Title: Bearing suggestions?
Post by: Mick on July 07, 2017, 12:51:41 AM
I've been skating Bones Super Reds for about 6 months now and 2 of the bearings completely shot and will not move. No water damage either. I took them completely apart, cleaned them thoroughly, and lubed them and they move even less now. I was thinking of finally leaving Bones after years of skating them when a friend recommended Bronson Bearings. I'm at a crossroad and need some help.

Im a bones guy but gave these independent bearings a shot and they were really good. i had em for a year on my regular setup then threw em onto my cruiser and alway smashed through wet streets and with all the rust they still spun fast. best bang for your buck besides bones reds/super reds

still bones bearings fo life'

They cover almost all price ranges and have really good products. No brainer.

Bronsons are fucking shit. Cages broke skating flat for a few months. Anything else is better.

I'm rocking Zealous bearings now. Cheap and good. It's some longboard brand though. They have extended inner races so you don't need spacers or washers, just like with Bones race reds. I think they're excellent.

I went for the Bones race reds I really like them, really tight and they get fast and fast. I was using the indy abec 7 before and they lasted 6 months till two of them stopped.

Do not get Bronsons. Like said above, the cages break. I've gone through 6 bearings since March.

Swiss 6 are the finest bearing I've skated.  I can't wrap my head around the idea of spending $100+ on ceramics, that's just never going to happen.  Indy Abec 7's(?) are a really great and cost effective.

Hardluck Ceramics! Second best bearings I've ever owned RIP Reflex ABS 9 Balls.

Swiss Six if you float them (and take care of them).

Super Reds treated me well too, but you are over bones soo....

Under 8 bucks. http://www.skatewarehouse.com/dailydose.html (http://www.skatewarehouse.com/dailydose.html)

I've a few setups using:

Swiss 6 (park only)
Seismic Tekton 6-Ball (cruiser)
Shieldless Andale abec 7s (fast and loud and got them for $5) just swapped these out from my Bronson G3s just to go shieldless and see how they hold up.

I miss the Autobahn $5 bearings, they were so good.

I want to try standard Bones Reds again but I am skeptical. Someone convince me.

I've had mine in one of my set ups for 3 years now. Once they rusted and seized up completely after skating home drunk in the rain and being too hungover to clean them the next day. Got to it a few days later and they were looking sorry as fuck. Figured I've got not much to lose other than time cleaning them, so I did. Got all the rust and other shit out, lubed them with some sewing machine oil and put them back on.

To my surprise, they seemed to roll even better than new. This was 2 years ago and they're still going strong. Mind you, they haven't always been on my main set up, but they've been used plenty. I'm starting to wonder if they'll ever die.  :o

Hard lucks have been good for me.
I had some decent Bronson's  and a really shitty set that lasted two weeks before the cages bent.

I think the price point alone is enough to convince anyone.....I ran the new wheels new bearings quarterly program for years....your hands never get dirty.....

I've been using standard Reds for 20ish years. They rarely break, are fast enough, and cheap. Best value for sure.

Never really got into Swiss because I always find myself skating some spot where my board is submerged in grime/dirt/water, and I just didn't want to spend a lot of money on something I was going to destroy.

I really like super reds, they're a nice balance of quality and replaceability.

Out of all the bearings I have used in the past 30 years, Bones Swiss are the only ones that stand out as being consistently faster and longer lasting.

I usually skate Bones Reds, but I am unsure if they are better than any other cheap bearing with synthetic cages and removable shields. Maybe Powell just has better quality control and other companies focus on packaging gimmicks.

Swiss 6 all time favorite. Low maintenance, longest lasting. In theory they are stronger and quicker accelerating- this better suited to the streets but whatever...
Rockin Rons- Swiss quality for half the price when you can find them. Ron says the designed for transition skating not high impact street shit but again whatever...
Indy Blacks when on a budget.

Swiss 6 then regular swiss. Anything else is a waste of money.

I'm probably the only one, but I have never had any luck with Bones bearings. I usually bust bearings pretty quick, and switch out any that dont roll when I take it out, but out of everything I've had, Bones always just crap out. Have had over 4 sets of reds, race reds and swiss(definitely not fake). None of those reds lasted me longer than 2 months, same with the race reds and half the swiss refused to spin after a month. I don't skate particularly dirty spots either. Indy blacks are usually the go to now, generally v satisfied with them.

true. Unless you spend alot of money they all break quickly. I usually get powell mini logos. They are as good or better than everything else for 50 dollars or less and they are really cheap.

I was going to meet Ron a few years back to by some bearings in person. Then I found out he was a long haired- stink bug grabbing Kurt Cobain impersonator... and decided to get some Swiss 6. Seriously though his bearings are easily as good as Swiss for $25.

Been a bones reds guy since forever but mainly because I'm a cheap bastard. They are slow out of the box and get worse quickly. I end up popping the shields off at the end of their life to extend em a bit but, in the end, you get what you pay for. Heard good things about the mid price Hard Lucks. Maybe someday I'll pony up the money and get some decent bearings. Don't be like me.

Mini logo and ATM bearings were my go to's when I was younger. I found I didn't blow them  out as fast as reds and they were cheaper.

Reds, then a drop of Eezox gun lubricant when they lock up and then you are back in business.

been enjoying my super swiss 6. Reds are the standard if you're going for value.

I actually got some swiss ceramics for free in the classifieds here but they seized up fairly quickly for as expensive as they are at retail and they weren't all that impressive. they were pretty fast but not seemingly any faster than your typical swiss or top tier bearing. not worth the money IMO if you were to buy those at full price

Huge fan of Modus stuff. I've skated Bones Swiss over 20+ years. I've tried things here and there but always go back to Bones Swiss. Anyway, I gave Modus a shot seeing their team and I was hyped on the Sylvain Tognelli edit they did awhile back. Been skating the Titaniums and Ceramics and they're great.

Regarding the mentioned Bronsons, I skated a set and the cages really did break rather fast
gave them another chance early this year and purchased a new set, same thing happened..so I'm done with them
Two years ago I tried Bones Swiss and I have to say they were not any better than Bones Reds (not even slightly)
Reds are fast, cheap and last me a good long time

I've seen single Swiss bearings around but i thought it was just a store breaking up a set and making it a thing

I have Modus Blues too, cheap and last ages. Not the fastest bearings in the world, but they last and I really hate fucking around with bearings. Seems like every expensive fancy bearings I get just blow out.

Still my favorite bearings are RocknRon's.  I've got the regular metal ones on my street setups and the ceramic in my bowl boards.  Great speed and durability.  Unlike bones bearings that have been counterfeited, there is only one source.

His prices have gone up and he doesn't make them all the time, but still totally worth it.  You have to monitor his website for when he produces more.

Whenever he makes more, you need to jump on it.
