Title: Best Gear You've ever Skated.
Post by: Elderly Gentleman on February 14, 2017, 12:56:50 PM
I just saw a post about the worst gear you've ever skated.  (Tensor sucks).  I was just curious what's the best gear you've ever skated?  (I'm sure we will see Bones Reds and F4's a lot, but still, I have to ask!

I'm old, so I've got some 80's shit to add first.

Santa Cruz Street Creep board.  I had two of them and skated both until the tail and nose were completely gone (it didn't have much of a nose to begin with, but it was razored and chipped to pieces too.  Loved that deck.

H-street Sal Barbier with the Raiders knock off emblem.

I'm on my second DLX deck (Anti-hero 8.38) and I'm pretty impressed.

I may be in the minority, but I honestly prefer the feel of the Thunders over Indy's.  I prefer the turn and just the feel.  Indy's are good, don't get me wrong, I just like the Thunders a little better.

I'm sure I'm going to be all by myself on this one but I got a set of OJ Insaneathane hardlines and I love them.  Just the right amount of slide/grip.  I plan to get more when these wear out.

silverstar/illuminati decks. big and fat they made you force your tricks and look better for it.
right now i've got a control blank. they're outta canada and about the best deck i've ridden this side of the 90s.
my favorite shoes of all time were ricky o's castels w/ no laces and the elastic held the tongue on and that  was enough to keep your foot cozy.
in the 90s i liked gullwing little g's, venture featherlights then later i ran krux for a long, long time. i get slip axle no matter what, did you know that about me? my freinds think it's mental but it's real.

Adrenalin decks were the best I've ever ridden. I also had a good run with the think tag deck waaay back. Loved both these boards.

Spitfire formula 4 is the best wheels I've ever ridden

Powell Swiss bearings. Been riding then almost solely for 20 years.

The es Ronnie Creager shoe was perfection for me.

Also the Jeremy wray dukes shoe was really good.

Indy7's
They're not the best bearings but they are the best choice imo. 2 sets of 7's will last me longer than a set of Swiss and they will be cheaper too.

damn son! defs jealous that you got to ride one of them. whose pro model was it? they had one of the heaviest pro line ups :o

Adrenalin decks were the best I've ever ridden. I also had a good run with the think zoo york tag deck waaay back. Loved both these boards.
Also the Jeremy wray dukes shoe was really good.
are you me? andrenalin were sick and I loved my first zoo york tag board. the quality on those OG dukes was amazing too!
 some others:
- a hand me down American Dream Unit board: man, I loved that thing
- omni decks (from Australia) were really good back in the day (especially if you were rocking an amnesia or a TIME!!)
- indy stage 7/ 8's #nuffsaid
- physics wheels RIP Matt Reason
- OG Rowleys
- ed templeton's first emerica shoe
- 1st few runs of adio/ circa
- rowley shams: I still maintain that this is THE best shoe vans ever made
- anything magenta/ PFC
- RVCA chinos (maybe josh harmony pro model?)
- Silas 1's [/thread]

i had a few. definitely had a matt reason even though he skated goofy [i was a little ocd about that] a ricky and when they switched over just a blank silverstar w/ some cockamamie writing on it. prolly ran 4 in toto.
in that mid-late 90s era i really dug consolidated wood too but those illuminati's were special. the kastel jawns too. what's funny is i didn't realize how much i was on their tip, but looking back i wore the philly inspirations on my sleeve. like, i watched all sorts of videos and i bought a variety of decks based off shape not marketing [so i liked to believe] but my favorite deck and shoes were ricky o.

The first(?) Westgate Emerica shoe, called the Flick. Favorite shoe ever

Campus Vulcs, not the original ones but like when they had the Silas brown/green colorway, that version.

Baker boards before they started changing them all to the "O.G." shape, not sure what they were before that but they aren't the same.

Some shops around here get different shapes of boards by letter, one of them is an "S" shape and it's basically exactly what I want every time.

Formula 4
Bones swiss, Bronson is comparable I'd say
Diamond hardware, could be interchangeable with any allen hardware I guess. Just not phillips
Huf Fulton chinos, just a straight fit chino that stretches, not skinny not baggy

interesting. my local shop is in talks to have their blanks made by them and i'm like 'please do' but it's been winter so i haven't bought any.
remember chukka boots? i loved those goofy elf boots in the 90s. they were prolly too 'high top' for me these days but they were rad at the time.

Lurkville 8.3 / MOB
149 Thunder Hollow Lights (last gen, the low ones)
53mm Satori
Bones Meds
Super Reds (?)

I skated 4 of those boards in a row, after that series was over they changed the 8.3 and it was gone (apparently it was a BB/Genny press that some of the DLX dudes used as well/wasn't a regular press by DLX, only special orders or some shit), once they switched, they got all pointy and shit, wb changes, etc.., I'd skate them now if they reverted. They were just so FAT and round with the nose and tail, so comfy, perfect deck for me, my holy grail I keep trying to find, just looking at this makes me sad (had to dig it off insta which I don't use, 300 some odd weeks ago it says ;)

Do you drink? Serious question. I'd ask about weight changes, but they're subtle compared to the effects of boozing it up... the liquor goes straight to your feet.

This board is forever in my dreams. It was 8.25 x 31.25, that squared ps stix shape and had concave deep as all fuck. I remember stepping on it and instantly finding home, only to never find another one with that same shape again... And I've looked. Boy, oh-boy, I have looked.

Quasi, WKND and FA... I don't ask for much. I tell my mom I love her every now and then and I've been good at restraining from being too sinful lately. All I ask is a squared 8.25 with deeper concave, please. I could do without the short length if I have to, but please.. just once more, let me live in paradise for another deck-lifespan.

scum co. boards have the deepest concave i've rode, love it. not as square as ps stix but maybe you'd dig em.

deep dish concave

Scumco does do a square shape but I've only ever seen it in the silver spoon concave.

Thanks boys, but I've been trying to get one of those square deep dish boards and they're hard as fuck to find if you want it shipped to europe. I've even emailed them about it and they said they don't make that many since not alot of people like em, but the few that do really love them.

I skated an Iron Claw board before and it had super deep concave and a steep tail and nose, I liked it a lot.

Campus Vulcs, not the original ones but like when they had the Silas brown/green colorway, that version.

What size is your foot?

Wore 8.5-9's in those, for some reason my feet would fit/bigger or smaller some times.

Do you drink? Serious question. I'd ask about weight changes, but they're subtle compared to the effects of boozing it up... the liquor goes straight to your feet.
Not at all anymore, and I didn't really at the time either. I kind of feel like my feet for the sizing of those shoes fit right in between, or maybe depending how cold it is outside the blood flow could make them swell a little more.

F4's, Thunders, it seems like Dwindle boards have stayed stiff the longest in my personal experience

You could peel off the holograms and put it on Mob and get the best of both worlds

Haha. It doesn't come with stickers anymore which sucks because I could really use that enhanced balance!....I just like the way it grips my shoe. It can be a bitch to cut sometimes but it always holds up better when it's below freezing out in the terms of not chipping and peeling off than my homies who aren't using it.

Their vulc shoes just seem to work for me. I can't give them up.

I was the same way. I had 6 pairs of the danny garcia's. All 6 pairs were black with white sole. Goddamn that shoe ruled.

Also, Emerica Reynolds 2's. I found a pair behind a Panera Bread and learned every variation of regular/fakie heel flip in one day. Immediately lost most of them as soon as those shoes were dust.

I had a Stereo Olly Todd that I learned frontside half cab flips on that I always look back on fondly, too. I skated probably 30 Habitat boards as a teenager, bought a Stereo and was quickly learning frontside flip tricks. I guess now looking back that's what pulled me away from Habitat (though I then got into AWS...) and on that note
