Phelps has been peppering interviews with some insight as of late. Newest Thrasher makes the claim that release date/SAN Jose beef kept Jerry from getting it. And Phelps has been saying the award is a "Services Rendered" consideration

Didn't have that effect on GT and I'd put him in much the same category as DVD.

In this day and age I struggle with the idea that a single instance of greatness within a year is enough for someone to win SOTY.
The consistent delivery of content in all formats, like Daan and Evan this year, is where the bar should be.

As far as Elijah goes. He's had a lot of coverage in the mag this past year, plus his KOTR MVP/Phelpers Choice award. Phelps definitely backs the kid. He even said in an interview that he doesn't give SOTY to someone he doesn't fuck with. I wouldn't be disappointed if he gave it to Busenitz He should definitely be on that list. If I had to narrow it down to 4 people in the running it would be Daan, Elijah, Busenitz, or Kyle Walker (even though I'm not the biggest fan of him)

I feel like Phelper bitched out in 2015 and instead of sucking it up and actually picking between Ishod again or any one of the other serious contenders, he's instead gone and shot himself in the foot by creating a precedence for 'lifetime achievers'.
Now if he continues the trend and gives out awards to the likes of Jerry & Busenitz (who I think deserve it more than Ave did), then we're going to end up with new people that will become the 'due a lifetime achievement' recipients, putting in motion a never ending cycle of people getting the award years after they probably should have. We can start with Nugget, probably Luan and even 9Jah from last year alone.
Daan and Evan will end up on this years version of that list if he can't decide between the two and dishes out another 'services rendered' version of SOTY.

Maybe you should excuse yourself to the bathroom and blow your nose. It's always nice to carry a tissue or paper towel for those kinds of situations. Skateboarding this year has been awesome. I would be happy with Daan, Evan, Busenitz, but I voted for Figgy cause I was salty he didnt win a couple of years ago after Bake and Destroy. I'm surprised at the lack of Figgy hype in this thread.

I get it that its a close race this year but I think it has to be Busenitz. I get that people get bothered with SOTY being a lifetime achievement award but holy shit. Is there anyone more elusive in being the bridesmaid to this Award then him. He has just narrowly missed out just too many times and despite the hate he had a murderous year and could easily win it on those merits alone. He reps the mag even after Phelps almost killed em. Its time, to put him in the books.
