Title: Question and Answer thread.
Post by: Evisoon on January 31, 2017, 08:46:49 PM
I've been lurking for a while now and never saw this thread.

I guess the premise of this thread is to
1. Ask a question about a specific shoe
2. If another user has skated or owns that shoe, to answer that person's question.

Please BOLD your question so it can be easily identified by other users

Why start the thread without starting the thread?

1. Did the Kareem Duffs ever get made in a Caream color?

2. Yes the second Kirchart shoe sucked, much like the start of this thread.

Have any of you skated the Adidas Pro Model? That high version of the Superstar. I keep wondering how it would be like, and I can't see it being better or having any real ankle support. Is that the case?

how do you make one of those gifs where it looks like youre typing something into google search? you know the ones you use when people ask really dumb questions that they could just google it themselves? theres this lady i work with who is always IMing me really stupid questions that i literally answer with the first result from a google search and i need to show her how stupid she is.

ironically, ive googled the shit out of this gif and i cant find how to make one.

example of what im trying to do:

enter the search into www.lmgtfy.com (http://www.lmgtfy.com) and it'll give you a link to send her, where it brings google up and types it out for her (lmgtfy is let me google that for you)

- why won't emerica re-release ed's first pro model?
- who has skated arto's NB# shoe, is it good?
- what will I do when my silas 1's implode?
- are nb# 868s really all synth? who has skated them? I tried on a pair in 11 (usually skate 10 - 10.5) but I think 10.5 would be better sizing. How are they after they break in?

well, we were discussing what our replacement shoe for the silas 1's in the other thread right?
it's so sad when a shoe goes out of production that you really love :(
talked about this in Eric Ricks' thread but at this point my options are:
- eS Selsa (brown spotty colourway)
- nb# arto (brown)
- 868's (any colourway as long as it's not all red)
- lakai griffin weather treated (the mid version looks dope too)
- some DC evens? (this is a maybe, I'd have to try them on)
let's collaborate son!

How's the durability on es shoes nowadays? I had pair of emerica westgate cc's last summer (i try to skate mostly vegan shoes but being unemployed i really cant be that picky) and the sole blew up faster than vans woffle...

Accel slims are going to come out in that new mesh that eS is working on too no?
Sounds like a good contender for us Krooked AH (y) but yeah, I have heard there has been some quality issues (mainly from fellow SLAPpers)  with eS since they rebooted?

Well for a shoe with a toecap it was super durable but I do admit that I had to stop skating them due to getting a hole in a sole.

However they skate a dream. Perfect balance of being cushioned enough to know it's a cup but once it breaks in it has almost vulc like qualities with good flex and pretty decent boardfeel. The toe is a REALLY nice shape for kickflips too.

Oh and eS's are one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever had.

This has been driving me nuts. In 2011, the alien team when on a tour and this issue had a bunch of pics from it. There's supposedly 4 or 5 minute stroebeck edit that goes along with it.

I've seen the footage from this pool in cherry.

I know it's near pittsburgh (or was, it may have been bulldozed by now)

anywho, I've been looking around the internet for a few hours and can't find more info. Who can carry the torch a little further?

Not sure if its all Strobeck's footage but Terpening, Ave, and Omar have tricks  here  (https://youtu.be/hMyMAT5-3UE) at around 1:44,  here  (https://youtu.be/R5tb9noGVPo) at around 1:09,  here  (https://youtu.be/2HRQy0hRoH8) at around 2:54,  here  (https://youtu.be/NEomVigo8-Q) around 1:40,  and here  (https://youtu.be/EUSoPARsrAg) around 1:10. The latter are all fatback stuff, might be reused footage from each. Not exactly what you were looking for, but fun stuff to go back and watch evey once in a while.  And here's a Dylan.  (https://youtu.be/W3ffY1y9qT8) one just because

Is there a thread for the Suciu shoe?  I just got a pair in the mail, and want to know when they'll feel "more better".

Maybe a bit after break in. Honestly not a big fan of the shoe itself, mainly because of the Adiprene. I had the white/gum colorway and skated it. It's weird at first but you'll eventually get used to it. I have a pair of the all black ones too, but I don't know if I really want to skate them.

I couldn't even skate mine with the insole they came with. Made the shoe  feel almost a full size smaller.

I got a weird one....

Anyone ever skate an Element? What's the shape like?

Saw one for real cheap and thinking about sanding it down and repainting and/or pretending it's a Reese Forbes pro model

Yeah, I have.  I think it was a donny Barley.  It was green and had a little animal on it.

Edit:
Found it, this one.

Jud you have the perfect legs for long pants.

Is this better baby?

Anyway, three times today I have microwaved them for 30 seconds, walked for a few hours, and now they are starting to feel a little less stiff.

I also put in the secondary laces, laced them real loose and one hole from the top, and they feel even better now. Not so narrow/tight/snug but still secure and my foot doesn't slide around at all.  Have to get used to the lack of board feel though seeing as my last few shoes were thin vulcs.

I have a pair of size 11s barely used if you're interested. Bought them to help me with a problem with my snowboard boots but in the end ended up getting new boots altogether. Haven't used them for skating at all.

So if you still want to know, I just skated some flat and a small ledge at the bus station while waiting for the train for work and as you can see, at least for me, that hyperscreen shit on the toe is in the perfect spots for ollies.

Just in case anyone wanted to know. Picked up the Diamond All Day, went half a size down because it was the only option and it fits like a slip on. Surprisingly feels wide, my toes feel crammed but they feel good for walking. Actual midsole, not like vans with the cardboard crap. Only thing that has me worried is the tread pattern, seems shallow. Other than that so far feels good.

Have you ever ripped the eyelet stay/lace hole while lacing them up and pulling them tight?

I was at the Diamond store and they told me they had a couple returns from them ripping like that, but none while skating them since the laces are placed high up on the shoe.

Don't think the knit fabric digs too much on the grip either, from the couple of I have asked that skated them.

I remember they were like $30 or less or something when PacSun had an online sale.

Not from Finland and not very cheap, but I couldn't find them cheaper and thought they might solve the problem with my snowboard boots, which they didn't. Also the arch support felt really weird for me. I definitely don't have a flat foot. Dunno if my arch is high either, but I just couldn't get used to the insoles in the snowboard boots or even just walking around on skate shoes. I'd buy one of the flat models if your feet aren't flat.

They do feel really fragile I pulled a little hard and hear a weird noise from them. I've been running the loose or taking my time to tighten them so I don't rip the loops.
I got them during that Tilly's sale for around $30 so it won't hurt as much when they rip and i have to use the holes on the side like Skatan said. Looking forward to the heavy use they'll get when it's not raining or too cold for them. Might try running them laceless.

****Edit: They ripped last night on me without even pulling hard on them, fml lol

Here's an update on the Metric CLS.

First of all, the weather was good for a little while but the past week or two it's been  mm either snowing, raining, SUUUPER windy, or a combination.

Anyway... I've been skating only vulcs for a long time before these and as you know, vulcs usually feel the same all over the entire shoe. Meaning nice and broken in and  you can feel every inch your board as if you were skating in socks/slippers.

The Metrics though have finally  started to break in  and they tons of support/stability but the toe area is really thin so popping ollies with just your toes on the tail feels amazing. The suede, as with all Cons I've skated, grips super well and is really durable. That hyperscreen pattern or whatever the fuck it's called on the ollie area seems to be doing its job nicely. The sole is also nice and grippy and seems really durable thus far. Oh and even though the insole is basically the midsole (think Nike SB Koston 1's) and is non removable, it feels nice and cushion-y without feeling thick. I posted a picture way at the end to show the midsole/insole.

The only real complaint I have about these, other than the fact that they take a long ass time to break in (I know some people who'd actually like this though), is that the toe is a little less pointy than I prefer but it's not even that much a con. I'd say it's between pointy and round.

Here's a few pics of the shoe.

So I was up in the big smoke the other week on business and decided to do a little market research for SLAP/ myself because those Silas 1s I've got aren't getting any younger...

lakai MJs (now called the daily?) in canvas - waaaay too tight, would have to half size up from regular size
lakai griffin - might be the pick of the bunch from the shoes I tried on. pretty much bang on in sizing and felt good off the bat
NB# 868s - way too tight at my regular size and they didn't have half sizes so no...
DC Even - felt tight at tts but once I actually got my foot in there the toe box was nice and roomy which is a rare thing these days
DC Wes 2 - tried these on for shits and giggles but for a shoe with only two lace loops it felt super supportive and super comfy. I actually would have dropped my money on these if they had a non suede/ leather version.
So at this point I'm thinking either the griffins (weather treated) or the evens in all black. My name is gay imp and that was my market research for last week...

Weird, changing from vulc to cup made wonders to my feet. Haven't tried new accel's yet so I really cant tell but have you tried different insoles on them? Oh, I skated pair of Nike free's last summer, those things were like pillows on my feet with nice boardfeel... those Adidas Sucius seem to have pretty decent padding as well.

It's one of the best shapes on the market, even if you like longer or thinner boards. It's magical. Deathwish just came out with a b16 with an adjustable wheelbase for a 14 or 14.38 wheelbase if you want to try it that way too.

Any fp insole will almost certainly be better than Dr Scholls. Yes a little bit, if you're comparing them to paper thin stock insoles, but not to the extent that it would affect your skating at all unless boardfeel is everything to you, in which case you probably wouldn't be using Dr Scholls anyway.

Why would anyone put a sticker on their board when they are not sponsored and thus don't have to represent a company?

why do ppl film clips if they're not selling product? why do ppl buy pro boards if blanks are cheaper? why do ppl like heath - all he did was fall down?

Well apparently a Kid from the Park answered back rightaway. None of your comparisons make sense. It is nice too see yourself skating,  pro boards are often produced better,  have better graphics and you can 'support' someone, and heath was heath. But still,  it doesn't make sense to put a let's say supreme sticker on your board when you are not actually linked to them. Does it?

If a new board doesn't flip correctly I put a sticker on the side that requires more rotation.
i.e. kickflip under rotation, sticker goes under the board on the heel side.
I don't care what the sticker is, it is there to balance rotation forces and trim of the board in flight.

I just assumed that was what the pro guys do too.

Well now it makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up!

I intend to if it's still there on payday (23rd), hopefully it is since Politic ain't really big in the UK and it's bigger than what most people here ride.

Another lil question; bones bushings on thunder 149s? currently rocking the replacement thunder blue ones, thinking the yellow medium bones would be a good fit but do those plastic inserts negate the need to use washers?

I don't use the bottom one but, I have a personal thing with keeping the top washer so the nut doesn't sink into the top one. Even if it is a harder plastic.

I bought 3 pair when i found them for 17$ online... I still wouldn't say its worth it. I cant understand how a shoe that bad caught on. The emerica indicator is a better shoe in that style, BUT, they put like some fabric shit on the sole that makes them real slippery. I held them over a flame fore a minute and then rubbed them with some loose grip to get it off. Too much work for a cheap shoe, but they skated great and lasted longer than expected

Couldn't pay me to wear them, they felt like they were actively making me more likely to roll my ankles. First and last Huf shoe I'll ever buy.

Thank you everyone for saving me trouble. Looks like I'll have to find them for dirt cheap or I'm not getting them
