So theres Pizza that totally started off with a group of friends as their team and eventually turned a few of them pro then got chase webb who was am for another established brand. Welcome did a similar thing where it was a brand started off with a group of unknowns then turned a few of them pro. With Max Allure getting off - are they gonna follow the same pattern where they'll eventually turn one of there ams pro or get someone whose already got a buzz going? Is this a new trend?
-
How do you know Max Allure is getting off?
-
Karl Watson is running it. It will be ok. Jonathan and Tafarri kill it. My friend is also getting flowed a few boards by them. I think they will do just fine.
-
WKND. Even though Raymond Molinar had been pro for awhile, technically didn't have a board until Austyn got on.
-
917, they put out a full video with no pros and Cyrus is the only pro still
-
Dugout is Killin it

Lovesick just turned one of their guys Pro. I believe he's their first and only one.
-
Status Skateboards - the sister company to DNA that was all amateurs and this was the concept behind the company. Around in the late 90s to early 2000s. Wasn’t the best idea.

Fuck you are right, it was Strubing that just got his first board with them. Welp I'm an idiot.

I think at one point World Industries only had ams. They had pros before tho.
-
acme didn't have pros for the longest. i feel like matt reason had a board for them but maybe they never did have pros?
kyle vadeboncuer was pro in our heart of hearts though. erick ricks too!

Technically in the era Chris Branugh, Randy Colvin and Jovantae were pro, Colvin seemed pretty off the map, Branagah was whatevs and Jovantae was fairly new.

Acme had Pros they just weren't doing pro models at the time, same with Powell

Shaolin Wood was a company out of Hawaii that was distributed by Dwindle that was an am only company, and this one is kinda obscure but E Special was a strange sister company to Neighborhood and i think it was set up as all the ams were on that company and the pros rode for Neighborhood

That's funny. I always thought Shaolin was out of New York, because of the Wu-Tang connection.

passport until callum paul turned pro
-
Did Zorlac start with any pros?

I thought Spencer Hamilton was on Alltimers as well, or at least getting boards.

Maybe but I haven't seen a pro board for Spencer

Termite.
Edit: Sixteen.

WKND, Passport, and 917 come to mind (unless you count Alex). Don't really pay any attention to Plan B but last time I checked their team was exclusively pros and not a single am. Weird.

Spencer was skating alltimers boards for a while it seemed but recently he's mixing it up and skating the killing floor and sour boards

Wu Tang Skateboards was kinda sick, I liked that they gave Maurice Key a pro model.

Olly Todd was pro when they started.
Why are people saying 917? Alex was releasing pro models for himself when they first started.

way after that, in the Flameboy-era. They sponsored some kids but didn't have any pros. Flameboy and Wet Willy made them more millions than any big name pro could have done.

I think Big John and Pipsco were still am when Hockey started.
-
I don't even know what pro means in 2018.

While being the owner, they always had Olson as a pro. Otherwise you could say the same about Primative which started with just Paul, with Nick Tucker and Carlos as AMs.
-

I feel they were immediately turned pro with the launch of it, but weren't pro before it started. So, its a bit of a weird one. I feel there were no Hockey boards out before they were pro, and there were turned pro in the first video they did.

Nah, for roughly the first six months to the one year mark they only had the Time magazine cover boards and some of the other weird shit Dill made.

“Elevating the amateur”
Usually starting a company without some sort of big pro is a bad idea

If you're willing to wear a red bull beanie at all times you're automatically in the semi finals at Tampa Pro.
-
Termite.....
I always thought Shaolin was am/price point through Dwindle...run by John Thomas and Hartsel....
-
Termite.
Edit: Sixteen.
wasnt the rumour you that you got kicked off when you turn 16?
-
No....I'm still on.
-
Haha, yeah something like that, it was only for kids 15 and under. I can't recall anyone of note being sponsored by Sixteen. Termite on the other hand was a breeding ground for rippers, festering with pulsating, oozing talent.

There's been a few dude's on Sixteen but off the top of my head all I could think is Spanky, Zered Basset, and Chris Troy. They sponsered a lot of up and coming SD dudes but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.
Termite did have what would end up being rad dudes... didn't know Dolan Stearns was on that one.
If I remember in a Chris Troy TWS interview he said u did get kicked off when you were 16 but if u showed promise they would try and put u on one of their other companies outta Climax at the time. Basically a stepping stone to try an get where u wanna go.
-
jimmy astleford was on 16, right? then he grew up and went to whatever the grown up side was. then i think he filmed for 411?
-
I think Willy Akers was on Sixteen, too. That guy rules! I saw him at a demo for Sixteen, Tracker Trucks & LibTech as a wee lad. He and I shared pirate jokes.
-
Did Mocha start before Mike deservedly went pro, or was he already pro by then?
-
Did Sour start with pros or were there just team boards? I imagine at least a few of them were pro for sweet, right?
-
The 80's Sk8 Company Brand X Started off with no Pro's. ACtually they had 1 Pro Ed Gein, But he was a fictional Pro.
Later on they Got Sean Goff the Euro Vert Star "EVS"
-
Small Room. They Had Frank Hirata, but he was still an am.
Small Room was sick.
