You only bought Ventures? Did you not replace the actual deck, wheels, etc?

This. As discussed on slap before flip has become a walmart type of brand and they will fit perfectly next to darkstar and blind in walmart.

They could benefit pretty highly from one another.

If i had to make a guess i'd say that'd be where he ends up. Flip is a shadow of its self much the same AWS / Crail brands are now, i understand the loyalty aspect but at some point you've gotta look down at those emoji graphics and wonder what the hell is happening

I don't see this in my ShredLines feed so not sure how true it is. Would makes sense though.

I used to distro Flip until the guy in the UK told NHS to stop supplying us and only supply our local Quiksilver distro. I bet they tried that with other territories too.

Then Rowley left a couple months later.

If NHS is paying for all the guys to get to comps and do trips, royalties etc but being dictated to from UK as to who they can sell too, then yeah, I'd tell them to jump too.

Had to go back and watch some of his footage to really remember what he's like.
It's a shame he's so forgettable because he's really talented and there's a lot of great footage in here, just doesn't have that 'it' factor.

Im still just waiting to see what Rowley's plans are. I remember Berger and some people said a while back that Rowley took them all to lunch to chat about what was going down with him and flip, I just wanna know whats going on.

Maybe Rowley wants to grab up all the Street League guys and use his Street League announcer position to promote them and a new board company. He's sounded biased towards the Flip guys at previous contests. I remember him calling Louie Lopez "the guy to watch today" at last year's Barcelona contest while Lopez was in like 10th place.

It was all inevitably downhill post Really Sorry.

Obviously a company will not fold directly after their absolute zenith, but it's quite sad what some of these legendary companies end up becoming. Just a sustained mediocre entity riding the coattails of the past.

Sorry/Really Sorry era is entirely untouchable.

Sorry still is my favourite video of all time. Obviously, the current brand isn't my cup of tea anymore. Which is fine. Things change.

However, is Flip really unpopular with kids? I've always been under the impression that they're doing well financially, even though no skater older than 17 gives a shit about them.

I agree.  Judging by his instagram, it looks like he's just skating for fun now and enjoying the family life and hunting trips.

EDIT:  Also, I noticed that he sometimes posts never before seen footage of him from like the mid 2000's, which I highly appreciate.

They never sucked, but they definitely had dark times where they really had no marquee names outside of Ed (The Caswell Berry/Austin Stephens era post BA leaving). Toy Machine is probably the best example of a company able to rebuild. The one thing is, Toy Machine never really cheapened themselves in regards to graphics. Flip never really had good graphics but always had an amazing team. Now, they've lost a lot of the people skaters liked and cheapened their graphics even further. Claymation was their version of jumping the shark.

I don't think Toy Machine has ever ever sucked. Ebbs and flows, gutters and strikes, but they've never sucked.

Dont want to  bash toy, but I cant say that cj collins,  blake carpenter, or half their team are doing anything anyones interested in.  Long Beach sucks.

As for Black Label, its good that they scaled back when necessary and kept the direction on point but having auby taylor as your lead pro is not a good look.

Besides Baker and DLX,  are there any board brands that have been around 15+ years and dont suck.

In my opinion they have.
They started having generic "Toy Machine style" graphic series for some time now.
Ed himself admitted jumping the shark sort of.

OR an interview series with lost Flip riders a la Andrew Gordon, Andy Scott, Eric Brockman, Fletcher... there's gotta be more, yeah?
i used to hang out with brockman's older brother and hed tell me stories about how they took eric to the gnarliest spots and say shit like, "see this 12 stair? youre going to nollie flip, alright?" french fred even talked about how brockman was fed up with the pressure of doing crazy shit and quit after the trip to penny's in 99 (i think?). i still trip out on the fact that he was the first american to ride for flip.

Isn't that the exact reason why Bastien said he left Flip? That they'd bring him to 18 stairs and say, "Yeah you got the kickflip back lip, no problem" and really put the pressure on him to do it.
