standard plywood which is 8'x4' and then make it like, 12" high, minimum.

I believe thrasher ads called a pyramid a 'funbox' Cause people who make ramps don't skate but did influence the nomenclature.
