The more "core" a brand, the faster I can cum when I'm jacking off staring at the logo.
Case in point, I can't even shoot a load anymore staring at Wet Willy.

missed this article. almost every kid wanted a thinner more basic shoe design, but if emerica rips off a converse, why would they not just go buy the converse. Its nice being able to wear skate shoes out to dinner and not feel like im wearing kmart knockoff shoes.
Respect to anyone that wants to keep it core but the fight is over. Huf is sick but owned by altamont corp, emerica kicking off jerry, lakai doing tons of suspect collabs, es kicking off the whole team then starting again at 1/4 strength, vans owned by vanity fair, what else is there besides state? not saying I respect the corp brands either but if i want to wear chucks or slip ons im not gonna think twice. same ol argument yadda yadda

buisnesses arent people. They dont have moral compasses. Let any “core” brand get big enough and you will watch friends turn to enemies. I feel like rocco/world taught us this.

I usually like a brand if they make a product that I like, not if they're core or corporate.

i dont give a fuck about core brands. i dont give a fuck if a skateboarder gets my money or a guy that doesnt skate gets my money. i dont know neither of those guys and right now neither of these guys is effecting anything im doing and there could be chance that the skateboarder is a big asshole that beats his wife so i dont want to support him anyway. im going to buy a pair of nikes or converse because they look better and i like to look good(oh what a gay thing to say skateboarders dont say that wewewewewewe lets hate shawn pablo but suck fred galls dick im edgy on slap) and i want my feet to be protected the right way. at the end of the day every shoe gets glued in china under bad conditions. if i want to support a skateboarder im buying his board. i had plenty of shoes that were total shit but soled by a core brand and ive skated plenty adidas gazelles and converse chucks and they worked perfectly without being made for skateboarding. its all an illusion. spend your money on what you like and dont be so fucking annoying with "oh hes a skater" blablabla same dudes that think skateboarders are so special because they view the world in a diffrent way bullshit as if architecture or art besides skateboarding doesnt excist
you must be one of those guys who posts lots of ultra slo-mo park clips on instagram. can you tone it down a bit? my discover feed is filled with shit.

Interesting how people hate on corporate board brands and then it's the opposite when it comes to shoes?
-
It is going to come full circle. "core" brands are going to disappear and "corporate" brands will ditch skateboarding. People will skate whatever and after some time specialized skateboarding shoes are going to appear and take everything by storm.
It happened in middle ages and in 18 century.
-
Eh, does it really matter? Skateboarding is in the downturn part of the cycle. The Olympics will get a new generation of 10 year olds hyped the same way the X-Games did. There will be kooky shit from outsiders looking to make a buck for a couple years, but core brands started during this downturn will benefit. Everyone will make a lot of money. Things will get over-exposed. Core brands will take the deal-with-the-devil sweet venture capitalist payoff to keep their lifestyles up and put their heads in the sand about the coming downturn their earnings reports are showing. This generation’s core brands will become next generation’s corporate brands. People will burn out on skateboarding. Another downturn will happen. Corporate folks will pull out and move on through the next thing.
Same shit as all capitalism, but on a faster cycle. We get a depression every 20 years instead of 80.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out my last few pairs of states have been fantastic. I know it doesn't make a difference in the long run but it does feel good to not be giving my money to Nike corp.

I cringed through the whole thing. Thanks Tony Hawk and ESPN for taking things mainstream and this is what we are left with.
"If I saw a lot of people wearing them I would definitely be more interested. It says something about that shoe if I see a lot of random people wearing that shoe."
and I have a feeling things will get worse before they get better.

Lisa Simpson did it and it worked out well enough for her but the real lesson was to be yourself.

R.I.P. core shoe brands. I have boxes of free corpo skate shoes, but buy emerica to skate in. I'm not impressing anybody but myself.

most kids don't even know what a 'skate shoe' is anymore, the same way as a lot of them don't know what a video 'part' is anymore either (I seriously overhear so many use the term 'part' to describe full-lengths, montages, etc... like 'part' is some kind of cooler word for video now). it's not their direct fault... they're just constantly exposed to skateboarding in 2018, the apparence of which isn't curated by skateboarders anymore (and hasn't been since a long time ago). the kids being 'interviewed' here are a natural product of what corporations are doing to skateboarding; an activity the confused youth is driven to - and wants to trust - when in need for personal answers, only to in turn be fed with swooshes and stripes.
those of them who won't have quit skateboarding two years ahead from now will have done their research and learned by then; or at the very least, their generation is lucky enough to have convenient tools to do just that, so chances are if they're interested in skateboarding in a way that's any sincere, they will look shit up, or run into older skaters eventually, and get a better grasp.
the quote you picked is actually pretty funny because I think most everybody who was already skating at least ten to fifteen years ago (before skateboarders let the big names in) could have uttered the exact same words as that kid at some point; 'random people' would have just referred to a different crowd back then; most likely other, low-key skateboarders you'd see in weird ass rare shoes that would intrigue you. the real difference lies in that nowadays, everybody is trying to look like a skateboarder and the skateboarders themselves blend in, so we aren't 'random' anymore.

Youre being extremely cynical. People repping companies that are run by their friends or by other skaters are trying to show each other that they live and love skateboarding and probably just trying to look good doing it. If you have a problem admitting that you respect and want to be respected by other skateboarders, maybe you are insecure in your identity as a skateboarder/ not a skateboarder. Why put people down for feeling some connection to each other?
-
“Core companies are in it for money too and also use sweatshops. There’s no moral high ground.”
“We owe it to professional skateboarders to support them, so buying corporate is good for skateboarding.”
Selective moralism depending on how it suits you.

there was some definitely some pining for those Emerica Westgate runners. i myself know a handful of guys who adored that shoe. they need to keep those in the lineup as a team cupsole. it was one of the few unique offerings from a core shoe company that attracted both skaters and non-skaters.
and i agree with Twist: the conscious choice to wear the core brands among older skaters still does set an example for younger kids. and younger kids will always look up to local skaters better than them.
