Welcome to SLAP Rad Rat. Stop lying to the children.

Ronnie Bertino or Mike Maldonado maybe? Probably more overlooked than underrated actually.
-
Tom Krauser, Kenny Reed, Evan Schiefelbine......
-
gary smith!
-
Tom Krauser, Kenny Reed, Evan Schiefelbine......
There were 50 other Tom Krausers in every early 2000's 411 chaos section.
-
Maybe somewhat of a gray area, but it would seem to my old ass that Jeremy Wray is very underrated in this modern era. Kris Markovich, Karma Tsocheff, Jaya Bonderov, and a few others from that super progressive era too when pro careers seemed to be fairly short vs. the progression which was moving at hyper speed.

That's funny. I don't remember, did they all close their fists before they popped a trick???
-
My choices are regional and personal (maybe two people on this board will know) Richard Kirby, Fred Reeves, Stormy Pruitt and Alabama Billy Lohrig.
Also Alan Peterson and Andy Howell.

Alan Peterson, and Jaya Bonderov, Wade Speyer, and Phil Shao for sure. If they had ridden for anti-hero people would be all about them now. Drehobl, Bob, and Colin Mckay all get mentioned whenever this discussion comes up, but whatching their parts is usually a good choice.

Kyle Nicholson
Tony Cox
Sergei Trudnowski

By no means my favorite skaters, but Machnau and Momolu did some pretty next level shit on handrails that would still be considered gnarly today.

Yeah good call on Ronnie Bertino.
I dunno if he's really "underrated", cause I'm sure most people like him, but I've always felt like Joey Pepper seriously has one of the best styles, and doesn't get enough credit for it.
-
Also, going further into a gray area...I'd Mike V is underrated in the fact that he's now known as the 'old school' guy...the street plants and bonelesses..etc...but if you go back and comb his footage, he was doing a lot of modern street stuff back in the day that was ahead of it's time and still part of modern street ....
-
Jason Carney and Dan Peterka

"the old school guy" -that's not really what people say. I hear other stuff usually.

Like the "Paul Blart: Mall Cop guy"

or Hangover guy...
-
Jimmy Chung - not sure if he's underrated or whatever, but don't hear his name come up too much and his skating was and still is super inspiring. Great pop, smooth style, etc.

Bertino was sick during the first incarnation of Think! and Blind 2.0. It seemed like he kind of blew it with the weird flat bar down the grass gap. Pepper is rad, but he's been around for awhile and has a pro shoe on a very popular company. He's rated accurately.
-
Don't know if he's a legend, but Jerry Fowler. Everyone forgets that he probably invented the nose-grind pop-out that Wenning is famous for.
Now, if you want to talk about certified legends who don't get appreciated for being a dick and pissing people off? Henry Sanchez is arguably one of the most influential street skaters of all time but is often left out of discussions when people talk about Gonz, Koston, Daewon, and Reynolds. The amount of tricks he was the first to do is absolutely ridiculous. He's still a legend and held in high-regard, but can get overlooked because he was only really relevant for 10 years, and for about 8 of the years was coasting.

That was Adam McNatt with the flat bar shenanigans.
-
I second the mike ruszcyk mention. Dude had sick style.
He was ahead of his time for sure. Only Foundation decks I've had were 2 of his
-
Oyola is still underrated in my opinion.
Agree with Bertino as well
-
How does the rating system work?
-
Wes Kremer is underrated because no matter how good you think he is, he is actually better than that.

How does the rating system work?
Just start listing names. That's how all these "underrated" work, all 11000 of them.

Some of these dudes already get mad props and aren't underrated whatsoever.
Grant Brittain says Steve Claar was underrated. Dude had to have his leg amputated because of an infection from a surfing accident. That's gnar.
Or how is this judged again? Does the skater have to be really famous but not mentioned in top 20s or something?
How about Omar Hassan and Chalba? Both have been at it for 2 decades plus and can still show up at your park and rip it harder than nearly anyone.
-
Russ Howell will still show up at the local here and there and the session stops once he starts spinnin.
-
If we're going local, I'll say Philly underrated legend would have to be Chris Yourgalite. He was really fun to watch.
-
Steve morherfucking Olson, the foundation one, not the old guy whose kid owns 917.
I second Jerry Fowler, even though he didn’t actually invent nosegrind pop outs. Pretty sure that was Lotti, but am certain it was pre fowler
Also second Phil Shao...Tim Brauch too. Those dudes were already big names, but would have been fucking super stars if they were still around during the cement park renaissance.
Jeremy Wray is a skateboarding god, FUCK ELEMENT for pushing him off their team.
Gershon Mosely. Dude killed it. I’ve heard he might have a weird personality, but he still killed it on the board.
Bill Pepper for breaking Phelps nose despite knowing he’d go after him and what that could mean to his career. Stood up to the bully and didn’t give a fuck what happened to him
Edit: oh yeah- KENNY HUGHES. Style, pop and power all day

early 90's tech wizard; dude did some mad combos
Yeah good call on Ronnie Bertino.
yeah, that switch back lip is still legit
Drake Jones
really? Most people seem to rate him. From that era (and from the real camp): Joey Bast, Shawn Mandoli
Oyola is still underrated in my opinion.
who underrates him? (they should be shot)
3 pages and no mention for this.
I'm not sure if anyone has ever underrated Creager's skills on the board, the industry has defs under appreciated him tho!

Steve Olson wheels of thunder-era is magic. JWray, see my Creager comment. Gersh dropped so many switch rail hammers back in the day. Me and my crew would constantly have to remind each other of his stance.
***
Mike Santarosa - don't remember any specific parts from him but he was always killing it in 411s. His switch tres (from memory) were like butter.
Ben Liversedge tho!!! I fucking loved that guy

Based on the Round 1 thread, Chet Thomas. Not utterly unkooky apparently, but he ripped the streets in the nineties and is rarely ever mentioned now for that.
-
Chet Thomas also gets bonus points for knocking out Duane Peters.

Not underrated, and maybe not legend status yet, but I was looking up Jake Johnsons clips on skatevideosite, and he has a really fucking impressive 2016.
GX1000 video, Dime video, and the Converse One Star World Tour. That's enough footage for me to look back and think he should have gotten SOTY over Kyle.

What defines a legend in skateboarding? Some of these dudes mentioned should be happy with the fact they got their name on a board.
