Once Canada's skate mecca, everything downtown was skate-able, all the big contests were held there. I saw this coming a mile away when Slam died There were roughly 50 people to watch the final thing.
The plaza was a milestone one of the first of it's kind, all the best skaters were there too.
RDS once had a world class indoor skatepark/ collabs with rappers and now they sponsor Cody McEntire...
To think the scene in MTL would crush Vancouver in my youth would be unthinkable...What the fuck happened?

Most things about Vancouver suck balls.
It's like everything else in Vancouver. No having fun allowed, unless its city sanctioned fun because some uppity fuck will complain, or your idea of fun is jerking off about how much you love living in Vancouver.
-
Yeah. Vancouver sucks. There's only a couple hundred rippers and parks everywhere. There's also tones of spots if you're willing to drive and fifteen at ubc. There's two great shops in the city. Now there's two indoors as well. A ramp downtown and a park in tsawwassen. I really feel bad for all of us.

Tsawwassen isn't anywhere near Vancouver but I agree with some of that.
Who is coming up big time in Van now that Hoff and Decenzo moved to Cali?
-
Other scenes are dying while some grow. Detroit is up and coming. Surprised I'm still seeing footage out of San Francisco with the rent going up
-
Seems healthy to me. Seen a sick fucking edit from Van on transworld yesterday. Plaza sessions look sick via instagram. Just because theres no street league pros doesn't mean the scenes dieing. Sucks theres not much conests and whatever happening but times have changed theres not much of that in Canada in general anymore.
-
cody mac got kicked off rds lol.
most of van city spots got knobbed but the scene is still present.
but yeah montreal has the canadian spotlight right now
-
I just want to thank Vancouver as a Bruins fan for the 2011 Stanley Cup finals. ;D

Vancouver is no joke.
But montreal has long been the best city in canada.
I wish I could go more often, instead im stuck with winterpeg and thunderbay

Exactly

pretty sure there are more people than ever skating in vancouver. there just isn't a cool pack leader type thing with some and montreal right now.
i loved the video but also thought it was kinda weird that over half the antisocial video was filmed in montreal and other places.

With the new bypass tsawwassen is 15min from south van but whatever. If you want to make it big in the US you usually have to move to the US. Who in van is ripping. Spencer Hamilton, Mikey Ray, Magnus Hanson, Mike Campbell, Dylan Fulford, Jeff who rips, Cotton, Steven Burke, Will Blakley, Ryan Witt etc. So pretty much no one. Not saying Montreal isn't awesome because it is. The cost of living being so much lower definitely helps draw poor young skaters.

Vancouver was and is amazing! You're literally bitching about living in one of the best cities in the world, you have no idea how good you have it. Yes downtown has been a bummer, but that shit started back in the early 00's. Van has a plethora of amazing spots, like someone else said you might just have to look a little harder. Vancouver is amazing, feel lucky to live there because you are!
-
As an outsider who have lived in Vancouver, the scene is no joke. The skate scene in Vancouver is probably one of the better ones I've experienced. There are tons of good skaters, there are tons of people who have an interest i filming stuff and people are in general very friendly towards each others. Antisocial and Menu are ran by people who care about skaters.
What more do you want? Good skateboards doesn't equal a good scene. A healthy community is a good scene.
And you just realized you replied to a Tracer thread :-\
-
A lot of it is just perception too....there is minimal skate media now telling you Vancouver is the best.....fewer sponsors being out here too.....
Shits a lot more global and people are skipping moving here.....
thats not to say it's a great place to live and tons of kids still move here.....this is the first year in awhile that we have some snow but otherwise it's unfortunately the most skateable climate in the country.....
PS....you forgot to mention the plaza being slated for demo....or are you saving that one?

He was skating with Moses and had a toothpick in his mouth. He and Moses collided and the toothpick went straight into Moses' eyeball and plucked it clean out. So he got kicked off.

Trust me, I love Vancouver. The scene just doesn't stack up with your Barcelonas, Copenhagens, Malmos, San Frans, LAs, and New Yorks anymore.
-
So then saying it was "a joke" was clickbait. It just had a great run in the 90's and early 2000's, although a lot of new spots have been popping up over the past few years. Montreal and Toronto have some great skating, but experience full force winters and very hot summers. That being said, sometimes the rainy season in Vancouver is 8 months long. You have no idea what the scene in each city is like unless you spend a good chunk of time living there, and your own attitude and comfort zone will determine how you interpret the skate-atmosphere of any given place.

I was up in Thunder Bay last summer and stumbled upon this backyard ramp complex that looked gnarly. built by bikers I think. Also the bowl at the park there looked pretty sick.
edit: Ive never been to Vancouver and know very little about it :-\
-
I was lucky enough to skate in both montreal and vancouver for a couple days over the summer, the skate scene seemed going well in both places, the only thing i noticed different is close to the hotel i stayed at downtown it was a pain to skate due to the amount of security. As someone from winterpeg, its always a goal to get out to vancouver or montreal to go skate a larger city.

Funny that you'd make this thread right when this is released, filmed over fall/winter while Montreal and the rest of Canada is snowed in.

this was sick. more of this.
you cant deny vancouver hit kind of a low point. i guess it happens in between generations. seems like its on it way up again. i swear i saw very minimal street footage coming out of vancouver from 2011ish-2015ish
